Back to reality with a manic first week since our October half term break, we definitely realised how much the Beach House at Smugglers Cove was such the perfect place to get away to enjoy a much needed change of pace and scenery. Beach House was perfectly located and set up with great access to the beach, scenic walks and amazing views. The house was more than comfortable for two families, with the different living areas and gated deck/lawn areas making for a very family- and dog- friendly property. It was also fully equipped with all the amenities and necessities - both in and outside - needed to make our stay easy, entertaining and relaxing. We love to cook so self catered for most of our stay and then treated ourselves one evening to a delicious meal by Cornwall Chef Dave Sargent. The house offered so much to everyone in our group, and even better to each in their own time. Charlotte was an excellent host... welcoming with her pre-arrival info pack and surprise hamper and doggie treats, professional with her quick responses and lovely nature. Thank you Charlotte for our great holiday and wonderful stay your Beach House!
Perfect location tucked away but on the beach
Beautiful home, clean and modern with all the amenities you'll ever need. Perfect for a romantic getaway to watch the sea and sun right from the bedroom or kitchen no matter what the weather.
The hot tub was located overlooking the beach where we relaxed for hours .
No complaints. Just a word of caution about the very narrow lane to get to the house.
We will be back and can't wait !!
Amazing property in an out of this world location!
Beach House is an amazing property, with everything you would want for a holiday by the sea. Charlotte and Joey have thought of everything with stylish interiors and fabulous garden leading down to the beach. From the moment you open the front door you are blown away by this property. The views of the beach and sea are sensational and the landscape changes every day. Charlotte was really helpful and responsive and no question or hiccup was an issue. If you are looking for an out of this world experience in the UK then Beach House is for you.
Key points regarding our holiday experience:
a) Lovely house
b) Fantastic location, right on the beach
c) Caring host, who responded quickly to problems
d) Short-term issue, with building works in connected property
The overall experience at the Beach House was really good and we all had a great time. However, building work on the apartment above was only advised a few weeks before our holiday and left us with little alternative elsewhere. Charlotte gave us a partial refund for the minor inconvenience but being woke up by builders at 8am every week day is not minor nor is the hammering and drilling going on throughout the day. There is not a lot she could have done about this but what was more disappointing were a few of the other issues that should be sorted and definitely within her control. The electric to the outside lights by the hot tub and fire pit areas were turned off earlier in the year due to a leak and whilst this was raised with her on Saturday, the first morning after our arrival, it wasn’t sorted until the Tuesday which meant that we couldn’t use those areas at night as it was too dark to walk safely. We then had the electrician join our holiday for a few hours on Tuesday which isn’t ideal either but then it was someone different to the builders on the roof above.
Also outside there are a lot of weeds which need attention around the paths and in the driveway and the the plants near the outdoor games area need trimming as we had to walk around them during our stay. There was also a present left by a previous dog down by this area which should have been spotted during the clean up between guests. This brings me nicely to the intensive clean inside which whilst didn’t feel dirty there was a smell of dog in the room on arrival and squashed flies on the wall in the bathroom we were using. We also had problems connecting to the Sonos speaker systems but Charlotte came to see us on the Monday to sort this and do feel that this was quite a bit down to us but probably could be explained better in the house book. Previous guests had not followed the bagging up rubbish instructions so the bin store needs tidying up as I guess the refuge collectors will only pick up sealed black bags.
This all sounds a bit negative but I have scored it quite high on the reviews as we did have a lovely time. The house is in a beautiful location with easy access to the beech and the facilities are excellent. The builders being in the apartment above were an issue but the other problems that we incurred should have been picked up before our arrival and as these are all easily resolved then I’m sure future guests will have a fabulous time too and without our frustrations.
Wonderful location and beautiful accommodation in a very well appointed house. Lots of thoughtful and personal touches. Magical evenings surveying “our” bay from the hot tub, including daily visits by the 2 seals in residence. Thank you.
Wow. Charlotte has literally thought of everything that would make your stay at this property amazing.
Everything has been thought out so well.
So many different areas to sit outside, the private steps down to the beach was a wonderful bonus.
The outside shower to rinse sandy doggys and children off from the beach before entering the house.
The hot tub over looking the sea.
The fire pit, the out door sound system.
The massive t.v and PlayStation & switch in the cinema room.
Every thing you need for your stay is provided.
We had some special birthdays and when we arrived we were greeted with champagne, cake, scones & accompaniments & pasties.
Charlotte had even made up treat bags for our dogs.
We were a family of 9.
Youngest being 8 to the eldest at 71. All had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
We would love to return to this house in the future.
A beautiful home which has been put together with so much thought and love. We had a perfect week and a holiday we'll never forget. Thank you Charlotte.
This house has the most fantastic position, in a small cove with a few houses, literally on but above the beach (with a private gate onto the beach) so noone notices you are there from the beach. The outside eating area is just above the beach and we ate every meal there watching the different things going on at the other end of the beach from Ironman training, lifeguard training, rowing races and the seal/s every day in the sea. Ditto the hot tub (it gets cleaned out between guests so takes a little time to warm up), great after a long body boarding session with your book and a cup of tea or at night with a drink - dreamy! It did not feel like Cornwall but somewhere in the Med with the 6 sun beds, the firepit, the hammock and the kitchen that opened up to let all the sun in. The 2 huge televisions were very useful as we were watching England win the Cricket World Cup and also the Wimbledon Men's final and for the grown up (?) kids watching Love Island at night. Charlotte was always at the end of a telephone if we needed to know anything. She is very proactive and so helpful! We would definitely go again!!
The Beach House is simply exceptional.
The decor is to an extremely high standard with every mod-con you could possibly want; from Alexa piping music to 'zoned' Sonos speakers throughout the house and garden to Wetsuits & Bodyboards in the summer house.
The only downside was that . . . one week was just not long enough!! :-)))

About the host
Hosted by Charlotte Auger
Charlotte & Joey Auger - I live in Lelant, Cornwall with my new husband, and 2 dogs. We have been renovating run down properties to beautiful standards in the 10 years that we have been together, and we take pride in offering the most exquisite homes available to holiday let. Our homes are all dog friendly, and have every little detail you can think of to make your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. My partner Joey is the builder, and I am the marketing side of things - He talks, I type, that's how we work!
Why they chose this property
There are not many properties in Cornwall, or ANYWHERE with direct beach access, especially of this beautifully high standard, with all the luxuries you could think of, including a cinema room with PS4 and Nintendo Switch, a fire pit over looking the beach, and a hot tub also above the sea. There is a Sonos sound system in all the main areas, and bedrooms, and there is underfloor heating in every room and hallway.
What makes this property unique
The main unique benefit of Beach House, in my opinion, is the private gate that opens up on to the sandy beach of Portreath. Smugglers Cove side is very private, with minimal visitors, most don't even know it exists! The hot tub is pure bliss, over looking the beach, but still kept private with a specially designed wooden privacy screen. The cinema room is an added bonus too, as adults can relax in the lounge, whilst the younger ones play games or watch movies in there (Or the other way around!) meaning no one has to compromise on what they want to do. There is so much space outside that again, you could have the dogs playing on the grass, someone on the hammock, others sipping wine in the fire pit, someone else in the hot tub, and even some people sat at the table eating nibbles and chatting - There is no chance of stepping on each others toes here!
