8 nights staying locally and enjoying body boarding. It was home away from home. Had everything we needed. We cooked every night and never worried that we might not have what we needed. Showers were so good - nice showers are a must after body boarding all day! And they were fabulous. House was cozy, clean and smelled wonderful. Comfortable beds and warm even without the heat on. No horrible drafts or smells. We loved every moment at Hollyhocks.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hollyhocks and the location was great for walking to the local shops, down to the beach, restaurants and St Enodoc Hotel. A nice spacious cottage with a south facing enclosed garden that was good for our 2 small dogs and sitting in the sunshine. Wendy was really helpful and additional cleaning supplies were available for our stay.

Lovely, fairly spacious house. There were five of us plus one dog (nice secure back garden). Friendly pub just a 2 minute walk & other handy local shops nearby, e.g. nice bakery. A great base for various places, e.g. Polzeath Beach, Padstow, Port Isaac etc. Lovely beaches. Great surfing. The owner (Wendy) was very quick to respond & helpful too. Thank you.

Cosy house, great location
Just back from a very relaxing stay in this cosy home. Lovely attention to detail, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, sunny garden and excellent hosts. Ideal location for popping to shops, restaurants and pub. Beach is a walk downhill, so uphill on the way back, but well worth the effort! Very safe garden for dogs and kids, and well stocked garden shed with bikes, boards etc. Close to the road, but there is no noise at night, slept soundly! Can highly recommend a holiday here.

So glad you enjoyed your two week stay. Rock has something for everyone and Hollyhocks is well placed to reach all the favourite places and is nice and close to the famous bakery that you cannot resist!
Do come and visit again.
Wendy
The house is on a quite busy road, but once you’re inside it’s barely noticeable. There’s plenty of off road parking space which is a bonus. The house is nicely decorated in a calm seaside theme. It was warm when we arrived. The kitchen is well equipped. I’d definitely consider booking this again.

Thanks for your review Nigel, Hollyhocks is on Rock road that leads to the beach, ferry and restaurants. There is a good pub nearby and local shops too. The area is stunning, so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Wendy
Had a lovely stay here in February - cottage cosy once wood burner up and going! Perfect enclosed garden for our little dog. Kitchen really well equipped with lots of little extras (dishwasher tablets, tea towels etc). A little out of Rock itself but out of season this was no problem as parking in Rock was fine. Boys loved Rock beach at low tide, so much space to let off steam.

Thank you so much for another 5 star review, Hollyhocks ticks all the boxes for a great family holiday. Rock beach is an amazing space for children, dogs and the young at heart, watch the ferry come and go, and you can even see dolphins at some times of the year. All seasons provide different lights, skies and sunsets. Any time of year it 'rocks'!
Wendy
Lovely comfortable cottage with all the amenities you require. Great enclosed garden and superbly located to visit other areas. Short drive to Port Isaac and Rock with ferry over to Padstow which we did a few times. The Pityme Inn (a short walk) is great with lovely food and great staff. Tasting Rooms in Padstow also worth a visit. All in all a great last minute fund for us and we will definitely back for longer! Thank you x

Lovely cottage, very thoughtfully equipped and homely. Great to have use of bikes (if you wish), body boards and wet suits which save space in the car.
Lovely area, lots of lovely places to walk, do watersports and sight-see.
Loved The Mariners for a cheeky drink on a hot day and the boat trip over to Padstow for fish and chips is a must.

Thank you Jess, so pleased you had a good stay. The pubs and restaurants nearby are really good, there is the ferry to Padstow and lovely walks and beaches to explore. Hope you can return. Wendy
Clean throughout and has everything you need in the kitchen. Bedrooms great size and nice showers. Good location to walk from, or short drive to most places. We loved our holiday stay. The beds were comfy but if your on the tall side, they were framed so you can't put your feet over the end. It was nice to have off road parking, but if you have anything wider than a fiesta you might find it tight. Nice to be close to the beach, but it is a hardy stroll there and back. Overall a great place to stay, would be happy to book again.

Thanks for your review and pleased you enjoyed your stay. There are so many places to visit and some beautiful scenic walks with lots of coffee/tipple stops. We regularly park our Audi A6 estate there and you can get a second vehicle off road too. Amazing sunsets and evening strolls. Wendy
We had a great stay at Hollyhocks. Cottage is clean warm and comfortable with all mod cons and everything you could need for a self catering holiday. We were very lucky with the weather, managing to lunch in the garden a few times. Hollyhocks is located about 20-30 minutes walk from the beach, on the main Rock Road, but with plenty of footpaths to take across the golf course, its a pleasant walk.
The only thing that would improve the stay is the provision of towels for guests. Wendy is a great host and we would definitely recommend.

Thank you Sue, so pleased you enjoyed another great stay. As you say many walks from the door or a short drive and amazing scenery and views to be found. We hope you can return again, Wendy
Overall an enjoyable week spent at this house. The living room is very spacious and the garden was pleasant to sit in (apart from during the week when the builders were operating diggers and breakers). Found the kitchen very small and the fridge freezer was very undersized for a family with small kids. Irritating being in a cupboard so you had to open two doors to get in the fridge. As it's right on the main road into Rock it isn't a peaceful spot with the traffic going past but good location for day trips to Rock and Daymer Bay which we love .

About the host
Hosted by Wendy Head moortoseacottages
We are Mark, Wendy & Ellie and we live on Dartmoor in Devon with our hens and ducks. We owned holiday cottages in a nearby village for 12 years, then took a break to bring up our daughter. We had the opportunity to purchase property in Rock, Cornwall which have been successful as holiday rentals. We have now converted the barn which was the site of the original Manor House before it burnt down. It has a 'home from home' feel which is important so you can relax and enjoy your holiday. We have added things we have collected over the years to make it feel homely for our guests. If you wish to plan a two centre holiday we aim to provide short breaks at both location except in high season. We are nearby if needed but Cowshed has a private garden giving full seclusion for relaxation. We have added Bryher in Rock, then Morocco House, Kingswear Dartmouth in 2019 and in 2020 Sandbar in S Cornwall moortoseacottages.
Why they chose this property
Hollyhocks & Bryher offer comfort and peace yet are a few minutes walk to the local shops, beaches, golf and water sports activities. The accommodation is flexible to suit families or groups and provides a good base for seeking out the other local treasures such as Port Isaac and Boscastle. Hollyhocks is a cosy yet spacious home and great for us as we live amongst granite tors and rolling fields, but the pull of the ocean lures us away to enjoy Rock and the surrounding area. Bryher provides a modern alternative for smaller parties. The Cowshed is a fantastic base for exploring Dartmoor and Devon. It is modern and spacious with its own private courtyard garden within our grounds. Nearby villages provide all you need an have excellent dining and shops. Two centre holidays an option. Morocco House Nr Dartmouth added moortoseacottages
What makes this property unique
In Rock we enjoy walking to local shops and to the nearby beaches, our favourite walk is from Daymer Bay to Polzeath and in warm seas you can see dolphins swimming. We love the convenience of having everything nearby, strolling to the beach and ferry and accessing all the lovely walks. Our daughter still enjoys messing about in the surf, taking photos and equally enjoys the shopping experiences of local villages and towns. Once in Cornwall nowhere is that far away and there are gardens and National Trust houses to visit, seal sanctuaries and tourist attractions. The Eden project is well worth a visit too. Our Dartmoor property is surrounded by beautiful countryside, plenty of attractions or peaceful walks. The Cathedral city of Exeter provides shops, history and plenty of places to eat. Explore Dartmoor and enjoy a cream tea along the way.
