We just returned from an amazing Ski trip with our family and friends. Cannot Wait to come back!
We were looking for a place for 13 of us to stay comfortably and definitely found it here in Salida. So appreciated the organization of the kitchen, they had everything you would want in a kitchen from a crock pot to a coffee pot. Our kids took over the basement and so enjoyed having their own space. We loved the deck views of the mountains. Could not believe how close to town was but you felt like you were out in the country. Will definitely be going back. We all went separate ways from skiing, snowmobiling, shopping, wine tasting and all got to meet back up in the house at night for games and dinner together. Parking was great to be able to back up and enjoy the garage access also. Had plenty of space for the 3 families to have our own room and not feel on top of everyone. Spoke with the owner and she was pleasant to answer any of our questions and concerns.

Wonderful home!!
What a wonderful place in Salida!!! We have traveled to this area many times but have never stayed in this rental. We will be back for sure! The home is large enough for multiple families. Everything was neat and clean and the owner is so easy to work with. If you enjoy hiking then you will enjoy the 1-2mile walk up to some hiking trails from the house. The view at sunset is amazing! The location of the house is another great feature. You are within walking distance to Walmart, the Winery, and downtown if you enjoy a 2-3mile walk. If you enjoy biking then bring it! We saw many bikers pass the house on the way to biking trails. Looked really hard though! ;0) We also took several day trips to Crested Butte, Monarach Pass, St Elmo ghost town, and Colorado Springs. All within 2hrs away. Great vacation!

Nice house, housekeeper is dishonest
See the review from March 2017 - oddly we shared the same experience with that renter with the identical bogus claims of damage, vomit, & carpet stains up to and including the broken towel rack bit. You would think someone could come up with an original ‘story’. Carla claims she has photos and doesn’t know how to access them to send them to me. If she is honest then she has a housekeeper who is not. Someone pocketed an extra $300 today. We did not leave the house in any sort of disarray or offensive condition. Everything was tidy, beds stripped and dishwasher ran. There was a lot of laundry - what would housekeeping expect in a rental that claims to sleep 14? There were two queen beds, a Murphy bed and a sofa sleeper and a couple oversized chairs, yes there’s bedding to wash and yes, people showered.
Not quite sure what is going on, we used to rent out our own property on VRBO and would never leave a mess!
Carla said she will try to send me pictures, I’m still waiting for her to forward the email evidence. I will be contacting VRBO tomorrow, having listed my own property thru them in the past I know exactly how this works and will be getting to the bottom of it.

Dear Future Renters,
Please read other renters' very positive reviews as it is obvious that I want my guests' experience at my house to be good and I would not consider retaining any portion of a renter's security deposit unless it was absolutely necessary.
The bill I will soon be paying for the rug shampooing and for the broken lamp , window blind slat and front door, which I found later, will barely cover the amount of the security deposit i retained. from this renter. (True, I did have to retain a portion of the security deposit from one other former renter, but if you read the dozens of others for whom I returned the entire security deposit it's obvious that I am not out to "bilk" anyone.)

Something's wrong here
We have rented vacation homes for about 10 years in Salida/Monarch ski resort area. Upon entering this property, it looks magnificent (except countertops are about chest high-had to use a stool to reach pans on stove-we are NOT short people) but we noticed garbage was in the bathroom garbage can. Then, we were ver shocked to find pet hair EVERYWHERE. As this is a "no pet's allowed" house it seemed strange. And very disturbing as we are allergic to pet dander. Our grandson couldn't even ski the last day we were there because of severe asthma from all the pet hair. Before we left, we stripped all beds. Loaded dishwasher, cleaned refrigerator, cleaned stove. She says there was vomit in the sink. No way. Who the heck throws up in a sink. Besides, it's so tall, you couldn't reach it if you tried. She accused us of leaving feces on the toilet. No way. I personally inspected everything before we left at 9am and the house was in very good condition. We intentionally left blankets out of closet because we used them and wanted to make sure she washed them before next guests arrived. In hindsight, I'm thinking we were using dirty covers. She said it took her housekeeper 10 hrs to clean the house. She also said we broke a towel rack and a thermostat cover. Not us! My son & daughter-in-law were in that room and they never touched the thermostat. I'm sorry, but, either the housekeeper is not being honest or someone got in that house after we left. And no towel rack was broken when we left. We asked for pictures of damages and wrecked house. She had none. If I had found my house in a wrecked condition, I assure you, I would have taken pictures. This is crazy. I'm dumbfounded. Also, she reviewed us and gave bad markings at 11:20pm her time which was 12:20 our time and past the "review your stay" deadline. Sounds fishy to me. I also lost one of my Mother's diamond earrings (she passed away a year ago) and Carla said the next guests found it. If that housekeeper cleaned for 10 hours, you would think SHE would have found it. And, they said they would mail it to me. I still haven't received it. Carla kept $250. Of our security deposit for "the mess and damage". I call foul play on someone's part! We have NEVER had any portion of a deposit withheld. I am very disappointed with the outcome of this situation. Shame on you, Carla and/or your housekeeper.

