About this property

Peaceful with Patio in Downalong, Moments from Beaches, Harbour, Town, Parking

The Cobbles offers charming ground floor one bed accommodation with additional double sofa bed, in one of the oldest buildings in St Ives in the much loved old fisherman’s quarter, tucked in just behind St Ives' colourful historic harbour and sea front. It is on one of the most beautiful lanes in St Ives - a quiet narrow pedestrian only cobbled street rising up from the Harbour. The Cobbles now has an exclusive fixed parking space in easy walking distance above the Tate gallery which you can use if you wish for an extra charge in advance. Ask the owner. Or arrive on the train as St Ives has its own train station within walking distance and you won't need a car unless you wish to explore the wider area - and for that there are buses, trains and taxis. You’ll find the Cobbles has the perfect holiday location: central for St Ives' unspoilt lanes, independent shops, five fantastic beaches - you can actually pad back and forth barefoot with your bodyboard from the front door if you like to the long sweep of Porthmeor sands or the pretty Harbour beach. Enjoy swimming, surfing, walking and relaxing; discover this unspoilt little town with its rich history and diversity of art galleries, old inns and wealth of good quality restaurants and cafes. Picture yourself strolling free as a bird out of your own front door to enjoy within whistling distance all the life and inspiration of St Ives, including stunning views of the bays on both sides of the 'Island', clean and inviting beaches, romantic sunsets and coastal walks as well as a wealth of small fascinating shops and the renowned and extended Tate St Ives Gallery which overlooks Porthmeor beach.. The Cobbles is an ideal choice for a holiday at any time of year - St Ives has a mild climate, often stunning sunshine and that famously enthralling light, with the thrill of high tides. There is so much to see and do all year round in this unique little town including a famous Jazz club, old cinema, boat trips from the harbour and of course it's the perfect place for finding interesting arts and crafts and Christmas shopping. In September there is the annual festival for two weeks of non stop cultural events and at New Year people flock in costumes to St Ives for an incredible outdoor celebration in the streets on New Year's Eve. Be prepared to enjoy just being inside at the Cobbles as well; it's warm and cosy, the lighting is generous, the facilities modern but unpretentious, so it's a good place for reading, writing, drawing or just catching up with yourself. The accommodation is fresh and clean, with comfortable beds, attractive design features and interesting original art on the walls. The pretty tiled patio right outside the door is of course a lovely quiet place to relax on sunny mornings. Guests love it and guest book comments include 'what a sanctuary this place is' ,'what a wonderful location!' 'could not fault this place - we will return,' 'spacious enough for the three of us', 'we'll most certainly be back for our anniversary', 'so clean and such a high standard' 'couldn't have asked for more!' .

Lovely apartment just off the harbour . Great location the only issue we had was with the family staying above us with young children who had no regard for times and making noise but this is by no means a criticism of our accommodation

Perfect

This is the most adorable cottage! Perfect location, so close to everything but also very quiet! We had a fantastic time and will definitely rebook next time we want to visit St Ives! We travelled from Vancouver, Canada to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in St Ives where my husband proposed 31 years ago and we also spent our honeymoon before emigrating to Canada!

Fab time

We have had a fabulous stay in StIves The Cobbles. Perfect little cottage/apartment. Beautifully clean and comfy. Fantastic location right near harbour. Big bonus having a private car park space at Barnoon because there were no public spaces free on the day we got there. Highly recommend. Many thanks

Fantastic find

Thoroughly enjoyed my week at this special little apartment in an envious location near to beaches, restaurants and all amenities. The property was light, bright and spotlessly clean. The bedroom was cosy and restful. Wonderful art. The piece de resistence was the pretty tiled patio ideal for breakfasting on a sunny morning. Can't wait to book next year. Love it!

Excellent location

Excellent little apartment. Very small but we didn’t care as we hardly spent any time in as the weather was good! Clean and a lovely Kitchen. Couldn’t work the dryer even after reading instructions maybe it’s user error 😂 but overall this is an excellent property and you really couldn’t get a better location. Just up a cobbled walk way near the sloop. Nothing is more than a few minutes walk. I recommend getting the parking pass from the landlord. It’s a bit of a walk down hill but we done it no problem with 3 cases and a 3 year old in tow! We will deffo stay again.

Very smart and well located!

