About this property
Beautiful Large Cottage by the Sea with Hot Tub and Indoor Swimming Pool
Under new management as of April 2020
Dating from 1605 this beautiful home is one of the oldest houses in Falmouth. When it was built it was a house for sea Captains and rumour has it that the fireplace in the living room, which was a gift from one of the Captain's, hides a secret passage leading to Pendennis Castle that was used to flee from invaders... Nowadays it is a large detached home that has been lovingly restored to give it a fresh feel that compliments the original features and charm of the property.
The property normally sleeps up to 25 people across 12 bedrooms on 3 floors, however due to the new government restrictions, we are closing the top floor and half of the first floor of the property leaving guests exclusive use of the entire ground floor which has a double en suite room, a twin room following onto a double room with ensuite shower room as well as 2 bedrooms on the first floor, both doubles one of which is ensuite, and the main family bathroom with large bathtub.
On the ground floor there are 2 living rooms one of which has a beautiful wood burning fire, a games room, a large dining room, an indoor heated swimming pool, 3 outdoor areas and a large family kitchen with an aga that really is the heart of the home. Every bed is comfortable and inviting with 200 count Egyptian cotton bed linen, soft towels are also provided for everyone. All the rooms have been freshly decorated and feel light and airy whilst the living rooms are cosy and comfortable with large sofas to relax in the evening. The house is completely detached and set in its own grounds with 2 lawned gardens and a large courtyard that boasts an outdoor dining area and BBQ. It is suitable for all age groups as it has plenty of facilities to keep everyone entertained and is large enough that everyone has their own space. (Please see the house layout at the bottom) We have a 6 seater hot tub, a large indoor heated swimming pool with inflatable toys provided and a fully equipped games room with games table and board games. We have a large car park on site that can hold up to 7 cars and free Wifi.
We are situated just 300 meters from the beautiful Gyllyngvase beach where you can relax and enjoy the scenic views or for the more adventurous there are a range of water sports on offer such as paddleboarding and kayaking. We are in walking distance via the coatal path to 3 other of Falmouth's beaches - Castle beach, Swanpool beach and Maenporth Beach, all of which have activities available, cafes/restaurants and are dog friendly in the winter months. For the keen golfers there is a course less than 5 minutes drive away and for the less advanced there is miniature golf and pitch and put. Falmouth Town is a 5 minute walk away where there are plenty of pubs, bars, cafes and shops and restaurants including the famous Rick Stein's fish restaurant. The town is also home to the multi award winning National Maritime Museum which boasts 15 galleries, a 100 foot look out and an underwater zone. We are a short walk away from the train station so are easily accessible by car or public transport. Falmouth is half way down Cornwall's coast so is an ideal base to explore the rest of the county. The Helford River which is known locally as The Cornish Riviera and was immortalised by Daphnie Du Maurier is 15 minutes away by car or enjoy a water cruise along the river from Falmouth Harbour. Other famous attractions such as the Eden Project, Land's End, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Minack Theatre and The Tate St Ives are all easily reachable. So no matter what your interests, hobbies or holidays preferences there really is something for everyone!
If you are celebrating at the house for an occasion or you simply want to make your stay
extra special then just let us know and we can arrange to have things like champagne on arrival, Belgian chocolates in the rooms or a luxury welcome hamper filled with Cornish delicacies.
