Cosy Swiss-Style Wooden Chalet in Aberdovey, Snowdonia with stunning sea views
Aberdovey, which is in the Snowdonia National Park, is a village of great character and charm, located at the mouth of the River Dovey. It is unspoilt and the small amount of development that has taken place in recent years has been carried out at the rear of the village thus not disturbing the sea front and shopping area.
The estuary offers excellent facilities for sailing and water-skiing, there being a public slipway. There is a superb sandy beach with sand dunes which is ideal for children, behind which there is a well-known golf course. It is possible to hire sailing boats, canoes, SUPs and to go on fishing trips. Windsurfing is now a very popular sport in the estuary and boards can also be hired. Kite surfing is also popular and local tuition is available. There are two public tennis courts, a pitch and putt and a bowling green.
The surrounding area provides plenty of entertainment for children on bad days. At Tywyn, just five miles away, there is an indoor swimming pool, squash courts, playground, cinema and the well-known Tal-y-llyn narrow gauge steam railway. The countryside around Aberdovey is reputed for some of its beautiful walks, Happy Valley being just to the rear of the chalet site. the famous Cadir Idris mountain is 40 minutes drive away.
The chalet is on a small exclusive site immediately at the rear of Aberdovey being some two-thirds of a mile from the village centre. It is on high ground and each chalet enjoys unrivalled views over the Dovey Estuary and South Wales. On a clear day you can see both the Northern and Southern tips of Cardigan Bay. The site is surrounded by fields and open countryside and could not be more safe for children.
It is a Norwegian pine bungalow, being finished to an extremely high standard with double-skin walls, floor and roof and double-glazing. Thus it is warm and cosy on a wet and windy day and cool on a hot day. The accommodation is as follows:-
Living/Dining room - this is a particularly attractive feature of the chalet as it is south-facing with picture windows all round and it enjoys fabulous views. Leading off is a large balcony which can be used for eating out. One corner of the room is used as a dining area with a large pine refectory table that will easily seat eight people. At night, the seats pull out and converts into a 4’6” double bed. The whole room is tastefully furnished in pine and bright colours. There is a colour television and a digital satellite dish in place, but tenants need to bring their own black box and viewing card.
Kitchen area - another corner of the living room is separated off to form a compact but practical kitchen incorporating a fridge, dishwasher, small microwave oven, electric cooker and masses of cupboards. It is fully equipped with cooking utensils, crockery, glass and cutlery for eight people.
Bedroom No. 1 - double bed with duvet, fitted cupboards. (Double blankets are available if required; they are stored under the dining-area sofa unit)
Bedroom No. 2 - double bed with good headroom plus full-length single bunk bed above also with good headroom, duvets, chest of drawers and hanging space. There is a cot provided (that would need assembling), along with an Ikea infants high chair.
Bedroom No. 3 - full-length bunk beds with good headroom, duvets, fitted cupboards.
Bed Linen, bath towels and hand towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. Please also bring with you a small amount of dishwasher tablets if you wish to use the machine.
OCCUPATION: 3 p.m. on day of arrival; departure by 11am at end of stay.

The Chalet is in a beautiful peaceful location but close to the town - so all basis are covered. The chalet itself is charming and had everything we needed. This is the second time we have stayed here and hope to return in the future

Lovely place above Aberdyfi. Spacious enough for 6 people, clean and has everything we needed. Alistair the host was very quick to reply to all our questions. The only thing to mention is that the bunk beds a small and more suitable for children than teenagers.
Family friendly well equipped lodge with beautiful views..Great for families. The only negative for us, as we were a family of four adults. The 2nd bedroom was not ideal for a 6ft 3” guy and we would have benefited from a 2nd bathroom. Otherwise the lodge was a great stay.
We had a great 2 night stay, perfect place to have some downtime and plenty of places to explore too if you wish. The cabin is well equipped, clean and comfortable with a lovely view. We hope to visit again soon.

This is the second time we have stayed in this chalet and both experiences have been great.
Very clean and tidy with plenty of space and lovely views across the estuary and out to sea.
Definitely recommended.
Beautiful setting for a much needed relaxing weekend
Our return to the cabin didn't disappoint!
We enjoyed a relaxing break in this well equipped cabin with a beautiful view.
We visited Aberdovey and walked around the nature reserves nearby.
We are already planning our return trip!
We had a good experience on this trip, we all love it, very nice place, (we had nice weather as well) the house was absolutely amazing, all part of house was clean and tidy. I recommend it for everyone who wants to relax on this amazing place.

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that the weather was kind. I’d be delighted to welcome you back sometime in the future so that you can explore some more of this beautiful region.
Very comfortable and cosy chalet with nice views and plenty of room. The chalet was very clean and very well equipped, although we had an issue with Wi-Fi dropping out after the first day. Overall a very nice stay, and if in the area we'd probably look to stay there again.

Dear Andrew,
Many thanks for the review and I am pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay despite the weather.
Unfortunately, the wifi is hit and miss due to the strength of the signal in the area. BT Openreach have been very obstructive towards putting in a landline which would improve the situation no end.
Happy New Year to you and the family and I hope that we can welcome you back in the future.
Kind regards
Alistair
About the host
Your host
Originally from Birmingham, i have been coming to Aberdovey for about 50 years and despite now living in South West London we still come several times a year as we absolutely love the place. We are an active family with a dog (and cat) who love being outdoors. For us Aberdovey ticks all of the boxes - massive beach, beautiful scenery, amazing walks, lots to do if the weather if good and lots to do if the weather is poor. The chalet is also very cosy and so we are also just as happy staying in doing jigsaws or enjoying a family movie and watching the weather roll in across Cardigan Bay.
