About the host
Hosted by Sophie Edwards
Sophie was fortunate enough to live and work in Central & Eastern Europe and Sweden and enjoyed a career in Human Resources. Mark ran a company providing IT support to small companies and worked throughout the UK and Europe. We had the opportunity to follow our dream in 2015. We searched for a home in France and were lucky enough to find the old farm.
Why they chose this property
One of the barns had already been converted in the 1970s and whilst it needed updating, it was habitable. We were able to move into the barn and concentrate on restoring the original farmhouse to create the gite.
There is a lot to do in the area and this attracted us to the property. The large, famous chateaux of the Loire are less than an hours drive away. But we prefer the smaller chateaux which are closer to us, such as Montresor and Valencay which are about 10-15 minutes drive away. There is also a steam train based in the village, and Beauval ZooParc is just a short drive away. The Brenne National Park is south of us and the bird watching is superb. The village is very well serviced with two boulangeries, a butcher, small supermarket, cash point, petrol station, pharmacy and a few restaurants.
What makes this property unique
The double height ceiling in the main salon shows off the original structure of the barn. We also love the oak staircase which was made for us by a local artisan. There is lots of insulation in the property and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. The ensuite bathrooms are well appointed with a large bath in one, a rainshower in the wetroom and a large shower cubicle in the upstairs ensuite.
