It was a lovely, clean place and Barry was friendly and helpful. The stairs were a bit much for our elderly mother but we enjoyed it very much! An actual dining table was the only thing I would suggest adding to the furniture. Overall an excellent place!
We enjoyed our stay. Quiet neighborhood, easy to cook simple meals in the kitchen, laundry available. We didn’t use the outdoor equipment, but hosts had lots available. The space was clean and easy to get to stores, town area and highway to travel the coast. No A/c but lots of ocean breezes. Just to note that two bedrooms are on one side and share a bathroom and the third bathroom is on the other side with bathroom. For two couples it worked well. Thanks for the stay.
Overall good. There is a LOT to like about this place. Unlike in most places I have rented in the past, the owners leave a lot of the items donated by past guests in case they are useful to subsequent guests. That is cool. There is abundant sun screen, bug spray, sunglasses, tons of stuff of that nature that you will not have to buy if you forget to bring it from home.
The house is large and airy. And they have a pool table! But do not be fooled by appearances, especially where the pool table is concerned: this is not a party house. The quiet rules are strictly enforced and that is cool.
We had not looked at the house rules again since booking so forgot that the place had to be quiet by 11 pm on a Saturday night. This was unfortunate for us since we had returned from a wedding and wanted to visit more with friends, but understandable from the owner's perspective. I am not super keen on how things were communicated (owner sat outside on his front porch and turned visiting friends away rather than coming upstairs to discuss with us personally), but I suspect the owner wasn't too pleased with us having violated his rules, either. After I went downstairs to speak to him, I heard for myself that all the noise upstairs can be clearly heard outside and the striking pool balls are loud. In this quiet place, I can understand why the owner needs to keep these rules. By 11:30 everything in this quiet neighborhood was back to being...quiet. Bummer because we were having such fun at the pool table.
Check in was a bit unfortunate as well since we didn't get instructions on how to enter the property until I called VRBO for help the morning we arrived. I had not heard back from the owner although I had messaged him a day or two before arriving on Big Island. In my experience, access info is provided 24-48 hours in advance. I was getting worried that something had gone wrong.
Everything worked out fine, we appreciated the help from VRBO, and our stay was most enjoyable. Apologies to the owner for our lapse in following the quiet rules.

In our opinion, this was an overly self-entitled couple who felt they were above the rules and guidelines we set for everyone else. Our policies are clearly written in our profile because the last thing we want to do, as this guest would suggest, is to be put in a position to have to personally confront guests late in the evening with information they should all ready be well aware of. Her innuendo that we're somehow trying to "fool" anyone is absurd. Booked guests are informed multiple times that this is an exclusive, no-party/no event property and agree to these and other important terms before they can book. So we're not sure why this couple thought that it was OK, regardless of the level of noise, or of the consequences to the homeowner & neighbors, to invite 15 or 20 strangers into our home, half of which did not show up until almost midnight. If these people were truly "friends" of the guests, they would not have imposed, but rather invited the guests into their own homes to party late into the night. As the guest clearly states in her rather passive-aggressive review, they failed to "look at" the relevant materials, including the check-in data which is provided in advance to the guests automatically via their user dashboard. These guests have only themselves to blame for any problems which occurred during their stay.

A beautiful house with a great view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets. Close to shops and restaurants, you can’t beat the location. The house is equipped with everything you need and the beds were comfortable. Owners are super nice, would highly recommend this rental.
