A large and comfortable and stylish apartment with everything we needed to cook and eat and relax. And in a lovely area with easy access to downtown and easier to the Blue Ridge. Really appreciated the back garden and the washer and dryer. And Marta is charming! If you are looking for a sterilized hotel experience this is not it, there was a little dust but nothing major and all important things were spotlessly clean. An ideal place for several days or several weeks!

Thank you for the review. It was my pleasure being your host.
This Airb&b, set in a nice suburban neighborhood, was spacious for the two of us and a close drive to all of Asheville’s attraction. We really enjoyed our stay.
Marta is a lovely host and made me feel very welcome. The apartment has everything you need with very thoughtful extras. I recommend this place very highly !
The property was as described and the host was very welcoming, including offering fresh picked blueberries from the garden. This is a central location for all of the activities that I was interested in - golf, hiking, food, other activities (right next to Municipal golf course).
This was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Everything was clean, was exactly as described. Marta was a very gracious host. Will definitely be going back here. Thanks again.
The apartment is a basement walkout, basically unchanged from the time it was created in the (I'm guessing) 60s...basic, yet comfortable enough. Martha is a caring host, wanting you to be happy!

What a wonderful, peaceful week!
Marta was conscientious of our need for peace and quiet, and it was like there was no one in the house but us, all the time. We had every need met, and everything we could want was in the apartment. It was also perfectly located near all the things we had to attend to in downtown Asheville and surroundings. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your wonderful review. It was a pleasure having you as guest.
Marta's place was such a cool, retro, mid-century space! Cool and comfy with all the things needed to enjoy the stay. Her backyard was a bird watcher's dream!
Marta was warm and friendly and went out of her way allow me privacy in her space.
Would absolutely recommend this place...unless you're super tall - it is a basement apartment with low-ish ceilings.

I visited Asheville for a weekend stay with a friend and this home was perfect for us. As we walked in we were greeted by friendly kitties and a beautiful garden. Once we were inside the home we found ourselves totally charmed by the vintage design features, particularly in the bathroom. The photos don't show the cute vanity and window. Even though the unit is a basement the space feels light, airy and clean. If you love a home with a unique character you will likely enjoy your stay here!
Sweet, very vintage basement apartment. All amenities were satisfactory. Streaming television worked well as did the wifi. My lone critique is a suggestion that it's time for a new bathroom mat. Tall people beware, this is a basement apartment with dropped ceilings, I think 7' in places. Parking was good, and access to the apartment was easy. I would happily stay here again if I were to again visit Asheville.

Great place, but with limits
Large, well-furnished, basement apartment in great location with responsive owner. Concerns were low-ceiling in the modern kitchen and shower - about 6' high, noise from gas furnace startup in winter, lack of thermostat access, occasional noise from upstairs residence and related privacy concerns. Apt is dark at night due to lighting and old school decor. Nevertheless this was a fun trip.

Thanks for the review. I appreciate the feedback. Some of the issues like ceiling height, I can do nothing about but I'll make sure to add more lamps in the future.

Liked: Check-in, communication, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness
Not for everyone but perfect for some
If you love retro and are not too picky about a deep clean and don’t mind the owner being above you, this could be a good choice, especially for the price. It’s a basement apartment that has all the original furnishings from the 60’s, I think the appliances as well! So, kind of cute, but due to the age, there’s ground-in grime that could benefit from a deep clean—cabinets, oven, refrigerator, baseboards, etc. If you’re sensitive to odors, then this probably not the place for you as it is kind of musty plus you get cooking odors from upstairs. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, and it was very quiet at night, so pretty good sleeping. The windows open, which is great if you like fresh air at night. I loved that. The a/c and heat are completely controlled by the owner upstairs, so you have to ask if you want adjustments.
One of the streets coming to the house is extremely narrow, and I almost had a heart attack when a big truck almost took my side view mirror off. Inches to spare.
If you have a smaller vehicle you can comfortably park next to the owner’s carport, but it’s a little difficult with a larger vehicle.
The owner was friendly, and the written instructions were clear. You just have to be comfortable with not having 100% privacy and being worried about bothering her.
I certainly do not want to dissuade anyone from renting here, but you do have to be able to tolerate all the things I mentioned.
My husband took pics at a destination wedding. First time trying VRBO. So glad we did. Very convenient to book, get to, and a very quiet neighborhood near a golf course and nature center!
The area is beautiful, the property lovely, and Marta was a kind and helpful host.
I was attending a hands on building workshop, and had been working outside in the hot sun, so, when I returned to the house I appreciated, and really enjoyed, the shower and slept very well in the comfortable bed! Thank you Marta!
We throughly enjoyed our stay in this spacious and clean, mint condition, vintage classic. Ms. Marta was an excellent host of this conveniently located gem. It is worth noting folks over 6'3" might have an issue with low ceilings. We are 6' and 6'3" and had no problems.
It was our first time visiting Asheville and the space couldn’t have been better! The space had everything we needed to make ourselves at home and Marta made herself available for if we needed anything at all. We took lots of walks around the quiet, lovely neighborhood and enjoyed the view of her beautiful garden. Would definitely visit again!

It was clean, quiet, and in a lovely setting, just what our family of 3 needed. Coffee, milk, and OJ were provided which was a nice touch. Marta was available when we needed her.

A Quiet place to stay.
We had a great time at this house. The owner was very hospitable. This was a very quiet place to stay and only a few minutes from downtown Ashville. Loved the 50’s themed decor. And spacious living room area. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, and Marta left us with milk and orange juice for our first morning! It was great to have a washer dryer also. The gardens out back were a lovey place to have coffee in the morning.
Do not miss the drum circle on Friday nights!

Hi, I'm from Habana, Cuba. I have been in the United States since 1968. I just retired after almost 20 years teaching English as a Second Language first in Florida and then in Asheville. I love hiking in the woods and being in nature. I take care of my body, love cooking vegetarian dishes and dehydrating vegetables from my garden. I belong to a conscious dancing community here in Asheville and dance at several times a week I purchased this home in 2010 from its original owner.
Why they chose this property
The property is a quiet delight surrounded by gardens. Near shopping, restaurants, downtown Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, and public transportation.
