About this property

Beautiful Woodland Retreat.

'Les Fougeres' is a beautifully converted barn with many natural timber features set in a peaceful rural location with many woodland walks and cycle trails on your doorstep. Les Fougeres is available for holiday rent for the Summer season i.e. Beginning of June - End of September on a weekly basis Saturday - Saturday. Wi-Fi connection.
The ground floor has an L shaped fully equipped open plan dining kitchen and a lounge with double height ceiling, flat screen TV comfortable 3 seater & 2 seater sofas and fireplace with a wood burning stove. A spacious double bedroom with patio doors opening onto the side garden. A large seperate shower room. On the first floor is a pretty and cosy twin bedroom. Both bedrooms have wash hand basins. Also a light and airy mezzanine which provides a lovely second chilling out area with sofas and armchairs, books and games. Attached to the cottage is a large utility room which also has space to store your bicycles. The pretty fenced garden with gated private entrance is set within 6 hectares of the owners woodland and with many delightful walks nearby including the Foret Vignoble (2 min walk from the cottage) which has designated nature trails and cycle trails (48km & 28km) and a wealth of information on the local flora and fauna. There is an outside table tennis table for guests to use and also bicycles that you are very welcome to use for your enjoyment at no extra cost. Albeit tranquil and relaxing you are very conveniently placed. The nearest restaurant is in the village of Beaupouyet (3mins drive) and the nearest town is Mussidan which caters for all your needs, and includes an open air swimming pool.The Perigord region is a beautiful unspoilt region rich in history and wildlife. Activities include boating, horse riding, golf at Bergerac (30mins) and Perigueux (40mins). Lac Jamaye Regional Park (35 mins ) Lac De Gurcon (30 mins) There is an excellent direct train service from Mussidan to Bordeaux and Perigueux. Bergerac is approx 30-35 mins by car and Perigueux 40-45 mins. We feel that the stairs and mezzanine might make this unsuitable for children under the age of five.

Paradise in rural France

A peaceful retreat in the Dordogne region.

A beautiful, comfortable and we'll appointed gite in a peaceful woodland area close to the attractions of the Perigord and Dordogne regions. Fred and Lana the owners are 'next door' if any help or advice is required, but are otherwise low profile neighbours. Supermarkets are within 10 minutes drive and further afield Cognac, Perigeaux, Brantome and Bergerac are all worth visiting. Also, have a freshwater swim, and a beer and buttie ! at the lake at La Jamaye about 10 miles away. We certainly enjoyed our time in Fred and Lana's gite and would happily recommend it to you !

This house has everything. It is located in the forest, where is it very calm. In the forest there are tracks for walking, running or bicyckling. Our hosts will do everything for you to have a great vacation.

Les Fougeres is a beautiful, excellently equipped woodland cottage.

The cottage, though feeling quite remote, is very well situated for visiting many local places of interest, with leisurely walks/cycle rides close at hand in the surrounding forest. A perfect retreat!

Relaxing and rural

We stayed for a fortnight and had a great time. The hosts, Fred and Lana, were so accommodating! It was really lovely to be able to sit on the verandah and watch the wildlife - deer, red squirrels, field mice, birds...good facilities, too: the utility room was very handy! For a bit of adventure, visit Bergerac and Bordeaux.

Fabulous

We have just returned from Fred and Lana's Gite, after having a wonderful weeks holiday. The location is superb, the accomodation wonderful. It was the most relaxing time we have had in ages. Fred and Lana were around when needed but did'nt intrude in any way what a lovely couple! We would recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of France.

Wonderful!

We have just returned to England after staying for a week in Fred and Lana’s delightful cottage, and cannot praise it and them highly enough. Despite Fred and Lana’s misgivings about letting us stay there during November in case the cottage wasn’t sufficiently warm, I can genuinely say that we were snug as the proverbial bugs in a rug – aided by Fred’s plentiful supply of wood for the stove, we were toasty throughout and didn’t need to revert to the electric heaters. The rural setting is wonderful – totally tranquil and there’s space and privacy to sit out in the garden. The cottage has been totally converted/renovated to a very high standard, thoughtfully decorated and then fully equipped (to English standards). Fred and Lana are the perfect hosts: they keep a discrete distance so you’ll enjoy total privacy, but conversely they’re only a few minutes away if you need anything. Access to/fro the Autoroute is easy hence it's a great base for discovering the region, but locally for a good day out try a spot of wine tasting/buying at the Cave in Le Fleix followed by the multi-course 12 Euro lunch in the Restaurant Les Oiseaux just along the road – after that you’ll just want to return to ‘your’ lovely cottage and chill… Trust me, you won’t regret staying at Les Fougeres.

Great cottage, lovely owners

We needed accommodation for a friends wedding and came across this little place...... Wow, absolutely lovely cottage with fantastic owners to boot. Fred and Lana (owners) done everything possible to make sure we were comfortable and happy all week, cannot praise them enough. The photos of the cottage really doesn't do it any justice as it's stunning, well equipped, cosy, warm, relaxing and very comfortable. Wi-fi and English TV were a nice added bonus. We highly recommend this beautiful peaceful cottage.

Perfect holiday retreat

We spent a week in mid July with both our elderly mums in Fred and Lana's wonderful holiday house. We had an amazing time, a beautiful , comfy house- both mums were over the moon! An ideal location for visiting beautiful old towns and countryside. Fred and Lana were really welcoming and interesting hosts and it was a pleasure to meet them. We would most definitely recommend this lovely holiday home, the only draw back was that we tried to do too much and should have just stayed put on the verandah!!

lovely peaceful cottage

Thank you Fred & Lana for making our stay in the Dordogne so delightful. The cottage has been built and fitted out ( by the owners themselves) to a very good standard. It genuinely is like a home from home. Standing in it's own land with patio seating on 3 sides it was wonderfully relaxing. Situated on the western side of the Dordogne, all the Tourist " must-sees" were still accessible as was Bordeaux and the coast. thank you again and we hope to visit in the future.

Absolutely Perfect Retreat!

We were honoured to be the first guests to stay at 'Les Fougeres'! The owners are a delightful English couple who couldn't have made us more welcome. The cottage is absolutely delightful and is very tastefully and comfortably furnished and very well equipped. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful woodlands in which you can either walk or cycle. There are colour coded routes depending on how energetic you are feeling! The variety of wild life and bird life is also breath taking! We took our bikes with us as we drove, but it's possible to fly to Bergerac (about 35 mins by car), hire a car and also hire bikes locally which will be delivered to the cottage. We stayed for a week but did not want to leave as it is such a lovely place and indeed - we have already booked our next stay! Thoroughly recommended!
