Thank you. Such a great house for a large party of all ages to enjoy quality time together while having space. Comfortable and quiet with lovely views.
A wonderfully happy weekend! Plenty of hot water for aching limbs after long walks, so much space in the house, we nearly needed a map, and a well equipped kitchen with one of the best and biggest kitchen tables I have seen. Thank you Chris!
The instructions provided to find the house and get in were helpful and clear. The house was large, with plenty of space in the lounges, kitchen and garden for us all. The house was nice and warm for our stay. Would love to return to this property
We hired the smaller cottage the house for 20 friends and family ages 2-60 and it was perfect, had all the facilities and equipment for our stay. The pool table and outdoor space was fantastic. Short distance to Bude. Great communication plenty of parking.
We had a lovely stay in Thurlibeer House. It was perfect for the whole family, 12 of us in total, lots of space and bedrooms upstairs and downstairs for all. Host was on site if needed but left us to it. Beautiful outdoor space. Would certainly visit again.
Lovely weekend away at Thurlibeer House with my family. The house was perfect for a relaxed getaway and although a little old and jaded in places it was totally in keeping with the style of the house. Ample room for 15 of us, bedrooms were very spacious and plenty of bathrooms so no one was left cross legged! Very easy to find somewhere to chill away from it all - I lost two daughters at one point! All in all a fabulous stay!
Brilliant property. Loads of room for 16 people. Big kitchen and 2 large lounges. Had a great time for a 70th party. Kids loved the garden and pool room.
Large house, comfortable beds and large kitchen that sat our large group. Stayed to have daughters 18th birthday celebrations celebrations here. Perfect for partying. Had a great time

Great place for a get together
Great big house in a lovely area. Enjoyed the garden, the glorious weather, the country view, the many rooms to absorb a group of 14. Only min point, you cant walk along the road anywhere, its too busy.
15 of us stayed at Thurlibeer and all enjoyed the stay. Being January we luckily had one day on Bude beach but table football & pool kept everyone happy in the stormy weather. All beds very comfortable and the house clean & friendly. Chris very helpful.
It is a large house with lots of different sleeping spaces/options. The kitchen table will seat everyone, games areas, two lounges ( one of which enjoys the sunset where we enjoyed pre dinner drinks), the views towards Widemouth Bay are amazing as is the sunset from the property. A fair price for the standard of the property.
This was our second stay at this property and it is one of our extended family's favourite holiday home.
It is a very large and well equipped house with a large private garden with views towards Widemouth bay.
Exiting the property onto the busy main road into Bude is a bit of a challenge as visibility is limited
accessible and friendly hosts, large house but dated, Not as clean as possible, cobwebs on lights in kitchen, dust etc behind sofas, and some light switches not working ( but taped off and highlighted by hosts), but nothing that distracted from an enjoyable holiday for the whole family, would book again.
Cheaper than most and fractionally dated in its decor but thats reflected in the price. Great value for money. Located so closely to Bude. The perfect base to come backbto each day in a quiet location. The main road is noisy but you font hear it from inside the property. Views from the back garden a beautiful (yes you can see the sea). Check in and out was super smooth too. No real bad points.
I could not believe my fortune to find this absolutely fabulous property and for the owners to work with my with many delays due to Covid. Had great parking for our little van/mini-bus which is a big thing sometimes. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us to spread out have have some privacy after smaller accommodations. The owner brought us over fresh herbs and wild garlic along with homemade apple juice which was a bit hit with my ladies. There was nothing I could say negative about this place. The kitchen was well appointed with everything I might need for cooking great meals.
Just overall an absolutely one of a kind place and great for larger groups!
We stayed here over the weekend to celebrate my husband’s 40th with a group of 11 adults and 7 children, and it was absolutely perfect. From the start, communication with Chris was excellent—he was incredibly accommodating and even let us look around the house a few weeks before our booking, which really helped with planning. The house itself is fantastic: spacious, beautifully located, and ideal for a big group like ours. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, two comfortable living areas, a lovely conservatory, and a huge outdoor space that the kids absolutely loved. The garden was perfect for them to run around in, and the little play area was a real bonus. The house is also really well equipped with everything we needed, and Den—who lives next door—was so helpful and kind. It was great having him nearby; he assisted us with a few things during our stay.We had such a brilliant time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone hosting a similar gathering. It was the perfect setting for a special weekend. Thank you so much, Chris and Den!
The size and facilities were perfect for us. Lots of space for energetic young children.

Good property in a lovely location
We stayed for 2 nights to attend a family wedding. The property was ideal as a base and had plenty of space. The only downside was that the beds were a little softer than we are used to and workmen started work on a new building right outside before 8am using very noisy diggers so not great if we were looking for a relaxing break.
Everything was fine but unfortunately there was no outside seating whatsoever apart from two hard benches. This was disappointing as my husband wasn’t very well and would have liked to relax in the garden.

About the host
Hosted by Chris Hunter
The owner, Mr Chris Hunter MBE, moved to the area in 1997 and purchased Thurlibeer in 2003. Since then he and his family have run the house as a successful holiday lettings business.
Why they chose this property
Thurlibeer House is situated in a stunning location with views to the West down to the cliffs, Widemouth Bay and the Atlantic ocean, as well as South down into Cornwall. It offers peace and tranquillity and at the same time is easily accessible from the nearby towns of Bude and Holsworthy. The cities of Exeter, Plymouth and Truro are all within around an hour's drive. The house was built as a gentleman's residence in 1920. When the owner Mr Sandry died in 1935, Thurlibeer became the farm house for the surrounding farmland, before the Daw family sold it on in 1985. Chris Hunter has gradually renovated and updated the house over the last 10 years.
What makes this property unique
Most of the house is arranged on the ground floor with three bedrooms upstairs. There is plenty of space, with lounges at opposite ends of the property so that guests can spread out and occupy different sections of the house if they desire - great for example for adults wanting some peace and quiet away from noisy children!
