The property was exactly as described and perfect for a week with our extended family. The host and property manager responded promptly to all questions. The location was great. We would stay here again.
This is a wonderful little cottage right on the lake. We loved the decor and the home had everything we needed available. Our family of four split the home with another family of four and there was plenty of room. Our biggest wish for the property was access to boats to enjoy the lake in the fall.
We loved our stay on the lake. The house is comfortable and well appointed. Great location, amazing dock and screened in porch. When we arrived the central air wasn’t working - Diane was super responsive and was able to get it repaired quickly. Highly recommend!

The house exceeded our expectations. There were eight of us and we all had enough space and were comfortable. The owner answered all of my questions a head of our stay. We met the caretaker when we arrived, and she was friendly and told us where to get some good corn and she was right it was really good. I would have to say the only drawback is it was about 6 miles to the closet grocery store
The house is very nice. The host was nice and allowed us to bring our 2 dogs so they can have a vacation too.The only thing missing is that there is no washer and dryer. It's perfect for a weekend but not if you're staying a week hoping to do laundry.

Seneca Lake waterfront property
Overall our family had a nice stay with 8 adults. There was plenty of room and a nice porch. Kitchen was updated but a washer dryer would have been helpful and we needed the fans as it was warm inside. Owner was accessible and as warned, the train was very close to the property.
House was easy to find. Bedrooms and bathrooms were sufficient for 7 women. Kitchen was well supplied with utensils. Could have used more dinner forks. Living area and dining area comfortably accommodated all seven of us. Rental was accurately described on VRBO. Owner communication was spot on.
This was such a great rental experience! Our group of 7 (men) had plenty of space for all of our gear, the house and property are both comfortable and full of character, which really creates the feeing of staying at a family cabin and not just a vacation rental property.
Some of the listing photos are a bit outdated; there is a nice large dining table (perfect for family meals or board games) and a large sectional sofa in the living room. There were a few gnats that found their way in at night (because it is a lake house in the woods), so if you are sensitive to things like this when renting, please keep this in mind as it is a reflection of the environment more than the house/host.
The home is positioned in a great location, right in the middle of the West Seneca wine trail, but it is tucked below the tree line and right up against the lake. The host was very friendly, communicative, and accommodating. The neighbors were friendly but not obstructive, and the proximity to Geneva was perfect for dinner out in the town. We all had an excellent time and the house was a major component of a memorable weekend trip!
Seneca Lake and the surrounding Finger Lakes region can't be beat for a relaxing time in a beautiful setting. We spent a week at this home with two families, including 3 kids ages 4-7. This property was fabulous. Communication with Diane was flawless and clear and she was very responsive the entire time. The home was very clean, had 4 bedrooms, and very easy lake access. Many homes in the Finger Lakes have lots and lots of steps to get to the lake, but this one had just one short flight of stairs to get lakeside, making it very easy. The screened porch was lovely to sit by the lake with coffee or wine. We made frequent use of the wood fired grill out front with a beautiful lake view. There is no washer/dryer which we were initially a bit concerned about, but found that we did not need this and enjoyed using the extra time to relax. They do have a large clothes line so clothes can be spot washed and easily dried. Finally, the location of this home is ideal. Easy access to Geneva, Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, and only ~1 hr to Ithaca. There are literally dozens of wineries within a few mins drive, many of which have fun things for kids. I can't say enough about it, see it for yourself!

Nice property but difficult owner
The property was decent, but the owner was a nightmare. She started sending us text messages complaining about previous renters before we even arrived. Throughout our stay, she texted us rules she thought we might violate. After checking out, she complained that we put garbage in the trash bin outside. Apparently, she didn't intend of having the trash bin emptied before the next renter and was angry when the next group requested the garbage removed.
Also, her webpage lists that pets are allowed, but she withheld part of our deposit because we had three dogs (we told her we had pets but never discussed how many). Not even sure how she knew how many dogs we had because we didn't see anyone from the property our entire visit. She must have cameras in the house. A very odd experience...

We have enjoyed renting our property for 20 years and have learned so much about guests and their needs always working to accommodate those needs.
It appears that this guest did not read the house rules concerning pets and thankfully my observant neighbors let me know that there were multiple dogs at the house during their stay.
As a common practice the house rules ask guests to contact me with their pet request information prior to arrival for approval. In this case that did not happen.
We have had to modify our guidelines given Covid-19 and to make it easier for our guests I share a situation from earlier in the season that it is helpful as we work to make renting safe for everyone with the virus. It appears that insight wasn’t helpful to this guest.
As is norm, garbage collection is the day before rental ends and it is normal that some debris is discarded the day of departure and this is not a problem. With this particular guest the garbage can was left filled the with what appeared to be cushions used for the multiple unapproved pets necessitating an additional pickup. This has never been needed before.
Finally, there are no cameras on the property. As shared I have fantastic neighbors who are often a great help to visitors given their passion for the lake and familiarity with our family home.
Please read our other reviews for an honest and more accurate review of our rental.
Hope you can visit Seneca Lake soon at Lakeholme.
Let me start by saying that I have never left a bad review in my life. Well, this would be the first.
We rented this house a few times both through VRBO and from owner directly. I stopped renting directly, because there was always an issue with getting the deposit back: there would be some fees withheld that the owner "forgot" to include beforehand, checks bounced, etc. Every time the owner would find a reason to call and complain about something - the "missing" extension cord or "moved" lamp.
The house itself is cute, however, far from being clean. I am shocked that some renters review it as clean. Under the beds, and on the top of the vent in the bedroom there is a layer of dust, the light switches have never been cleaned and are are black from hands touching them. Everything in this house is done the way so not a single penny is spent by the owner. Only one is operational in the kitchen, many outlets don't work. The water in the shower downstairs is barely running, to the point that it’s impossible to wash. The owner states that she doesn't provide sheets, but there is also no toilet paper, soap, dishwasher detergent, or hairdryer.
However, we do love the location and the lake, and were willing to deal with it. This time, however, topped it all. We came with 2 dogs, which, having read other reviews, I made sure to discuss with the owner prior to booking. I was charged more than double of the regular cleaning fee. Part of which the owner requested to send to her directly. I understand, no problem, the dogs do shed. What I don't understand is the frantic phone call from the owner that the house is full of dog hair and the cleaning lady is complaining. Makes me wonder how much of the extra cleaning fee actually ended up with the cleaning lady. How about the fact that we cleaned everything else in the house and didn't use one of the bedrooms? We had 2 10-year old boys with us. Alas, they broke one screen and a door handle in the hustle and bustle of us packing up to check out at 10, and the adults didn’t even notice it. Both items were very old (like everything else in this house), and were overdue for replacement. We apologized and offered to pay for it, expecting that it would be reasonable. Reasonable it was not. The owner then proceeded to harassing my family, calling, talking to us in the most disrespectful way, texting, disrupting my work and causing me anxiety. Stay away. Especially if you have kids. Or dogs.

