About Andrea Swanson
Welcome to the UpCountry Guest House. My brothers and I spent every weekend and vacation at the Upcountry home were we learned to love the outdoors. Our children have followed in our footsteps loving the area and becoming incredible winter athletes. We all love downhill, cross country skiing and ice skating as our favorite winter sports. Their have been 4 generation of skiers in our family who learned at Cranmore Mountain. My brother Doug or I will be your host.
Andrea Swanson purchased this House in 1950
Why Andrea Swanson chose North Conway Village
Welcome to the UpCountry Guest House. This beautiful center hall colonial home and guest house was built at the turn of the century. Our Austrian grandfather bought it in 1950 for our family to gather and to ski at Cranmore Mountain using the Alberg technique brought from Austria by Hannes Schneider in the late 1930's. Our grandparents had been skiing in the area as far back as the mid 1930's at a ski tow in Jackson at the Spruce Mountain Lodge. When Cranmore open in 1936, my grandfather and father where there for the opening day, along with all the other mountains in the area. The guest house has an open concept first floor that includes an updated kitchen, a cozy entertaining area centered around the fireplace and a dining area with beautiful views of the of the property and the Moat Mts. It has a large picture window at the sink that looks onto the fieldstone patio in the back of the property. It is tastefully decorated with antiques and a bit of memorabilia from the area. The upstairs has two bedrooms, a King size bed in one and a Queen in another. The bathroom has a traditional tub/shower combo. The guest house is on the left side of the main house attached by a breezeway. A family member will always be at the property to welcome you and to answer any questions regarding the area and the many amenities.
What makes this House unique
It is a quick few minutes walk to the charming village that has fabulous restaurants and boutique shops. The famous outlets are a few minutes drive south down Route 16. Cranmore is 1/2 a mile away, a great family mountain that provides many types of outdoor activity and entertainment. Wildcat, Attitash and Bretton Woods ski areas are 15-30 minutes north. There are many cross country trails throughout the area, rock and ice climbing, ice skating, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and just about any other outdoor activity you can imagine. The area is a winter wonderland! In the summer, there are several golf courses, lakes and rivers to swim, kayak or canoe. Also, there is the famous Storyland where our family has spent many days throughout the years visiting.

We had a very nice stay. It was comfortable, quiet and very close to downtown North Conway and local restaurants (less than a 5 min walk). The hosts were friendly and very easy to work with. We will certainly return and highly recommend it.

A great time in North Conway.
My family and I had a great time staying at this property in North Conway, NH. Being from California, we knew only a small amount about the area prior to our trip, but Doug was very knowledgeable and ensured that we had the necessary information to enhance our stay from dining tips to the best scenic drives to take. The accommodation and location were nice and just a short distance from everything. We hope to stay here again in the future.
It really is charming!
We had a lovely stay in this cottage, which is cozy and furnished with family antiques. Although there is no stove, there are clever work-arounds, including a 2 burner hotplate, a convection oven, a microwave and a gas grill.
Doug is an attentive and thoughtful host, with lots of good advice on restaurants and area attractions.
The location is perfect for visits to White Mountain sites. You can easily walk from the house to restaurants and shopping.
