Conveniently situated only one hour in each direction to their capital cities of Poitiers and Limoges, Chez Tartaud is surrounded by undulating farmland with tree-lined fields, cut into the dramatic rocky waters of the Gartampe river. Much of this landscape can be explored on foot or by bike on many of the leafy lanes (chemins) accessible directly from our smallholding where an abundance of flora and wildlife abounds. Bird-watchers and wildlife-spotters will love it here. You have access to the 12 acres of our organic smallholding. Our children love the animals, fresh vegetables, pond, fields, trees and the stream - we even have plans to restore the old lake. We offer eggs and seasonal vegetables direct from our potager, which beats supermarket taste with its just picked freshness. Preserved bottled vegetables, jams and pickles are also available.

A charming small holding - a real find.
This is exactly what a small-holding should be: charming, beautifully run with pairs of pigs, goats and cows - almost like a rural Noah's ark on a small scale. The gite is comfortable, clean and elegantly simple with no jarring details. It is lovely to open your own front door onto a pond and to eat breakfast looking at the ducks outside. And if you are wise, you will ask for some homemade jam to have with your croissants - for the home produce, including fabulous fresh veg, is part of the delight of this place. We were welcomed with fresh flowers and delicious black grapes from the vine growing nearby. Viv and Mick are kind, friendly and capable hosts but you also have plenty of privacy because the gite has its own little garden looking onto the pond. A really special place, a find.

Thank you Kate and Robin for your kind words.
We agree that this is a lovely area of France and are so pleased that you appreciated our lifestyle and the comfort we offer in the holiday cottage.
Kindest Regards,
Vivien & Michael

We stayed one week in the wonderful gite of Michael and Vivian. It has been a wonderful experience. We could pick figs fresh from the plant, the pond with ducks gave us a 'zen' feeling, just to sit there and overlooking the garden made me feel at ease. Everything is available in the house, and it is a great location, not far from beautiful villages like Montmorillon, or Confolens. We would love to return some day!

Our stay at Chez Tartaud June 2017
Chez Tartaud is a lovely gite in an ideal setting for peace and quiet and a restful holiday. We were made very welcome and were delighted with our accommodation and generous hospitality shown by Mick and Viv. The welcoming animals in the shape of parent geese and 4 goslings, taking daily dips in the pond literally just outside our back door, Indy the dog and the myriad butterflies and 'singing' frogs, added to the enjoyment of our time spent! Glorious weather added to the pleasure of sitting in the private garden with a glass or several, or just reading a book, and we shall look forward to a return visit in the future.

Idyllic Gite and with wonderful hosts
We had the most amazing time here, the perfect place to unwind and relax!
Mick and Viv gave us a warm welcome and were wonderful hosts throughout our stay. The Gite is beautiful and the pictures don't do it justice! The beds were comfy and the private garden perfect.
The river beach was lovely to swim in and cool off on a hot day. Montmorillon is a picturesque French town that offers a perfect day out or restaurants. However we enjoyed cooking every evening in the well equipped kitchen, often with fresh produce kindly supplied by Mick.
We highly recommend this his little gem and will be returning our selves next year.
Many thanks Mick and Viv

Why they chose this property
We moved here to downsize and become more self sufficient. The gite rental allows us to share the beauty of this area in France and sample some of our homegrown produce.
What makes this property unique
The Good Life! A quite rural but comfortable holiday cottage with all the mod cons to allow you to relax and unwind. The many tree lined tracks which are right on your doorstep are great for long or short strolls in the beautiful undulating countryside.