I will be brief…..in 22 years of renting to over 400 families I will let my reputation as an owner speak for itself.
The real nighmare was these renters.
Owners: BEWARE
Our group of 8 adults and a dog spent a wonderful long weekend here and would definitely return. There is ample parking, lots of room to spread out, a nice flat yard for games, and a screened-in porch for rainy weather. We also loved the decor! Highly recommend.
We have rented two years in a row and love it. Side yard great for kids. New dock. Great area only 10 min from Penn yan or Geneva for shopping. Couldn’t be happier.

House on the Lake
Fabulous house right along the lake with a new dock on the water. We were attending a wedding at the Fingers Lake winery and my German relatives were absolutely delighted with the property, clean, comfortable and peaceful. A truly memorable experience for everyone. Only thing to point out was that the linens (sheets and towels) are not clearly indicated on the description and I wish I could have known….

The linens are clearly defined in house information!
Stayed at this property over a holiday weekend and we really enjoyed our stay. The house was spacious and had plenty of comforts for our group inside and out. Although during our stay the weather wasn’t ideal, the screened in porch provided a tranquil shelter to enjoy the beautiful lake view. The bedrooms also provide great views. Plenty to do in driving distance from the house and Dianne provides very helpful recommendations of the area and house tips.
Very much recommend this property.
Our only ask as we had a pet, 3 kids and husbands who got wet from fishing on Seneca all day, would be if the house could have a small washer/dryer unit in the downstairs bathroom. This convenience would have made our visit even more ideal.
Arrived on a Friday afternoon. The location on the lake was beautiful. The screened veranda was a very popular place for breakfast etc. Heard and saw a loon. Centrally located for winery visits on both Keuka and Seneca lakes. Only disappointment was shortly after arriving the upstairs toilet did not work well so to avoid any problems we used the downstairs bathroom. At times inconvenient but grateful it was there. The weekend weather was decent enough so my son and daughter-in-law rented some kayaks at a nearby outfitter and made several trips out on the lake.
Diane was very helpful providing information needed prior to the trip and was very responsive to emails etc. All in All, everyone had a very enjoyable weekend and everyone wants to return again.
There is no doubt that the location of this property is perfect. Access to the Lake was easy and the morning/evening view from the enclosed porch absolutely made our stay!
Dianne was easy to communicate with and was always quick to reply.
The kitchen was stocked with dishes, cookware and some spices. The property itself, however, could use some updating. It is a well loved home but suited our purpose fine. The beds were very comfortable and the breeze off of the Lake was very nice. The home is provided with games for entertaining.
Our only critique would be that for our visit, we encountered a large number of yellow jackets both in and out of the house. This could be a significant concern for anyone with bee allergies. Upstairs, there is a good size lip where the uneven levels of the floors come together. It is a main traffic area and seems like an accident waiting to happen for someone during the night trying to get to the bathroom. It seems like a simple strip of glow in the dark tape or paint would remedy the danger. Neither of these could have been addressed with the owner during our visit without a significant interruption to our stay.
Other than that, as I said, the location was perfect for all that the Lakes have to offer.
We have been going to different properties fir the last 7 years fir the Labor Day weekend thus place was by far the best
Only thing was the mosquitos we forgot our off so my husband and sister in law got pretty but up we did get some off which helped
Great place

About the host
Hosted by Dianne Masten
I am a retired teacher and love the Finger Lakes area. Over the years I have enjoyed filling the lake house with eclectic furnishings. Mother of five, grandmother of nine, it is a great family gathering place and my family has fond memories of time spent here. I am sure that you too will feel the same after you spend time here!
Why they chose this property
My family has owned the lake house for 19 years! We have enjoyed waking up to the sound of the waves from lake or riding a bike up to the winery for a bottle of wine! There is so much to do whether you are interested in boating, fishing, wine tasting, antiquing or just reading a book. You will surely remember your stay here!! We are thrilled to have families returning to rent for 14 years!
What makes this property unique
GREAT LOCATION FOR HOBART AND WILLIAM SMITH FAMILIES FOR GRADUATION AND PARENT WEEKEND STAYS!
