Great place
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. The lake is beautiful - especially in the AM - and we had fires in the fire pit every evening. We ventured off to other areas to hike.

Great stay!
The lake is absolutely beautiful - the water is crystal clear and we heard loons every day. The house had everything we needed for our stay. They had new chairs for the campfire and the boats were all in good condition.
Our group of 8 had a wonderful time. Lots of games to play and lots of time with our teenage grandchildren.

Great getaway in the heart of the UP.
My family enjoyed a great reunion weekend at this lovely home right on Lake Chicagon. There was plenty of room for four adult couples and the house is well furnished and met all our needs. There is a beautiful view of sunrise over the lake. We enjoyed relaxing on the back deck and telling stories around an evening fire at the fire pit.The kitchen was great and a hub of activity with the adjoining family room. We enjoyed table tennis in the lower recreation room and made good use of the laundry. We had some cooler August weather and rain, but the stars were out at least 2 nights and the night sky is a sight to see, especially for city folk. The location was very convenient to some of our favorite UP State Parks and recreation areas. Its also an easy drive from Chicago.

Quiet getaway
Our family enjoyed this rental. 5 adults and 2 children were more than comfortable here. We did not have any issues with the house or what was available. We were able to cook all of our meals with the kitchen supplies. The basement was a perfect place for the kids to play and watch TV. There is a bathroom on each floor of the house which is great! We will definitely stay again.
Over all, The house was very good. The chairs for sitting around the fire pit need replaced. There was very little propane for the gas grill, good thing we brought our own. (Have been down that road before) Screws sticking out on wood on stairs to loft bedroom. The house was clean, plenty of plate ware, comfortable with fantastic views. We would definately stay there again.
The property was beautiful! We came to the area to ski and had a wonderful time. The house was spacious enough for our family of 6. We had a hard time finding the house in the dark the first night due to loss of phone reception on maps program. After that though we got the hang of it!
The cabin was beautiful with plenty of room for our group. The access to kayaks, peddelboat and paddle board was fantastic. The lake was the perfect depth for younger kids to play in. We heard and saw plenty of wildlife during our stay, which was fun! Clean house and well stocked kitchen.

Incredible Time on Chicagoun Lake
Our family of 5 had an amazing time on Chicagoun Lake. Property was beautiful and everything that was described on the listing. It is definitely a long drive off US 2, we were nervous the first time driving back that we were in the wrong spot. Took some time to get the light switches figured out but not a big deal. Cooked lots of meals on site, had everything we needed. Lake is beautiful - lots of kayaking and fishing. So hot we had to go to town and buy some floats. The surrounding area is beautiful. Small towns had some great shops and restaurants. Day trips to Marquette and the Porkies and Bond Falls! Hope to come back again!
The stay was great. We had all the amenities required to support our family during our time at Ski Brule. I would highly recommend this location. I imagine during the summer months this would be a great get away as well. The only complaint I have is that the GPS pin in the app doesn't coincide with the actual address of the cabin, so I did have to call and confirm the address, so other than that it was wonderful.

Multi-Generation Ski Trip
Beautiful home that accommodated our family of 10 perfectly. The four kids especially liked the bunk area in the lower level. Beautiful views from the many windows, warm and cozy with two gas fireplaces. Easy drive to Ski Brule. Nice areas to dine with 10 or play board games. Many board games available.

Great Location with only a couple disappointments
The location of the home was great. We enjoyed being in the middle of nowhere and the fishing from the dock was excellent. We had plenty of space to spread out and the TVs were great on the rainy days. The number of rooms were great, so no one had to share a space unless they wanted to. We also appreciated that it was close enough to the Porkies for a day trip and going to Lake Superior for a beach day. Only a couple of downsides for us, the master bedroom in the loft was lit with sunshine at 5am every morning. The large windows off the back of the house let the light some in without any way to block it out. We are early risers but that was a bit much for us and we ended up moving to a different bedroom where we had complete darkness while we slept. The other disappointment for us was the lack of beach area. The house is listed as beachfront, which to us, means sand and nice swim area (essential when you have a kid who thinks she is a mermaid). The water's edge is covered in large rocks with no easy way for us to enter the water (which is why we didn't use the watercrafts available). We also noticed a steel brush and several lures along the docks edge, meaning we didn't let our kids in even with water shoes. We ended up heading to Bond Falls State Park for a nice swim one of the days, which was not a far drive at all. While the lake was beautiful and the location was great, this felt more like a winter location than a summer retreat due to the lack of safe swimming area.

