The Cannons is a spacious apartment pretty much in the heart of Southwold which is beautifully decorated, comfortably furnished and ideal for the perfect stay. Only downside is having to tear yourself away when it’s time to leave!
This was our second time staying at The Cannons and this time brought my parents. We love it here. Perfect location and a great space for two couples.
This is a firm favourite for us & no doubt we’ll be back again.
An excellent property for a short holiday with a toddler
We recently stayed at the Cannons with our daughter and 20 month old grand daughter. I chose it because of its open plan layout with no stairs once in the apartment and not too many doors. It turned out to be a perfect space for all of us. The bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a cot and having a separate bath and shower room meant that all needs were catered for. It is in a fabulous location with the seafront at the bottom of the road, the town centre a short walk away , a good kiddies playground close by and we managed to find street parking right outside the front door.I would recommend this property.
We visit Southwold every year and have stayed in a variety of properties (including The Blyth which is in the same building) and the Cannons was by far the best. Lovely size, well appointed, comfortable and in an excellent location, we loved it.
We had a great stay there for three nights. The flat was nicely proportioned, the interior design clean and simple. It was the kind of place you didn't mind spending time in when the weather is wet, windy and miserable, which it was for a day or so!
Third time we’ve stayed here, it just has a really nice ambience. Lots of natural light and comfy chairs/sofa. Great location for pubs, shops, beach. Only way I’d fault it is the lack of lav paper!
We’ve stayed in various properties in Southwold and this was by far our favourite. Perfect location and decor to a high spec.
Plenty of cutlery, crockery, and glasses.
Washing up liquid, dishcloth, tea towels and dishwasher tablets provided.
We have already been looking to rebook for the Summer.
Setting aside the lack of hot water and heating, which the landlord had warned us about but which was NOT fixed on the Monday (of a Saturday to Wednesday stay) so stayed that way throughout our stay, many little things spoiled the stay: no teapot, no spare toilet rolls (and the flimsiest possible toilet paper) , no spare rubbish bag, central living room light not working, heavy bang when doors are closed, missing cord from living room blind, curtains in both bedrooms very hard to close, heated towel rail not connected up . Shame, because it’s a lovely flat and well situated, and a little more attention to detail and better maintenance would have improved things immensely
This property is good for a few days away by the coast. We would recommend however a few things to be aware of,
Plentiful free parking however not always nearby especially for loading and unloading.
Neighbours can be noisy early/ late, coming and going as the front door slams and noise travels up the walls as does the noise from people coming up and down the stairs.
The baking trays, as per a review a while back, are in need of replacement and are a breeding ground for germs! Avoid or take your own.
Bed linen was crisp and clean and beds were comfy. Plenty of sofas and rooms were nice and airy although Patch on living room wall needs filling and painting!
Overall it suited our needs and was well priced for what was provided.
Easy and very comfortable from start to finish. Lovely apartment. Nothing awkward or fiddly to use. Though one suggestion I would make is having a bin for recyclables. We’ve had a fabulous time.
This was our third at the Cannons over the past few years. Perfect location and apartment 3 was a great size for the four of us (2 adults and 2 children).
Unfortunately, we found that the property was looking quite tired this time - very grubby/marked sofas and rug, used and marked cooking equipment, broken curtains etc. We also struggled to cook with the very limited (usable) pots and pans etc.
Great place, but definitely in need of some attention in areas.
Perfect location 1 minute walk from the beach and only a couple of minutes to the high street. Easy to pop back from the beach before going out to lunch etc. Didn’t use the car the whole time. Beautiful, clean apartment, light and airy. My husband and I and our 5 year old daughter loved our stay.

Overall a good stay
The property was clean, spacious, convenient location and getting parking was easy. Overall an okay stay.
It was really warm though and ventilation is poor, windows only open v little particularly in the main bedroom. It was uncomfortable at times.

Lovely flat, shame about the dirty floor
The property is beautifully decorated, in a great location and has very comfortable beds.
It’s just a shame it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Within minutes of arrival our socks/feet were filthy from walking on the floor. There was a mop provided but no cleaning liquid and to be honest i didn’t really want to spend my holiday mopping!
Baking trays and crockery all pretty grubby too. And there were no oven gloves. But there was a pair of someone else’s socks under a wardrobe (there still is, I didn’t want them).
I also think it wouldn’t hurt the host to be a bit more generous with toilet paper/bin bags etc. Just a couple of bags so we didn’t have to keep rubbish inside ALL week. Perhaps one dishwasher tablet per day instead of 3 for a week?
Honestly when I’ve spent this amount to stay somewhere for a week I’ve usually received a small welcome gift like a bottle of wine or local cheese and crackers, this host didn’t even provide enough toilet paper!
Flat info asked us to put the bins out but when we arrived (on rubbish day!) they were already nearly full. I didn’t think it was really our responsibility to drag 2+ weeks worth of rubbish from the whole block through the hall. Perhaps a better system needs implementing here.
We had a lovely relaxed weekend. The property was spacious and light. Areas could have done with dusting. We had a slight issue with towels but it was easily resolved. Only other suggestion is to include either a plug or washing up bowl in the kitchen.
