RENT THE BEACH HOUSE OF TOP INTERIORS STYLIST - No 22 in Sunday Times Top 100
'Beach break' is a contemporary interior designed house in a 'shabby chic' style with mature secluded quarter acre garden a short way down a lovely quiet lane in Widemouth Bay village and just 300m walk from a stunning sandy surf beach. Mum is one of London's leading interior stylists at Elle Decoration magazine.
Dad's a bit of a geek, runs an arts education charity and is a wannabe surfer. The boys can't decide which bit they love the most, exploring the walled garden, playing in the rock pools, looking at the lobsters at the village fish shop. If you want a quirky, stylish, yet high tech holiday home from home with a contemporary beach house vibe then read on.
From the Farrow and Ball on the walls and White Company Linen on the massive beds to the well equipped kitchen, you won't be disappointed. This website is full of bland, soulless rentals with B&Q/Ikea interiors.
The wood fired pizza oven is a unique feature and a hit with everyone. Pizza really never tasted so good. Be sure to check out the photos on the external website at the link below.

A very relaxing stay in a lovely family home close to the beautiful Widemouth Bay. Lots of outdoor space to explore and location was very private and quiet.

Thank you for your kind words.
We aren't one of those big firms that let out via these sites nor one of those sanitised, often soulless second homes people let out, simply let our second home, as we leave it, so it means a lot when people appreciate it as much as you did.
(* we do of course send cleaners in and they spend 8 hours cleaning it before and after every letting ;-)
Beautiful, quirky property with a conservatory to die for! The house is only a few minutes walk to the beach, with many other walks available directly from the house. We were a group of friends who had a fun and relaxing time. Recommend!!
We have just returned from the most wonderful week at this property in Widemouth Bay. A short stroll from the beach, good cafes and restaurants, it is not only the ideal location to explore Cornwall but a real wonderland for children. Our four Aussie kids were happiest exploring the gardens, full of secret nooks and crannies and beautiful English wildflowers. When asked what they wanted to do one day, they just wanted to stay at the house! We all enjoyed table tennis competitions well into the evenings too.
The owners of this house have nailed keeping the original charm alongside modern renovation; the bathroom is pure luxury. The attic room was a kids haven, though the stairs are steep and narrow so would not suit very small children.
The pizza oven was lush but takes a few hours to warm up so plan ahead! We recommend buying lobster straight from the bay in the morning and having dinner in the beautiful garden that evening.
We are already saving up to return - we feel relaxed just talking about it. Thank you, we take wonderful memories away from Widemouth Bay.

My goodness, what a lovely review. Thank you for taking the time to write this. We find Aussie guests particularly demanding, yet particularly appreciative of the house too. Means a lot. Thanks.
It was lovely having you. Come back soon!
we were 3 generations of family wanting a relaxing week together, and Beach Break fitted the bill perfectly. The stylishly laid-back feel of the house together with the huge living family space was just right for us, and everything was clean and welcoming when we arrived. We were very much aware that this is Nick and Amanda's family holiday home and as such it is really well equipped, the kitchen is best-in-class with an impressive array of kit, and the wood fired pizzas were memorable), and the house was a delight to stay in. The garden had enough space for our toddlers, and with the beach just a short stroll away, who could want more? Many thanks Nick and Amanda, for a lovely holiday.

The property is on a quiet cul de sac, within easy walking distance of a large beach. There are local facilities and we had a great family holiday at the property. There kitchen living area is open and light, the property has a large private garden

Thanks for the review Sue.
You had two of the best weeks of weather all year so hope you had a lovely time and will come again.
We had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is lovely and has so many fun features and the location is perfect - just steps from a lovely beach, a short drive to local restaurants and shops, and a great jumping off point to explore Cornwall. We would love to stay again!

Thank you so much for this lovely feedback Elizabeth - it means a lot especially at this extraordinary time so thank you for being such respectful and understanding guests - it's always a good sign when our cleaners comment on what a thorough job guests do on checking out to leave the house safe for them to clean.
Thank you too for understanding that we have had to raise our rent this summer to recoup losses and meet demand and we're glad you were able to stay and enjoy/celebrate your good fortune, both health and financial.
You'd be very welcome back anytime.
Lovely property and stay. Very helpful and responsive property owner

Beautiful, thoughtful house - perfect for cooks and kids
We had such a great time here, despite the weather - the house is super-well-stocked with kids' toys, kitchen equipment and things to do. On the days when it wasn't raining, the beach is a short stroll away and there are surf hire shops everywhere so it's perfect for surfers too. I really want to come again one day. Huge thanks to Nick and his family for putting together such a lovely haven that everyone can share!

