-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at Shelter 1. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

• The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

** Cleaning Protocols ***
As the only professional management company in the area, we have always maintained exceptional cleaning standards. We pay above the living wage standards; 100% of your cleaning fee is paid to the cleaners (i.e. no profit to us) and we insist on a professional level of cleaning between guests. We love the High Desert for a lot of reasons - including the open spaces, lack of crowds, and dry weather that we believe make it a safe place to visit.

Guest Access:
You have access to every room and feature of this beautiful home.

If you need a little more space, Shelter: Two can also be rented in conjunction with its sister property, Shelter: One, which sits on an adjacent 2 1/2-acre parcel of land. This is the perfect arrangement for larger groups.

Monument Manor is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the Joshua Tree area given its immediate proximity to the park and breathtaking vistas of the area’s signature Craggy Mountains and desert plants.

When you’re ready for some outdoor adventure, Joshua Tree National Park’s West Entrance is just 2 minutes away by car.

Searching for great eats, drinks, shops, and things to do? Here are a few recommendations in Joshua Tree Village, a 5-minute drive away:

Getting Around:
Many roads in the high desert are dirt, so please take it slow. While a car is required to get around, a four wheel drive car is not, but note that roads will often have ruts, particularly after a rain.

This was an incredible place - the place was well kept, felt modern and had everything we needed to cook meals in and relax. The sky was great for stargazing and the sliding doors even let you view the stars from inside while you sleep if you turned off all the lights. The amenities were awesome - a fire fixture, a hot tub, indoor/outdoor shower, and multiple places to sit and relax outside. The property felt secluded but was still not too far from the main road so eating out and going to the park felt easy as well. We saw a good amount of wildlife which was really cool to see - while we were barbecuing a jackrabbit even ran by. It was close enough to the entrance of the park that a lot of the life we’ve seen visiting the park in the past but haven’t seen outside the park was out here as well. All in all we’d definitely recommend

Desert sunsets are the best!
This place is very clean, well cared for, nicely decorated and well stocked. All the necessities that you could ask for and what a gorgeous view of Yucca Valley and the sunset, from anywhere in the house! The only drawback is that the neighborhood is getting more crowded and there is a new home being built that sullies the nice view from the kitchen. Not much can be done about that as it seems that this area is very popular as it is literally at the edge of the National Park. Hopefully the view towards the valley stays unobstructed for awhile longer!