Dear Future Renters,
Please read the reviews of others before judging the above. Former renters have all said the house was immaculate when they arrived, and given positive evaluations of their stays there.
This is the first time I've ever had to keep even a portion of the security deposit, but I totally trust my Salida friend, who oversees the house, as well as my cleaning lady, who worked hours to get the house in shape for the next renters. They both arrived at the house shortly after the former renters left and agreed that it was in bad shape and that I should keep a portion of their security deposit, which I did.
Of course, we mailed the lost earring to this tenant, and hope to hear from her saying she got it. despite her negative review.
I am confused by this whole thing, but more determined than ever to make future renters' experience in my house a positive, enjoyable one.

Awesome location and the View were out of this world.
Rented back in March with no problem and the the Covid happened. We were kept informed and the owner did an awesome job of having everything prepared for us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Salida. The house was perfect for our party of 11. The large room in the bottom floor fit the 5 children, ages 8 through 14. Then there were two bedrooms on the main floor and one master suite on the top floor for the 3 adult couples. As mentioned in other reviews, the counters are all higher than normal both in the kitchen and bathrooms. There are some step stool provided. Also, the mattresses are adequate in the bedrooms but we had to add padding from some bed rolls in the closet to assist the kids on the fold out beds. All in all, the house was clean and pleasant. Just outside of town and on a hill, the views were beautiful. The kids (and adults) really enjoyed sledding and scouting out mule deer on the hills right behind the house.
House was wonderful for our family vacation. They had snow, which allowed my grandchildren to sled down hills on property for several days. Close to conveniences, yet secluded enough. Close to monarch skiing. Awesome place!

Great Property, Supurb location, Outstanding Communication
The property is well maintained, spacious, and inviting. Close to town and reasonable proximity (about 30 minutes) to Monarch Mountain. We enjoyed our stay here. It is a great value, but most importantly, is well furnished and comfortable, with great views of the mountains. Carla, the owner, was very nice to deal with and she is genuinely concerned that everything is in order. Highly recommend!

Great house. Perfect for multiple families
The house was great, even better that we had hoped. There were three families in our group and we were a little worried about the space/layout. Upon arrival, everything was clean and in order. All appliances worked well. The kitchen is large enough to cook meals for 12 people and it was outfitted with all of the utensils, bakeware/cookware we needed. The dining table is huge and we were able to fit all three families around it for meals. All of the beds were comfortable and there is an abundance of blankets. The TV has been updated since the photos, so there is a smart TV in the main living area.
The location is also good. There are hiking trails out the back door. Downtown Salida is close and Monarch ski resort was about a 30 min drive on the busiest ski day of the year. We definitely recommend this house and will rent it again when we go back to Salida.
The owners were very helpful. They provided all of the information and instructions up front so we had everything we needed to get in, have a great trip and check out easily.

Great family vacation getawat
Spacious home that is very well set up to accommodate any family situation. We were very pleased that anything we could think we might needs was provided, a big plus when we had Thanksgiving feast to prepare. Home was inviting, clean, organized and very comfortable. The views are spectacular with direct easy access to town. We will be back.

Majestic Views with Great Location and comfortable living
This house is perfect for large family groups, with expansive sleeping accommodations and lots of seating for relaxing inside or out. It has a well equipped kitchen with everything needed for any kind of food prep, along with a nice big dining table for big family meals. It was exactly what our group of 9 adults and 5 kids needed! Just up the hill is access to awesome mountain biking and hiking trails, and just down the hill is quick access to all that the town of Salida has to offer....great restaurants, easy access to food stores, unique shops and high end bike shops. Carla was an outstanding host/owner, checking in regularly to see that we had everything we needed. We particularly appreciated use of the garage to store all our groups' bikes at night. One highlight of each day was sitting out on the deck watching the sun set over the Collegiate Peaks. No other way to describe it than simply "majestic". We will be back for sure!

