Cosy cottage
The cottage is very cosy and warm with everything you need. Beds are comfortable. All very retro in style but spotlessly clean. Expansive views from the property and easy to reach Richmond or the North York moors. We enjoyed some (muddy) walks around the farm. Mary is very helpful and keen to make sure everything is ok. Somewhere to put muddy boots would be a good addition.

We live on the family run working farm. We feel that guests will enjoy this wonderful location and walk on the farm to see the sheep, cattle, stock vary depending on the season. We continue carried out tree planting and preservation work and restored the duck pond on the farm to encourage wildlife, birds and wild animals such, Mallard and wild geese. Wild geese fly over travelling from their feeding grounds to the lake at Ellerton, free to visit with parking & viewing hut. The verges are full of wild flowers and the drive is planted with spring flowers. Mary is a keen gardener - masses of spring bulbs line the drive - an avenue of trees with blossom and wonderful autumn berries, and the delights of autumn leaves; she will be delighted to help with any queries about the farm and the many interesting things to do in this wonderful part of Yorkshire. We are lucky to live near the local market towns, where we do all our shopping, we also enjoy the local theatre and cinema - time permitting I love walking on the farm and lanes. Children must be accompanied at all times, no one must enter fields or barns with working machinery. The drivers cannot see you. Please ask so I can you UpToDate on good places to eat - do not forget Betty's famous tearooms in Northallerton, they do meals all day it is worth the wait! We may be able to welcome a well behaved dog, please ask there is an extra charge for a well behaved dog and must be declared on the booking enquiry.

Why they chose this property

Guests tell us they relax as soon as they arrive. The cottage is located in the heart of this special farm which has lovely views towards the Dales and Yorkshire Moors. We have many lovely trees some grown from seed and strive to preserve the farm we have restored the pond on the farm to encourage wildlife, birds and wild animals , Mallard and wild geese. The variety of wild life is amazing but you have to be quiet to see them! Enjoy the walks from the door. Artist are inspired by the wonderful light, trees and views. The livestock on the farm varies with the season - mostly sheep. Enjoy the sun rises and sun set. We welcome a well behaved dog, on the understanding there is no extra cleaning, they are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture, and are not left alone . There is a charge of £25 for one dog, a second dog may be considered at an additional charge (small to medium in size) . Please ask. The bungalow works well for all the generations and is ideal for a family holiday. This is Herriot Country - it is loved by visitors from all over the world. The coast to coast walk and Swaledale Way go through the farm, on our path notice board we have many lovely comments in our book complementing us on our well maintained farm. The tranquility at the bungalow is not affected by the walkers, the path is well away from the bungalow. It is central for many historical areas, sport, gardens, good market towns such as Richmond, Thirsk and Bedale, villages and excellent hospitality. York, Ripon, Durham are easily accessible and National Trust properties and heritage sites. It is also fun to take a picnic and enjoy the landscape.
