This is one of the best places you will find for cycling. Miles and miles of quiet tarmac lanes, plus the most amazing brand new cycle path that goes from the mountains to the sea. You can do short trips in to the local town, or spend the day exploring the area. The brand new cycle path links up several towns/villages is very easily accessed from the house - bring your cycle shorts. We have bikes for those who ask by special request.
There is a beautiful coastline within a short drive of the property. Miles and miles of long golden beaches around Argeles are around 20 minutes drive away. They are blue flag and have been voted some of the best in the world. Plus the beautiful fishing villages such as Collioure on the Vermillion coast are a must to visit.
Perpignan 30 mins. Gerona 50 mins. Carcassonne 60 mins. Beziers 60mins
Toulouse 2 hours. Barcelona 2 hours (1hr 20mins by new super TGV train) . Car hire is recommended, however it is not essential.
Local village of Reynes is less than a mile away. Market town of Ceret with loads to do and see is 2 miles away. Perpignan is half an hour's drive away. Spain is about 20 mins away in the car, with Barcelona about 2 hours. The TGV is scheduled to be complete this year making trips to Barcelona much quicker. Beaches from around 20 mins drive.
You can take a short walk to Reynes village either along a quiet lane or over a small river and down a track, past a small holding farm with goats, donkeys, chickens etc They also provide meditation classes, massage and yoga. In Reynes there is a boulangerie, pharmacy, PO, local farmers selling their produce at the height of summer, an outdoor arena near the river that holds festivals with dancing and 3 restaurants in the village all less than a mile away. Ceret (2 miles), has all the commerce's you may need, including an excellent art gallery and a music school that has some magnificent concerts. Mike packed in his successful job when Theo (our third child) was a baby. We sold up in the UK, bought a trailer tent and ended up at a camp site on a beach with our three children for the summer, looking and deciding where to live. By September we had chosen a school in an area that we liked, set up our own small business and then proceeded to look for a place to buy whilst we rented. Our three children were by now in the local school. We fell upon this house, it was in quite a state when we bought it, however, now with many years of hard work from all the family, it is now a pretty as a picture and we are very proud of it. We love our French house, we love the people, the lifestyle, the weather – if we had stayed in France any longer we wouldn't have ever come back to the UK.
Susan purchased this villa in 2002
Why Susan chose Reynes
As we were living in France we wanted somewhere quiet but not remote for the children. It had to be accessible so that we could travel back and to to England easily to see the family and somewhere where we could swim, sail in the summer, with a warm, dry climate and yet go skiing in the winter. Chez nous... Montagne - Mer
What makes this villa unique
It’s in a very friendly village, set in a wonderful location where you can access/see the mountains or the sea. From the house you can walk along a quiet lane to the school, boulangerie, and a couple of shops/restaurants. The weather is brilliant, the house is in a sheltered spot with its own micro climate so it is usually warm, sunny, still and dry.
