About this property

Uncle Johns Cabin in peaceful Valle Crucis - Hot Tub - Pool Table - Ping Pong

Located in the Valle Crucis area of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, this three bedroom, three bath log home is the perfect location for a family vacation.

Location: Located in the heart of the NC Blue Ridge Mountains, Uncle John's Cabin is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Amenities: Uncle John's Cabin is the perfect place for kids to have fun and for adults to relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare and enjoy family meals. Kids can enjoy the bottom level of the house, which includes a Smart TV for streaming, as well as Spectrum cable channels! This area also has a pool table, a ping-pong table, air hockey, an indoor basketball hoop, a dart board, a card table with board games for all ages, and a full bathroom.

Adults will love the open-air outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub, the herb garden on the deck, and the iJoy Robotic Massage Chair to ease away stress, tension and fatigue with only a push of a few buttons. A gas grill is on the large two-sided deck. Hardwood floors through the entire cabin.

Room descriptions: The large master bedroom on the third floor has a king bed, a 42-inch HDTV with Spectrum cable channels and Roku for streaming, an iJoy Robotic Massage Chair, and a private master bath. The second bedroom on the main level has a king bed and a 42-inch HDTV with Roku for streaming. The third bedroom also on the main level has a queen bed. The loft has twin bunk beds, a computer with a printer, a 42-inch HDTV, and a DVD player (no cable access on this TV). The living room has leather furnishings, a 50-inch HDTV with Spectrum cable channels, and a fireplace. The unfinished game area downstairs has a pool table, a ping-pong table, air hockey, a dart board, a foosball table, a card table with tons of board games for all ages, a single shot Electronic Basketball Hoop game, a Smart HDTV for streaming (and Spectrum cable channels), and a full bathroom. There is a short hiking trail from the hot tub area to the top of the hill, about a 20 minute round trip hike.

Neighborhood amenities: A public par 3 golf course (Willow Creek Golf Course) as well as a family picnic area, which includes picnic tables, swing set and slide. Just minutes away from all the shopping, dining, attractions, and adventures that the High Country has to offer.

History: People everywhere called him "Big John" or Mr. Rock, appropriate names for the owner's 6-foot tall, 265-pound uncle. Uncle John never went to college, well, yes, he did - for one semester, before being drafted by the Detroit Tigers to play professional baseball, yet he was probably one of the smartest businessmen of his generation. Everything he touched seemed to turn to gold. He was an organizer, a leader, a giver - and the most generous person many ever knew. Some of his projects include the building of a playground for children in his hometown and the installation of a huge glockenspiel town clock. Most of all, his generosity throughout the community of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania was known only by him and those he helped. Uncle John passed away in 2009, but the family is still hearing stories of how he helped people and organizations. His dream was to build a log cabin, which he did in 2006. The cabin is now Timberstone Resort and includes a huge lodge, several smaller cabins, a swimming pool, fishing pond and pavilion for weddings and parties. Phase 2 of this recreational area was in the process of being built when he suddenly had a stroke in early 2009. He passed away 4 months later.

Although Uncle John was not here to oversee the building of this log cabin, completed in July 2010, somehow we feel that he would have loved it here. The purpose of this special cabin is to be in memory of Uncle John. If you decide to stay at Uncle John's Cabin, we hope you will feel the love of Uncle John while you are here.

Uncle John’s mountain cabin .
Uncle John’s mountain cabin was a pleasure to stay at. We have been staying at cabins in the Boone area for over 30 years And we have certain criteria when we’re looking for a cabin. We like to cook in for breakfast and dinner the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Everything was clean which was greatly appreciate it. The gas fireplace it was so easy to just turn the switch And have a fire. Checking in and access to the cabin entrance was great. The game room was an added bonus and we used it every evening and then after some friendly competition we would hit the Jacuzzi we also appreciated The privacy the cabin provided another thing that is tops on our list. Thank you for letting us enjoy you’re beautiful cabin it was everything you said it would be an more.

Perfect for a little boy who likes to play games
The house is huge and makes you feel nestled in a lush forest. My 4 year old son didn’t want to leave the game room’s air hockey table. The hot tub and porch were mom and dads medicine.

Perfect September get away
We headed from the coast for hurricane Dorian and had a beautiful stay in Boone. We rode horseback, hiked, went to Doc's Gem Mine, and had a wonderful day at Grandfather Mountain. Didn't make it to Rock Dimensions but they are some of the nicest people you will find. Definitely will start there next visit! House was perfect for the kids and dogs. Thank you so much!

Wonderful retreat in a fabulous location.
Terrific spot for a family vacay, with big bedrooms, a lovely wrap around porch, and a well appointed kitchen. The game room is a blast. Easy drive to Boone, Grandfather Mountain and around.

Incredibly disappointing
My family and I rented this cabin based on the photos the rental agent and owner provided. Unfortunately, they were a total misrepresentation of the view from the deck. The cabin was secluded in the woods and the beautiful mountain views depicted where nowhere to be found. In addition, the only way to enter the cabin was through the basement or outside deck steps. The 16 step climb to enter or exit the cabin was extremely difficult for several members of our family. This should have been mentioned in the description. These two factors turned what was a greatly anticipated vacation into a very disappointing week.
