About this property
Space suitable for families, with gardens, vegetables and seasonal fruit
The farm
A wooded spot, with 5000 m2, with three buildings of typical rural architecture, where the enormous stonework chimneys in the form of “folded hands” predominate and the cycles and contours of doors and windows also in stonework. Regional roofs of reddish color with tiles made of clay. Stonework balconies and staircases;
A car park, with red bagacina flooring; Two endemic gardens and plants, with cubed floors of basaltic stone; Seven lawned spaces;
A turret (viewpoint) all covered in rustic stone, with access staircase in red volcanic tuff, from where you can enjoy a beautiful landscape over the city of Praia da Vitória with its vast beach and the Serra do Cume;
Houses for domestic animals (chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits and birds), with rustic stone walls and regional tile roofs;
A barbecue covered with red stone and covered with regional tile; A threshing floor (10 m diameter round) with bench and stone walls and with a saber floor (cream colored earth);
Spaces for cultivating fruit trees (figs; orange trees; loquat trees; lemon trees; peach trees; banana trees; etc.), and vegetables (potatoes; broad beans; cabbages; cabbages; onions; beans; garlic; turnips; lettuce; etc.) , intended for self-consumption, including apartment customers;
Self-delimiting and dividing walls, all in rustic stone and access with stone floors, bagacina and dirt;
Spaces with various types of shade trees (araucaria; metrosideros; beech trees; plane trees; laurels; weeping; etc.); ornamental plants and flowers (hydrangeas; cardinals; azaleas; jars; carnations of hope; strelicias; orchids; dahlias; etc.), creating an inviting environment for leisure and reading.
History
Belonging to a wealthy rural family, the Quinta has been the scene of multiple uses throughout its existence for more than a century.
In addition to housing, it served as a self-supporting economic center. The cultivation of corn, its transformation into flour and then into bread, in wood-fired ovens; milk production; their skimming and transformation into cheese and butter; the production of grapes and their transformation into wine; the capture of rainwater and its storage in cisterns; the production of fruits, namely figs and their use, sometimes fresh, sometimes dried, sometimes in homemade sweets; poultry and egg production; the production of pigs, their slaughter and storage of meat in clay containers (salting machines) and the production of an immense variety of vegetables and flowers, were the result of hard work where the time was between sunrise and sunset - Sun.
In addition to the practice of a self-sustaining economy, the Quinta's three buildings served as a commercial establishment (where some of Lisbon's newspapers were posted for information to the local population, namely during the 1914 war); as a primary school; milk skimming station and even as a military barracks.
Today, adapted to the practice of rural tourism-country house, keeps the signs of its history alive.
