Your Georgian Bay Island Retreat (GPS coordinates: 45.567751,-80.423418)
Solklint is located on one of the 30,000 islands in the northern archipelago on Georgian Bay. The expansive cottage is great for a large or extended family or a couple of families to share.
The cottage is entirely yours, along with the dock, rocks, beach, water and island trails. Half of this 10 acre island belongs to the cottage. The other half is uninhabited. Parking, water taxis and boat rentals are available at Desmasdon's or Payne's Marina.
While remote, it's only 10 minutes away by boat from a grocery/hardware store, LCBO, coffee and ice cream shop, and take-out fish and chips. A canoe and kayaks come with the cottage and can be used to explore the many quiet channels of this famously scenic area. Fish for bass, pickerel, pike and musky.

Signy, John and their family were excellent cottage guests. Clearly loved our place as much as we do. Left the cottage in great shape. We hope you'll come back again!

Fantastic island escape!
We had a delightful time on this simple but beautiful Georgian Bay island escape. The owners are responsive, friendly and accommodating and the island itself is a wonderful place to get away from it all. We were a large group staying there and while the cottage is simple, it is very well equipped and expanded easily to meet our needs. The swimming is great and we took full advantage of the kayaks and canoe. We look forward to coming back soon!

About the host
Hosted by Ellen Kupp
We have spent our lives traveling. We met in Sweden when ABBA was big. We've lived in Saskatchewan, Washington state, the Yukon, southern California, northern England, Germany, Kenya and Ontario. We have both worked for an international relief and development agency which took us around the world many times. But we've called Guelph home for 23 years and now we have a spot in one of the most gorgeous places on earth.
Why they chose this property
We've been canoeing and boating on Georgian Bay for a couple of decades, always keeping our eyes open for just the right property. We love the area and the rocks and the water and the people. Also, our children grew up and moved far away. We now have something to lure them back every summer.
We fell in love with this cottage when we stayed there on the weekend of the super moon in September 2015. The moon rose over the bay while we were eating dinner on the deck. It was stunning. We made an offer the next day.
David is an avid builder. The other attraction of this cottage is that it is very solid structurally, but there are many ways to improve it. You'll find something new every time you visit.
What makes this property unique
The most stunning benefit of Solklint is the fact that it's located on an island in the northern archipeligo of the 30,000 islands on Georgian Bay. It has 1820 feet of shoreline. It lies on the eastern edge of the Canadian shield, amidst granite formations and windswept eastern white pine.
The community of Pointe au Baril is active and vibrant. Solklint is less than 10 minutes by boat from Desmasdon's Marina and 5 minutes to the Ojibway Club--a gathering point for the community in the area.