The property is very well located, being literally 10-15 seconds away from Fore Street, the Sloop and the Harbour. Being up a pedestrianised alley (no vehicle access) it is very quiet and peaceful (bar the damn seagulls!!!) The property itself is very smart in appearance, well decorated, bright and functional (with wifi, tv, washer-dryer, iron/board etc). It comfortably slept me and the wife, plus my daughter and friend on the sofa-bed. There were also flowers, a pint of milk and tea/coffee/sugar, S&P etc left for us on arrival, which was a nice touch indeed. The small patio area outside is nice for breakfast and G&Ts, despite not getting much sun. If I was asked for one minor area of improvement it would be that the bed mattress is too new and hard!!! All in all a great place to stay. Thank you Judith.

Another fabulous week at The Cobbles

This was our third stay at The Cobbles since 2018 and it was as lovely this time (if not better!) as it was the first. The apartment was spotless, very homely as always, especially with the fresh flowers in the living room and bedroom, and so well equipped throughout, with ample indoor storage and wardrobe space. Other consistent welcome treats were the moreish biscuits and fresh milk provided by Judith on arrival. It’s a brilliantly located accommodation. I would highly recommend taking up the parking permit option which Judith offers at an additional cost as we noticed particularly this time, that there were virtually no spaces available in the long term car parks in St Ives. Myself, my husband and our nine year old daughter absolutely love it for the immediate access to some of the lovely niche little shops, choice of beaches, galleries and eating out options. We did a mixture of cooking our own meals, takeout and eating out. We bought fantastic fresh prawns from Stevenson’s in Newlyn to make a curry, re-visited the SILCo Searooms for great tapas and their very own gin, bought fresh homemade pasties from Pengenna Pasties (in our opinion the best in St Ives!), had delicious fish and chips from the Balancing Eel (literally 30 seconds hop from The Cobbles) and take out pizza from Peppers. Oh, and breakfast at Porthmeor Beach Café has always been great. Needless to say we are now de-toxing and deflating ourselves after all that! Judith has always been a fantastic and caring host, very accommodating and easy to communicate with. If I haven’t already I shouldn’t big up The Cobbles too much more in case we can’t get future bookings due to it’s popularity! Thank you so much Judith, we can’t wait to return.

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Judith and I live just outside St Ives I was born near Lancaster. I enjoy the landscapes and life of West Cornwall as well as travelling widely. I have grown up sons and have worked for charities in London, as well as in community learning. . The Cobbles scores highly with guests. It's a beautiful peaceful, simple space, a perfect location too and guests go home refreshed. I can offer flexible start dates and short or long stays, especially in quieter months. It's good to know I'm welcoming people from all sorts of backgrounds and lifestyles and with different interests ,from the UK and around the world, to create their own very special holiday, and to experience Cornwall. I feel lucky to be here and I hope they do too. I think most people who visit St Ives find that it makes their heart sing, one way or another.

Why they chose this property

For the last 9 years I've lived close to St Ives. The Cobbles gives guests a lovely place to stay at the seaside and their own patio. The location always surprises people; like me they love the fact that everything is on the doorstep; sea and sands, shops, cafes, galleries - and yet it is so magically quiet all year round because the lane is lined only with fishermen's cottages, - no shops and traffic free. The Cobbles has its own exclusive parking space available a few minutes walk away for an additional charge which is only a little more than the normal car park charges and takes the stress out of bringing the car. There are steps up and down to the parking space so one driver needs to be averagely mobile.

What makes this property unique

The changing seasons and atmosphere: being so close to the sea is incredibly exciting when the tide is high. I love being out of the front door and on the beach or the coast path in a minute. St Ives is buzzing with people having a great time - today everyone was out sunbathing or sitting at street cafes - it always feels like a happy place. You can just nip back if you forget something or want a break, then off you go again. I particularly enjoy exploring the art galleries. St Ives is rich in art and the Cobbles has some beautiful work on the walls. Shopping is different and exciting here - stress free and surprising. I go to the Tate Gallery of course to the changing exhibitions; and the cafe has brilliant views. I often walk along the stunning coast east or west or ride out further to explore because this is a beautiful part of the world, within easy reach of famous public gardens, museums, pre-historic sites, climbing and walking. There is St Ives School of Painting a few steps away with short courses and guests seem to love it. I've known a few guests produce paintings while staying here.
But it's also a delight to sit out on the little patio at the Cobbles or curl up on the sofa with a book and the radio and just enjoy the peace.
