About this property
La Tour du Chambon - the tower wing of a beautiful 1850's Maison de Maitre
Independent accommodation in the tower section of a renovated Maison de Maitre, dating from the 1850s, surrounded by 12 hectares (30 acres) of woodland and meadow, bounded on one side by a stream, creating a very tranquil environment. The property is situated about 1 km outside the pretty village of Brignac la Plaine and is accessed by a long private driveway. Accommodation comprises 2 double bedrooms (one of which can either be 2 twin beds or a king size double), each with its own shower or bathroom; fully equipped kitchen/diner with dishwasher and washing machine; sitting room with wood burning stove, satellite T.V, blu-ray and WiFi; separate W.C. There is a private and secluded outside space with covered terrace, barbecue, grassed area and parking. Behind the property are some caves that appear to have once been lived in and predate the house. We are happy to accept young children but the stairs to the first floor bedrooms are quite steep and therefor not suitable for anyone with reduced mobility and young children would require supervision. The nearest village, Brignac la Plaine, has a good artisan baker, a general store and a cafe. The nearest town, Terrasson(14km), is exceptionally pretty, sitting astride the river Vezere. Here there is a sizable weekly market, a choice of supermarkets, restaurants and bars, banks and pharmacies. The old town and the city walls are worth exploring as well as the Jardins de l'Imaginaire. The property is well situated or visiting the many local places of interest such as Lascaux, the Gorge de la Vezere, the many chateaux of the Dordogne and local lakes with swimming and watersports. The area is ideal for cycling and walking with varied terrains and beautiful countryside and there are opportunities for boat trips or canoeing on the rivers. There are 3 golf courses in the area around Brive la Gaillard.

We loved our stay at Le Chambon. It is a very beautiful renovated tower preserving the old characteristics. It must have been a tremendous amount of work. The rooms are neat and clean and the kitchen is amply equipped. We liked and used the canopy near the kitchen a lot. In the second half of the afternoon there was sufficient shade. The owners are very friendly and helpful and gave us a lot of privacy.
Very quiet and very nicely equipped gite in a lovely spot
We were a family of three, so this was a very spacious house for us - over 3 levels and the place would sleep 6 people very comfortably. Having 3 bathrooms was a real plus - all of them were very nicely equipped as well. The outdoor spaces were also very nice - private and quiet and very pleasant to sit in the garden for meals. The kitchen is also very well equipped - with about everything you could need for cooking. We had just a few interactions with the owners who were also very pleasant and helpful. The area is interesting - not far from Terrasson which is a pretty village for shopping and eating out - also has the jardins de l'imaginaire to visit. The other country areas are also very nice - Saint Robert and the hills surrounding the property are beautiful and very quiet even in tourist season. Would highly recommend and would definitely come back.

Dear Elizabeth
Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we hope to see you again.
Kindest regards Mark and Gill. (Sorry about the lack of commas. That key seems to have stopped working)
Merci beaucoup
The tower at Le Chambon is a wonderful base from which to see the beautiful Perigord countryside, its lovely villages, chateaux and prehistoric sites. Mark and Jill were lovely hosts, even offering us the ingredients for a first night dinner when we arrived late. The tower was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and had everything we could have asked for. Arriving back after a day out to be welcomed by the peace and quiet of such a beautiful setting was a real treat. Thank you so much for a fabulous holiday.

A beautiful and peaceful escape
My family and I had a wonderful and peaceful escape at Le tour du Chambon.
The Tower was in a beautiful and secluded area of the Dordogne, but only a 20 minute drive to Terrasson, with supermarkets and places to eat out.
The Tower was right out of the pages of a story book - my daughter said she felt like Rapunzel - with stunning bedrooms complete with balconies to admire the view and night sky. The living room was comfortable and the whole property clean, beautifully and tastefully decorated and well cared for.
The Tower was very well equipped, with all the amenities you could wish for, including games and books - we had many a pleasant evening reconnecting as a family by playing board games!
The Tower is within driving distance of Lascaux and other prehistoric sites of world importance, lakes to bathe in, chateaus and many other sites including caves and historic towns. We spent the week seeing some of the sites. but other days we read and relaxed at the property (on the sun loungers provided!)
This property is special - I will never forget the drive through all the beautiful countryside to get home after a day out, seeing deer eating grass as we drove up to the house, the seclusion and peace and the feeling of being completely at rest.
Mark and Gill are wonderful hosts. They live in the main house and we always felt as if we had friendly neighbours - there if we needed anything, but respecting our privacy as a family. Gill makes beautiful pottery - I bought an exquisite bowl and whenever I look at it I will always remember our special and magical stay!
In short, I can't recommend the property highly enough!

Incredible Place!
As I told our very kind host and hostess as we left this extraordinarily unique property, "I've never stayed at a place like this before, and I'm sure I never will again."
Start with the fact that -- in the world's premiere destination for early-man archeology -- there are two caves within a hundred feet of the chateau that people once lived in, perhaps thousands of years ago. In addition, the tower apartment is very modernized, clean, well-kept, pleasant, and nicely decorated. The setting is spectacular, with a 200 yard driveway leading to the chateau, which is attached to the tower.
This area is one of my favorite places in France, and this property is arguably the most authentic, unique, and most interesting places in the entire region.
Perfect for kids, couples, or anyone else!

A peaceful oasis in an interesting tourist area
We stayed for several nights at the beginning of July and loved the place. The drive up to the house makes you feel very baronial and when you turn the corner and see the house you are transported back in time. The 'Tour' is beautifully equipped and decorated with everything you would need on a holiday break. The place is spotlessly clean and the hosts, Gill and Mark, made us feel very welcome. They were a mine of information about the local area. We visited Lascaux IV (about 35 minutes away) which is a must-see and enjoyed a stroll around the very pretty, if touristy, town of Montignac. The local town of Terrasson (about 15 minutes away) has good supermarkets and a lovely old town on the hill overlooking the river. Go on market day to get real local feel. We loved going back to the Tour in the evening to enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine and cook a meal. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Thanks Gill and Mark.