Nice Stay w/ Some Helpful Hints
Overall the house is nice, clean and offers a ton of home amenities.
It is not what I would call secluded. It’s about 5 miles down a rustic road but a neighbor is a stones throw away and the next lot is a mini campground. We were there the week before Memorial so not a lot of traffic.
They state a dock is available, it would be helpful if the months it’s available was listed as there was none for us to use.
The owner also stated there wouldn’t be room for our boat, my husband and I walked it in, seemed if there was room for 6 cars and dumpster services that a boat would fit. It did, thankfully.
The king room is actually a loft. Minimal privacy and a shower about the size of a camper shower unit. If you are person that gets up with the sun, this is the room for you! But if you would like to sleep past 5:30 am you may want to bring eye pillow with you. Shelves above the toilet would be helpful to store towels.
In our 5 day stay, 2 of them had servicemen accessing the unit.
The surround music is nice, the neighbors are comical, the house is clean, in summer months it’s probably great with lake access.

Response from VrboOwner on 1 July 2022
Hi Danielle, we're glad you enjoyed this beautiful home overall! The owners have asked us to share the following:
- We're sorry that the dock was not available for you. The ice on the lake didn't thaw until the second week of May, so we were not able to put the piers in the water until recently.
- Most visitors know that in the UP, the lakes are not usable before Memorial Day, but we are sorry that this caught you off guard.
- We had issues with guests parking over our septic tank previously and had to block off one of the spots, so it is more limited now. As our driveway is a narrow gravel road with a severe drop on one side, we do not advise towing in a boat.
- There is a large public boat launch for the lake nearby, which we suggest guests use instead.
- We advertise that the king bed is in a loft, and the listing photos show the size of the bathroom and the windows, which offer a stunning lake view. Most guests love waking up to the water views.
Thank you for your feedback. We are confident that future guests will continue to enjoy five-star stays here!
A big thank you to Jason B, Trust & Safty Advisor at Evolve for your help at check-in. It was a travel day for the property manager and there were signs tacked up on the walls around the rental unit. My suggestion to the property manager is to have all the instructions in one centralized location. When traveling it would be nice to have someone locally to contact with any problems.
Also extremely icy this time of year. One person in our party couldn't even get down the road to the property. We had to drive to the end of the road to bring them in. Thank goodness we brought ice melt to sprinkle on the steps and driveway.
Now on to what was great about this property! It was a really nice kitchen, well equipped for foodies like our group. My husband is a chef and we do all our cooking at home. Beds were comfortable & plenty of towels for our group. The children loved the downstairs area with their own TV, ping pong table, ect cetera. The dining room table was perfect for playing games at night and there were even games available to us in one of the bedroom closets.
Everything was very clean! Lots of room to spread out and comfortable sitting areas just to relax and read a book.
My family would like to come back in the summer time to enjoy the beautiful lake out front. We would definitely come back to this property again.
Pros:
- Lake and location are great; quiet, beautiful, and serene location
Cons:
- The house and amenities need some maintenance and updating. Kitchen is very outdated and missing some basic supplies, decking has several areas that need to be replaced, safety railing is loose.
- Communication with owner was terrible. We never received welcome email and there was no response to multiple inquiries. We only heard a response after we informed the owner of a water leak in the basement. To this information, the owner accused us of overflowing the toilet or bath and informed me I should have alerted them sooner (through a phone contact we were never given). Even after a contractor came and confirmed it was a leak in their plumbing system and repaired it, we did not get an apology for their accusation/unkind response.
- Layout of the house is unique. The master is loft. The kids bunk area is in basement with no railing for large portion of the stairway. I would not feel comfortable with young children using that area.
- There were almost zero amenities (no shampoo/conditioner/laundry soap). We even bought hand soap for bathrooms. Bring your own everything.
