About this property
Beautiful converted croft house with stunning views
West Cottage was built around 1870 as a typical croft house with a byre beside it but gradually deteriorated during the 1990s until it was in danger of becoming derelict. In 2007 the old cottage was stripped back to the stone shell; it was re-roofed and completely refurbished to a very high standard and a large living-room was built on the end of the old house on the site of the former byre. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation over 2 floors. The living room, kitchen/dining and double bedroom with en-suite shower are on the ground floor with a further double bedroom, twin room and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has well-stocked book shelves, a wood burning stove and a colour TV. There is wifi throughout the house.

We loved staying in this property. The history of the croft along with very comfortable accommodations and unparalleled surroundings made this an unforgettable stay.
We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The house was perfect. The hosts were wonderful. The views were lovely. If this place is available, reserve it. You will not regret it.
This was a lovely property. Our family of 5 was very comfortable and enjoyed the beautiful views. Helen was very responsive and helpful. I highly recommend this property for your next visit to the Isle of Skye.
We had a great stay! The pictures don't do the place justice, especially the view from the living room is spectacular. The kitchen was equipped with everything one might need and everything was spotless. The rooms are cozy and the showers hot with good water pressure.Check in was easy and the communication with Helen as well. All in all a great stay and we hope to come again!
We had the best stay in Helen's home. It is very comfortable, cosy, warm and the views - well they are spectacular. The kitchen is very well stocked. We explored all over Skye and then found that Knock Castle and Torabhaig distillery were on our doorstep. Highly recommend this home, we would love go back.
It’s all about the beautiful view from this lovely cottage! Everything you need is there. Also not in the busy busy bits of Skye so perfect to relax. We had great weather and no midges so can’t complain! Only thing would be, lack of outdoor seating, a sturdy picnic table across the track on the grass would’ve been perfect since we had sun everyday.
Helen and the croft cottage was simply amazing! The location was perfect, and the view from the living room was STUNNING.
We would absolutely stay here again.
Lovely property with beautiful views of the Sound of Sleat.
Our family had a wonderful stay at the little croft house in Sleat. The cottage, surrounded by fields with grazing sheep, was cozy, clean and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and included even a washing machine. The views across the Sound of Sleat towards the mainland were spectacular. Although Sleat often gets overlooked when booking accomodations on Skye, it is a great place from which to explore the Island and is within walking distance of the Torabhaig distillery. We highly recommend this cottage and will certainly try to stay here again in the future.
The cottage was wonderful. My wife and I stayed for 4 nights and would have stayed longer but for family commitments. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable was provided and the cottage was immaculate. The location was perfect, close enough to the road to be easily accessible but far enough from it to not hear passing traffic, all we heard was the occasional bleating of the neighbouring sheep and the tweeting of the birds. Having now discovered West Cottage as regular visitors to Skye and Lochaber we have added it to our list of, "we will be back" self catering cottages, if it's available.culate. stayccomfortable
Idyllic cottage with one of the best views of the Sound of Sleat. A peaceful haven away from the busy spots of Skye, and within reach of some of the most beautiful parts of the mainland like Glenelg and Sandaig. Great communication by the owner. My second visit and I will definitely be returning.
...and that includes two "luxury" hotels. Frank and Helen's space is wonderful and the perfect base-camp for Isle of Skye. Great kitchen (lots of extras in the pantry so look before you shop). Everything works perfectly. Quiet location, amazing views, beautiful mattress and linens, and the wood-stove and library were the best wind-down after longs days of hiking and fishing. We are deeply grateful to Frank and Helen for sharing their space with us.
We could not have enjoyed our stay at Helen's cottage more. Everything was perfectly clean, and very simply and beautifully appointed. The decor was calming and thoughtful. We enjoyed using the lovely Isle of Skye dishware, sitting by the fireplace in the evenings, contemplating the beautiful views of the sound in the large and window-filled living area. Helen provided excellent recommendations and clear instructions, and was a pleasure to communicate with. I hope we will have a chance to return someday! It's one of the prettiest places we have ever stayed.
We loved staying in Teangue at this cottage. It was very well appointed and extremely comfortable. The living room is spacious with a reading area and large sliding glass doors with lovely views across to the water and mountains beyond. There is a downstairs double bedroom with en suite bathroom, and two bedrooms and a shared bathroom upstairs. Close to the Armadale ferry - just 20 mins to Mallaig, and a short drive from Broadford. Nock castle is worth exploring - you can see it from the cottage and when the tide is out the shoreline makes for interesting rock pool exploration! Highly recommend!
Just out of the way of the throngs of tourists, this location is ideal. While we drove out to Trotternish and surroundings a couple of times, what really astounded us was just how gorgeous this part of Skye is. We had a fantastic time exploring the area, and would 100% recommend this location for ease of movement, access to all points of Skye, and comfort. Hosts were very understanding after I had trouble finding the key (my own fault! - didn't read all the details closely!). Kind folks.
