This was our 2nd time staying in Marc’s lovely place which is right on the Dordogne River with a stunning cliff backdrop. Marc and Jennie are wonderful hosts and this place has everything you need. We hope to return another time again.
Beautiful spacious 3bedroom 4 bathroom apartment with kitchen, dining room and sitting room overlooking the Dorsogne. Everything exceeded our expectstions. Our Host and his team were magnificent. We can’t wait to return!!.
The property was immaculate and very comfortable. Location was spectacular, nestled at the base of a lovely cliff side village along the Dordogne River. Hosts were most kind, leaving us an assay of local fruits and eggs from their home.
The host was there promptly to meet us and tell us all about the property
The outlook was amazing with beautiful views of the Dordogne River
The property is spacious but a little dated.
The bathrooms were plentiful, four in all.
However the water pressure was poor.
Overall a positive experience
Wonderful location in fascinating Roque-Cagneac overlooking the River.
Had a great time in this historical town. Good choice of restaurants within walking distance or a short drive. The property is well equipped with comfortable bedrooms and more bathrooms than bedrooms; a big plus. Owners were very helpful and very responsive to text questions although we didn’t have many.
For a group of 5 people spending Christmas in the Dordogne, we found the accommodation had everything we needed. On arrival Marc and Jenny, gave us a welcome pack of fruit, eggs and milk and were there to greet us and give us all the information we required. We spent a very pleasant 5 days relaxing and enjoying the local area. Perfect position for enjoying the area. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Superb!
The house is even lovelier than the pictures, with so many charming details: stone walls, wood and tile floors, extraordinary views. It's well located as a base for travel in the region as well as convenient for visiting this fascinating town. Shops and restaurants are a short walk away, and the Marqueyssac Gardens and several chateaux just minutes away by car. Mark is a kind and attentive host who made sure we had all we needed during our visit. An exceptional stay all around!
A big thank you to Marc and Jennie who are brilliant hosts. They were welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful . The property was spotless, spacious and very well equipped. The location couldn’t be better, beautiful views all round and a lovely terrace garden in which we enjoyed many bbqs. There were fresh flowers throughout the house and having essentials in the fridge and a beautiful bowl of fruit on arrival made us feel at home straight away . We’d definitely like to go again .
Marc met us at the apartment at 8 o’clock in the evening and showed us around. He and his wife came back in the morning with tips on internet and what to see. We prefer staying in traditional accommodations instead of modern hotels and this fit the bill. We had river views from 2 rooms and the rock wall from another. We enjoyed our stay here very much.
P.S. The bakery downstairs didn’t seem to have fresh products the 3 times we shopped there.
A lovely property situated in one of the prettiest villages in the Dordogne. Mark & Jenny are wonderful hosts, greeting us on arrival with a wonderful hamper of fruit and other essentials. The house is comfortable and very well equipped. we enjoyed a BBQ in the lovely garden. Restaurants and bars are right on your doorstep with a bakery next door. My only grumble is that the main road runs past the house separating the house and river. I found it noisy at night, especially on warm nights with the windows open. Also the living room has glass doors onto the street which meant passers we're always staring. A small price to pay for a lovely stay. I would definitely recommend it

Stunning location and exemplary host
We were a group of 5 traveling in Europe for a month. We stayed here for almost a week to enjoy the scenery, food, wine and prehistory of the region. Marc and Jennie went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Marc directed us to markets, local growers and even procured fresh trout for us from the local fish farmer. We had great conversations and enjoyed time spent on the rear garden area. The accommodations worked well for our group. Everything was clean, neat and comfortable. We will be back! The only thing I would point out to fellow travelers is that there are steps between levels with the sitting area one floor below the kitchen and dining areas. But—fact is—we used the dining area and the outdoor patio for our sitting areas and they worked perfectly. You could not find better hosts.
What a great place to base out of for visiting the Dordogne area…the cottage was perfect for us and our friends. It was very comfortable with a well appointed kitchen, living area to gather in and each couple had their own bathroom.
Also, Marc was easy to communicate with directions, etc.
Built in stone, Plume D’Oie sits above a Boulangerie in the Main Street of La Roque-Gageac. The best end of the street for sure. It spans 3 levels, the lower is a spacious sitting room with access to the street, the second is the main floor with master bedroom, kitchen and separate dining room and bathroom. The kitchen has access to a private outdoor terrace at the rear of the property. There is outdoor dining and seating here and a BBQ. You can also exit the property this way rather then go downstairs onto the street. The 3rd and upper level has 2 good sized bedrooms both with bathrooms. The kitchen is well appointed which makes it a pleasure to use. The location is spectacular with views over the Dordogne River and beyond. At the rear of the property the massive stone cliffs tower above with remains of an ancient fort as well as caves inhabited by the troglodytes in the past . This is a wonderful village to spend time in France. Our hosts were most obliging if we had any issues. We would recommend this property.
The house was spotless. The owners left us some eggs (from their chickens) and fruit which was much appreciated. Marc and Jenny suggested places to visit and responded quickly to all our questions. The location was very centrally located to all the sites we visited. Beautiful little town!
Enjoyed our stay. We were able to remain comfortable in the property during an historic heatwave in France. Location was central to all we wanted to see in the Dordogne.
Many villages in the Dordogne seem to come straight out of a fairytale and La Roque-Gageac is maybe the most magical of all (according to many travel guides, not just me).
La Plume D'Oie is in the heart of the village. In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast in the dining room watching the Dordogne river flow by. In the evening, we sat in the flower garden in the back trying the regional foods we bought from the market or just for a drink. The days that we did not cook, we tried the local dishes in the restaurants just next door or down the street. It was so nice and relaxing to have all these options so close by. We visited in early July and expected somewhat of a crowd but it was surprisingly quiet and we had no problem getting a last minute table at the restaurant for example.
Even for much of our sight seeing, we just stayed locally: hiking through the beautiful country side, renting a kayak, or just going for a swim in the river. When we did go out, e.g. to the Lascaux caves or the farmer market in Sarlat, the drive were easy as well as La Rogue-Gageac is quite central.
Last but not least, Marc and Jenny are wonderful hosts. They greeted us at our arrival and made us feel at home. They told us many things about the history of the house and gave us recommendations for shopping, restaurants etc. The kitchen was stocked with essentials and more (cooking oll, spices, coffee, fruit, butter, ...).
We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to be back in the future!

About the host
Hosted by Walker Marc
Following my passion for cooking I trained as a chef, In 1981 my wife and I purchased La Plume d'Oie restaurant in the village of La Roque Gageac. In 1991, we decided, to build the Auberge with 4 rooms to rent.
Why they chose this property
When the restaurant closed in December 2016 after 36 years, I decided to refurbish the auberge into a holiday home with 3 double bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and dining room overlooking the Dordogne along with a lounge which also has views over the river.
What makes this property unique
The unique architecture of the village by the cliff makes it amazing. Your stay in la Roque gageac will allow you to discover the surroundings which has so many historical references. It is also astonishing if you like to hike and enjoy nature.