Home is arranged for adults that are tall-we are NOT, so awkward for our family to use the kitchen
Ok house, but all kitchen counters were chest height, along with the bathroom vanities. This made cooking unsafe (felt like Mrs Doubtfire might happen). Using sinks in vanities was impossible without dragging in a chair from another room. Not appropriate for families with children since the decks were barren except for a table and chairs if you wanted to sit outside. Unfortunately there was trash from two previous renters overflowing the one can where you always came into the driveway. It was smelly and we wondered about varmits getting it spread all over. No meals prepared here because of all the former dislikes. We were charged an additional $145 Service Fee, besides our $100 cleaning fee with no explanation. Sleeps 16 but Carla charged us an extra $10/night for each person over 6–what?! Overall we would have been better off renting hotel rooms in town. Bedrooms and basement were nice for the grandkids and being together: She asked us to start a couple loads of wash before we left, even though she didn’t ever remove trash. Not really happy with location since so far from river and many turns out of our epicenter, downtown Salida.

If potential renters look at previous guests’ reviews, they will note that most of our guests are extremely satisfied with their stay at my house. I make clear that they can contact me, day or night, with any questions or concerns regarding anything. Her comment on the “remoteness ‘of the house was interesting as we are in a beautiful location facing mountains, only two blocks outside the city limits and with a mere five minute drive to downtown Salida.
All the additional charges she mentioned were clearly stated on the information page of my VRBO721364 listing and typical rental fees. These included the additional VRBO charge for service , cleaning fee, and added fee of $10.00 per night per person for the number of people over eight .
The garbage situation was unusual and regrettable, as my past renters have always made sure they take the garbage to the road for early Thursday morning pickup. Unfortunately, the group staying at the house just before this renter did not bring the garbage to the road and the current renters had to put their garbage in garbage bags and place them in the garage for the next Thursday pickup.
The “barren” porch had a table and chairs on it, but the cushions for these chairs were in the garage. (They cannot be left outdoors, as the wind and rain would ruin or blow them away. It only required a trip to the garage to fetch them.]
The renters made an excellent suggestion that I should note in my listing that the kitchen counters (42“) and the bathroom counters (42” and 36”)are high and that short adults or children might have trouble accessing them. We do have step stools in the kitchen for that purpose.
I encourage future potential renters to read my other reviews.

Beautiful views and well stocked.
The owner is super friendly and helpful. She has just about everything you can imagine in her house. My husband and I took the upstairs room and bathroom, our parents used the main floor rooms and bathroom and our teenage sons stayed in the basement room with a bathroom. There was plenty of space if we needed. But most times we were all together in the living room. There was plenty of seating for all of us in the living room and at the dining room table. There are awesome views from each side of the house. It is on the edge of town. So it is not far from anywhere whether it is is Monarch, downtown, Wal-Mart or a restaurant.

Great family memories made in this beautiful property
The house was very clean and welcoming. There was plenty of room for our kids and spouses to spread out. The kitchen is well equipped. I loved that the kitchen, dining room, and living room is all open. We were 20 minutes from Monarch Mountain ski resort, and only a few minutes from grocery shopping or downtown shops. The owner is quick to reply to any questions. We would definitely recommend this place!

Great venue for a big group!
We really enjoyed the house. All the rooms were occupied and we hosted three family reunion dinners (catered) with between 20-30 people and everyone was seated comfortably (we brought an extra table and some extra chairs), many of them on the deck. The long driveway is great for plenty of cars (and we had an RV parked there one night).
The deck is great for sunsets and plenty of windows to deal with the summer heat. Internet may require you to re-enter password, but it worked fine for the most part. It was a wonderful gathering place for everyone.

Beautiful, clean and relaxing.
Thanks again to Carla for our wonderful stay at her home in Salida. Her home is large, clean and spacious allowing each of us (this time we had two adults and four kids) to have our own bed. The downstairs is wonderful for the teens to hang out while the adults have lots of space upstairs to watch TV, play cards or mellow out in front of the fire. The house has spectacular views of the mountains and is still easily accessible to town and driving up to Monarch. The closets are all well stocked with blankets and towels and the pantry with dishes, etc. We will be back!

Wonderful stay in a wonderful home
Property was easy to find and get to, large three story home with fantastic views. Well stocked with utensils and kitchen aids for cooking as a group. With 12 people staying, there was plenty of room to sleep and lots of dining area for eating and playing cards. Snow was incredible(which always helps) and the convenience to town and Monarch mountain was a blessing. The gas fireplace also a nice touch.
