This is an attractive Grade II-listed, colonial-style house located in the historic part of Braunton, within an easy walk of the village centre. It is reputed that Prime Minister William Gladstone stayed in the property whilst visiting relatives; now, it’s a characterful base for a family of six looking to explore the spectacular North Devon coast.
Decorated in a refined, modern style, the accommodation is spacious and relaxing. The front door opens into the attractively furnished, open-plan living/dining room/kitchen. Relax on the comfy seating in front of the ornate fireplace and admire the historic church through the bay window, or fire up the wood burner for a cosy evening in. The dining area is separated by comfortable sofas, and to the rear is the newly fitted kitchen area and a small utility room. From the kitchen, through a low doorway, is a separate handy wet room. Stairs lead up to the landing where there are two bedrooms: a double across the unique bridge walkway and a king with an en-suite. Please note, the balcony is for decorative purposes only. From the landing, there are steep stairs to the second floor where there is a snug room with a low ceiling and a TV, where older kids can enjoy their own social space. Also on this floor is a bathroom (reduced head height) and a third bedroom with twin beds. On sunny days, relax outside at the table and chairs, or in the rear courtyard room with its raised gravel terrace and outdoor seating.
Braunton is a popular village and the centre is accessible via the nearby, level Tarka Trail cycle path, so you can easily walk or cycle to a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants (less than 0.5 miles). Close by are the magnificent sandy, surfing beaches of Saunton (3.5 miles) and Croyde (5 miles) whilst slightly further afield are Woolacombe Bay (7 miles), the harbourside at Ilfracombe (9 miles) and Exmoor National Park (12 miles), all offering memorable days out.

We stayed for Easter weekend and had a lovely time. The house was big enough for a family of 5 and had everything we needed. Parking is an issue but that’s like everywhere else around Saunton Sands. Would definitely recommend.
We loved staying at Gladstone House, our 3 grandchildren joined us for a few nights and they loved exploring the unusual layout - over the ‘bridge’ to the double bedroom , the ‘secret’ staircase to the self contained apartment which our birthday boy had sole use of.
The house had everything we needed and was more like a home from home. We promised to book again for the next boy’s birthday in November.
