A+ for A shaped cottage
I stayed at the property for 1 month between sept and oct. To sum it up it was brilliant. A lovely private road between a forest that leads to gem property. The cottage is very well equipped (especially kitchen)d and has a instant homely feeling (cozy) . Sleep upstairs in the loft overlooking the lake and in the morning you will have forgotten all those nagging city worries. Top marks for the patio overlooking the lake , and the serenity of the overall property, plenty of green space for kids or an active dog. Communication was very fast and issues promptly resolved. The cottage is well heated .
Regarding the sulfur smell : yes the hot water (not the cold) does smell like sulfur, you get used to very quickly after you turn it on, I personally didn't find it as dramatic as mentioned in the other review, neither did my guest and the smell is isolated and it is normal. The big plus hot water actually gets very hot with good water pressure (nice for a fall morning). I would not think twice about staying again and will book again next year.
Cottage a little disappointing
Awesome area but cottage cupboards not clean, windows were really dirty , screen door fell off first day, as well the shower tap didn’t work well. Decks could use a cleaning too. Bedrooms were nice.
This spot has an amazing dock and the water is lovely. It is shallow for many meters out and is great for dogs, kids and adults. I was a little underwhelmed with the cleanliness but I think that is due to the cottage being very dated and needing renovating. The downstairs bed is very uncomfortable as well as the pull out sofa. The kitchen is well equipped but again very dated and there are mouse feces in the drawers. The deck also needs a good power wash. The town of Marmora and surrounding area is definitely questionable and not at all what we expected. Overall we dealt with it (and I cleaned and vacuumed a lot). The yard and lake made up for it. It was amazing for our dogs and we appreciate being able to bring them. Check in was easy and hosts were helpful and always available.
We enjoyed the property and the lake. The cottage had everything we needed.
A Serene Place to Rest and Have Fun
First cottage experience this summer and it was real fun! A great chance to escape every day routine and stress. Place is very comfortable and well equiped to accomodate any age. Lots of board games and movies. TV and fan in each room . Internet service as well as a telephone line assured that we kept connected. Kitchen has everything you might need. Just bring in your food. If we go there again, we will probably take our own kettle with us because we prefer the cordless type. The paddle boat and kayaks were awesome and the lake view was fascinating. Mosquitos were brutal as in all bushy locations but we were well prepared with insect repellents . Tap water was good for washing and cleaning but the owner provided drinking water and we brought bottled water with us as well. We enjoyed our stay and we definitely like to visit again.
Rustic camping at best....
I really wanted to love this spot, the pictures are great and the view is awesome. But the cottage water had a strong foul sulfur smell to it, which filled the cottage every time we ran the taps. You couldn't wash your hands or have a shower, it was just terrible. I emailed the owners and was told that perhaps it was a bit stronger due to the rain recently, but other renters didn't mind the smell, it would go away quickly, and it was just a fact of cottage life. Other cottages that we visited on the same lake did not have this problem, and the smell did not go away, no matter how long we ran the water. Far worse than this were the mice that we shared the cottage with. I tried explaining the situation to the owners, that an exterminator was needed. But I was told that they would have the cleaners set traps the next time they were at the cottage to catch the "one little bugger who was coming in to take a look around". Which meant that we would have to just live with it for the week we were there. My husband went out and purchased traps and we caught two mice while we were there. Then each morning there would be more mouse droppings all over the counter and kitchen floor, despite the fact that we kept all food in the fridge for fear of attracting them, and wiped everything down each night before bed. It was awful. We left a day early because it was just so unpleasant. We are avid travelers, we have camped and rv'd and this was by far the worst experience we have ever had with a rental.
Do not rent to this person. It was trouble before they even got to the property. They read and signed all of the cottage rules on the rental agreement then tried to have a 20 person party at the cottage. We refused to allow this given we have a maximum number of people allowed on the property and have “no parties” on our rental page and the renter got nasty with us and started emailing us to complain about our decision and nitpick. Look at all the other reviews (as recent as a few weeks ago) before taking this person’s word. The renters the week before her emailed us to tell us how much they loved the cottage, so nothing could have changed so quickly. She was just being bitter and spiteful. We go there ourselves every few weeks to stay. It’s unfortunate when you get renters like this, but fortunately we have years of good reviews to back us up.
