A lovely quaint home with character and history decked with modern comforts of home.
Lots of living areas and space.
We could walk to the shops, eateries, pubs.
The fourth property in Orange I've stayed in over the last 3 years. Stayed two nights, this was by far the best and certainly not the most expensive property. Very well appointed and the bacon and eggs are a nice touch. The owner was extremely helpful and I am looking forward to staying there again.
The house was amazing very warm and comfortable with all that we required to make our stay a great experience. Our host went above and beyond to make our stay seamless and memorable. We will definitely be back.
Thank you….
Plenty of room for six adults, close to everything!!! Lots of heating options.
Not much space to put clothes and bags away. Difficult to unpack. No tea towels in the kitchen, luckily we had some. Only one hand towel in the main bathroom for six adults, four nights, which was wet after one day. Need more towels. The kitchen is well appointed and the fenced from and back yards perfect for our dogs.

Thanks for your review Cheryl. Your stay puts us just over hosting 600 people across 150 stays and ~50 furry friends. It’s been a busy couple of years and great to be part of helping people get acquainted with beautiful Orange. I was pleased when you messaged me directly with “Hi Ross, we just left your lovely home. It is very well appointed and we thank you so much.”
For any future guests, please take my note of “Please call with any questions or queries” seriously. We are here to ensure you have a great stay. There are oodles of towels, tea towels and all other supplies at the house. A quick message would have given access to these in minutes.
On the storage, we are torn about putting in built in cupboards which would detract from the original detail of the house. For now we have opted for hanging space for a dozen or so pieces in both queen bedrooms and a few drawers. We feel it is well set up for short stays. We’ll review the storage agin now that it has been raised.
You are welcome back anytime!
Regards
Ross & Karen, and a hearty woof from Spike :-)
The three bedrooms are accompanied by an open plan living, dining and kitchen with bonus of second sitting room. The open plan area has a combustion fire which kept the home very warm.
There is also (almost) two yards. Both areas are large and divided by garage (not accessible). If you have a family group, the young ones can "go down the back" and the adults can enjoy some peace on the back decks. There is also a terrace accessed from the second sitting room.
Lots of space and light with enough heating to keep the zero temps at bay.
Highly recommend for combined family groups as entertaining is easy. You can also walk to CBD for groceries or other required items. You may not need to take the car out as it is close to many amenitis.
You should go!
The pictures don't convey how nice is this property. When we walked in we instantly felt a sense of calm. Every possible need was met, including some welcoming local bread and wine (the essentials of life for centuries).
As a frequent traveller, one of my 'pet hates' is a grimy welcome guide book, you know the slimy plastic sleeves and wrinkled inserts. This one looked like it had been put together yesterday, clean, fresh and informative - as well as describing the history of the house.
The owners, Ross and Karen, trusted us with nurturing the garden, which we were happy to do in these drought conditions (but wasn't forced upon us). Ivan took some cuttings of the roses to propagate - so Ida's roses will now live on in our home town.
Our two chihuahuas were welcome and loved running up and down the corridor and exploring a new garden.
There was no big dramas / attitude with us being a gay couple, which sometimes (still) happens.
The only suggestion would be (i) aircon in the main bedroom - but actually we didn't seem to need it and (ii) some extra towels?
We'll def.s come back!

Thanks for your kind review Andy and Ivan. Appreciate your help with the garden, the drought is really taking its toll out here.
Regarding your suggestions, we have put portable ACs in the bedrooms this week. Summer temps in Orange are normally mid 20s and a fan is more than enough, but we have had more than two weeks of mid 30s highs. We will get a proper split system in before next summer, it's difficult to find any trades to do installs in January in Orange. In the recent renovation we put a lot of time into setting up for cold winters but the hot summer caught us by surprise.
We will also make extra towels available, most requests like that are just a message away to get sorted during a stay.
Hope your rose cuttings take well. Ida adored roses and the 40+ rose plants were planted by her. The ones along the front on the house came up from her previous house at 82 Kite and have been in the family for 50 years now.

This property is immaculatly presented and extremely comfortable in a fantastic location.
Exceptional location and property with a good safe yard for our dog. Everything was fantastic and the information folder provided all required information on the property. An excellent property to rest and relax with everything provided/needed. The only minor problem was with the electronic lock for access but this was quickly overcome on contacting the owner Ross. The property was very comfortable and very convenient to everything we needed.
It was of a high standard and we would stay there again,
This was our second stay at Ida’s Cottage. It has everything you need for an enjoyable stay, convenient location, close to shops and a great yard for our dog. We will return.
We stayed in Orange at Ida’s Cottage for a week. Originally planned to be a larger group, it ended up being just myself and my husband. The house is immaculately presented with all of the comforts of home. I commented to my hubby, that we could have even baked him a birthday cake if the rest of our group had come.
Comfortable bed, great living areas L, a fully equipped kitchen, we really couldn’t have wanted for anything during our trip.
Ross & Karen have created a super informative handbook, one of the best we’ve seen. The gardens are simply lovely, roses and various other flowers in abundance. Whilst we didn’t have our furkids with us on this trip, we can absolutely see that this property has great fencing and setup for those travelling with dogs.
Thanks guys for letting us stay in your house. We loved it.
Clean, comfortable house with lots of character and everything you need. Close to shops. Lot of little things make it an excellent place to stay. Pet friendly which is fantastic. Would recommend.
Charming spacious cottage with huge gardens right in the heart of Orange
We spent 3 wonderful nights with 4 adults, 2 children and 3 dogs. The location is perfect to walk to the main streets of Orange, nearby parks and restaurants. It was also only a 16min drive to all the main wineries. The house itself is spacious with 3 large bedrooms, 1 with ensuite and another bathroom with separate bath and shower. 2 huge living areas both with Tvs and a great open plan kitchen and dining area. We took 3 dogs and were very happy to find a fully fenced, secure front and backyard which was also huge for the dogs to run around in. Heating was great - both electric and logfires and we were able to keep the whole house warm. Also had an outdoor fire which the kids loved. We would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting Orange. Highly recommend also coming in Autumn with all the pretty trees and leaves. Big thank you to Ross and Karen for being the perfect hosts.
Beautiful, clean, well equipped home in great central location in Orange
Our family of 4 loved our stay at this home. Everything was clean, tidy and had all we needed for our 4 days stay. House was warm and inviting, Beds very comfortable, centrally located so we could walk to the shops. Highly recommend for a relaxing break
This lovely heritage cottage was lovely to stay in. It was close to town, beautifully renovated, and had nice features like wood fire and collated brochures. We brought our dogs and it had a nice dog friendly yard. We would stay here again and recommend to others.
I bought my husband and small daughter home to Orange for a family get together and Ida’s Cottage couldn’t have a better place to stay. Renovated tastefully and in such a great central location to everything you need. Would love to come back and stay for longer.
The house was well presented and comfortable. Nice wine and breakfast items complimentary on arrival. All the homes appliances were up to date and worked. The yard was great for the dogs, plenty of room and well fenced. Would recommend to others.
A fantastic house in a great location just a block from the town centre with a beautiful cottage garden and lots of off-road parking. Very well equipped with high quality finishes but with all the original character still intact. We were 6 long-time friends on a trip to discover Orange. Ida's worked perfectly for us, couldn’t fault it.