Fabulous!
Felt at home immediately. Decorated beautifully but in a relaxed style. Had everything we could possibly need. Outdoor space perfect. Endless test matches by the boys on the grass. Different spaces to sit outside and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine.
Great spot close to the beach for bodyboarding. Feels quiet and private which we loved. One of the best places we've ever been on holiday.
Nick was so responsive and helpful with queries.
Wonderful memories..... we will be back.

Wow! Thank you so much for this Sarah, your kind words mean so much.
We've never really pushed for reviews and OwnerDirect have only just added this feature so it's great to see such a glowing review (you aren't a travel writer are you? ;-)
Needless to say it was a joy to have you. There's an element of randomness that goes with the 'shabby chic' vibe we try to create (and in Cornish weather creates itself) and we're glad you like this contrast in our home compared to what can often be so sanitised and bland in many more commercially run lettings.
The best time of the year is now upon us - the warm seas, lovely light and quiet beaches of September and October. We have loads of availability so why not pop back for the weekend. We regularly drive down Fri eve and back Sun. At 12 and 14 our boys still sleep all the way (leave iPads at home!)
Happy Family Days...

I doesn't get better..........
This is the perfect holiday home for the whole family including kids and toddlers. Appointed to an exceptional standard to delight even the most critical adult the house benefits from the owners understanding of children and they made it safe, really safe so you can just relax and stop worrying. The kids loved the play areas so much it was tough to get them down to the beach. And yes it is only a short walk! Enjoy - we certainly did.

About the host
Hosted by Beach Break
Nick has a career in internet marketing and computer stuff behind him which he put on a back burner to start a charitable initiative to get creativity into primary schools (www.steamco.org.uk) which benefits local Cornish and Devon Schools as much as it does those in Liverpool, Wigan, Sunderland and Scotland.
A maker at heart, he's pretty handy and is forever pottering around Beach Break when he's down there - whether it's building a compost heap out of left over bits of decking or laying a bit more track for the garden railway with the boys.
Unlike many second homers, Nick is keen to give back and play a part in his community ion London and Cornwall, where the family support the Bude Community Sea Pool, Beach Clean, RNLI, Life Guards, Church and local businesses and arts projects where we can and values the friendships and relationships he has made in Widemouth Bay, Bude and way beyond now down to Penzance.
Amanda is a top interiors stylist and worked at Elle Decoration for ten years overseeing the style of the magazine and various shoots on location.
If anything gets painted for Beach Break she buys a dozen tester pots, paints pieces of A4 with them and sticks them up to see what works best in the lovely light we have down there. Yes, detail is everything, unlike many rentals she doesn't leave design choices to the builders (bless 'em) or a hasty dash to a DIY warehouse!
(She'd happily help you with your project if you need any tips)
Why they chose this property
Cornwall has always been a big part of our life. As kids our respective families took us on the seemingly endless drive down the A30 on family holidays before everywhere was bypassed.
When we first met we spent many weekends camping down in Polzeath - surfing or trying to get people to play volley ball with us.
Then some friends bought a place in Bude and moved down there. We stayed with them a few times and camped locally and realised what a lovely spot it is - quick and easy to get to, great local beaches, lakes, attractions and pubs.
When we were faced with the need to move in London, with two young boys growing up, we couldn't face the stamp duty bill so invested it in our life dream - a place in Cornwall that we use as much as we can and rent to help with the monster mortgage, especially now we're running an educational charity.
What makes this property unique
We love it for the same reason we're sure you will:
Families - we have loads of stuff for children to do- sandpit, trampoline and a slide.
Foodies - we have a great range of local food and veg suppliers, a great kitchen to cook it on, a wood fired pizza oven coming soon, a local cook who can come in, local gastro pubs or Rick Stein and Jamie just down the road.
Friends - with 4 bedrooms, sleep up to 9, Beach Break is a great place for friends whether it's other families or lads weekends!
Surfers - we have a great beach a short walk away for beginners and intermediate surfers alike. On bigger days there are some pretty hard core breaks like the reef break at Millook for those that really do think they are hard enough.
