Grade 2 Georgian Townhouse, spacious accommodation, town centre location.
Waterloo House dates back to 1815 and has an interesting history. It was once a boys school, and has the remains of the old Bideford potteries in the garden walls. As of 2024, we have finished upgrading the house with new windows, new carpets/floorings, and is newly decorated inside and out. The house stands proudly in a Georgian terrace and looks out over a beautifully manicured bowling green. Situated in a no through road with limited traffic, there is parking available in the local sports ground a few steps away (£2.50 a day). The house stands on 3 floors with ample accommodation for 12 people. There are 6 bedrooms, (4 doubles and 2 twins), 3 reception rooms, a good sized kitchen, and a games room. From the first floor kitchen, there is a sun terrace with steps that lead down to the patio area and rear garden. This walled garden is secure, peaceful and secluded. Half is laid to patio with the rear section to grass with some wild nooks and cranny's including a magical corner summer house. Bideford is affectionately known as 'The Little White Town' and has an interesting maze of narrow streets to explore with many fine Georgian and Victorian buildings. Some delightful shops and cafes are just a few minutes walk from the house, as well as Victoria Park situated along side the River Torridge and offers a museum and cafe, children's play area and paddling pool. Cycle hire is available in Bideford and the Tarka trail is recommended stretching from Torrington through Bideford to Barnstaple.

About the host
Hosted by Gaynor Cox
We live in a small village in North Cornwall where we also run Stewarts House Holiday Cottages. Having self catered on holidays ourselves over the years with our own family, we had an idea of what we wanted to offer in a holiday home. With a few years experience behind us now and with local knowledge we can help our guests get the most out of their holiday. It's important to us that our guests enjoy their stay and we will always be on hand if needed.
Why they chose this property
Bideford had a lot to offer without having to drive too far. The town has a lot of character with quaint back streets offering independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. There is a lovely riverside park with walks and cycle paths along the river Torridge. Ideally placed for exploring North Devon and also only 40 minutes from North Cornwall. You can also take the ferry boat from Bideford to Lundy Island.
What makes this property unique
If you are trying to cater to lots of different needs, Waterloo House may have the answer. A central town position for easy shopping and doorstep activities for teenagers and younger people, whilst the beaches and countryside are a very easy short drive away. Cars will be able to park in the sports ground opposite at £2.50 per day and outside the house for loading and during off peak permit hours. If you need to rely on public transport, the buses can take you to Barnstaple and beyond. We are fortunate that the house is in a quiet no through road and there seems to be little traffic noise for a house as central as this.
