This is a great place! Being right on the beach is awesome! It was very clean and the kitchen was full of utensils to use! The small drawback is the bedrooms and the walkout floor to the beach are quite small. But that is easily overlooked by the awesomeness of this place.
My family has rented this property for a number of years now and always enjoy our time. Plenty of space and amenities for all. We were blessed with great weather, which always adds to vacation time. We will do it again!
The house is amazing! So much space for people to sleep. Everything was clean. The only suggestion that I would have is to have more bar stools to be in the kitchen for people to sit around. I know the island is small but people still always congregate in the kitchen and it would be nice to have more bar stools!
The location, house, and weather was everything we wanted it to be! It was a glorious time for our family to come together in one place. Lots of laughter and love was shared by all!
We had a great time at this house. It was updated, spacious, and perfectly located on the beach and water. Perfect for a group of 10+ with many bedrooms/space. I will be looking forward to renting it again!
Fantastic house. Great beach - large, clean and not crowded. Home had everything you’d want or need.
Todd was fantastic. Quick to respond and attentive. Have been going to Michigan City/Long Beach for years. This was the best home we’ve rented. Great house for large groups.
We have rented this property before. Great house for lots of adults-meaning lots of bedrooms. The house layout is open and simple. Great view of the lake from the multiple decks..
Plan to rent again.
This was our 4th year enjoying this property. We love the openness of the floor plan since we like to gather in the mornings for our coffee. The multiple floors allow each family to have an area of the house with their own bathroom and bedrooms. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The house is also well stocked with beach items like chairs, places to wash your feet off, and a lovely wood walk to get to the dune. The walk to the beach was a walk in nature-birds, deer, and rabbits (an eagle in the distance). The beach was clean and big-lots of sand. We love this house and always enjoy our stay.
This house was perfect for our large and active family. With lots of space to spread out in the house and everything we needed for those few days (from pots and pans to toilet paper) in good supply, it suited our needs well. We loved the long table, enjoyed the porches, and had lots of fun with the paddle boards. We also liked the location --it's a full but not too noisy neighborhood, right on the beach, close to a sweet little coffee and ice cream place down the road and other activities within short driving distance. Thank you for a great stay!
This property accommodated our group of 18 very well! The main floor was perfect for a crowd, with an extra large kitchen table; extra table for puzzles and games; sufficient plates, silverware, etc.; multiple seating areas; and spacious deck with lots of chairs and tables. The location was amazing, with a short walk down to a beautiful beach and an hour and 15 minutes to downtown Chicago. The main floor of the house was large, comfortable and modern, although the kitchen lacked a place to put dry food which was a little challenging. The upper floor was fine; bedrooms were basic and clean and the bathrooms were nicely done and modern. The bonus room above that was great for our teenagers and younger cousins! The spiral staircase to get up there is not for the faint of heart but the kids were not fazed in the slightest; if anything it added to the fun! The basement rooms were really just a place to rest at night, which was fine for our group because all of our waking hours were spent on the main floor, on the outdoor decks or on the beach! The basement rooms could use some sprucing up for sure, but I would say they are as advertised. If there was any downside to the house I would say that many in our party found their mattresses to be uncomfortable. Otherwise though we had an amazing time and would definitely come back if we lived closer! I will also mention that the owner/property manager (not sure who I was talking to) was extremely responsive and helpful!
This house was absolutely PERFECT for our large family reunion. We had 4 couples and 11 offspring ages 5 - 25. We have rented other places in the same general area that fell short on one dimension or another but this listing met all of our needs. The kitchen is well equipped and open enough for multiple cooks to maneuver around. The dining table seats absolutely everyone at the same time! Two spacious and comfortable living room "zones" on the main level made reading, games, puzzles and napping easy. The top level "attic" bedroom is gigantic with plenty of room to play (and sleeps 7 in beds!). We put the girls up there and the boys in the basement bunk rooms. One word of warning though - don't pack a huge suitcase and think you'll get it up to the top floor. The winding staircase is very narrow!
2nd refrigerator on the basement level was a godsend. A grill that runs off a natural gas line is awesome! Never run out of propane again!
Bathrooms are all freshly renovated with lots of storage for personal junk. We never ran out of hot water.
You are directly on the beach - a rare thing in these parts! The views from the decks are stunning. On-site parking for 4-6 cars (depending on their size) is virtually unheard of in this neck of the woods. We were there in December so cannot comment on the summer beach scene or the local traffic. Shopping is close by.
The one minor complaint was that the bedrooms got chilly. (Mind you, we were there in winter). The house has great heat and multiple thermostats, but the design naturally draws the heat up the top level (which was always toasty warm). Not a problem until you close the bedroom doors on the 2nd floor and the wind is blowing against the windows. Also, heat was a challenge on the basement level, where the heat that is generated is at ceiling level so the floors are cold. The young boys could endure it. But an adult in one of those three bedrooms might wish for a space heater. Consider bringing extra blankets or sleeping bags if you are coming in winter.
When we arrived we were shocked by two things: the breathtaking views and proximity to the beach, and the general uncleanliness of the entire property. I’ll start with our issues and end with the good parts.
There was pink mold in the showers and in the shower curtains. There were spiderwebs and bugs in many places. It seemed like the property hadn’t been cleaned for a while. There was a bad smell in the basement bathroom. The pots and pans hanging from the ceiling were not cleaned and tracked in a lot of flies. It was really gross. The furniture is not as it is in the photos. The basement bedrooms and the basement bathroom do not lock as they have barn doors. If you have anyone in your party that is claustrophobic do not put them in the basement because those rooms are very small. We were not misled or anything about the size of the rooms In the basement by the listing but we were still surprised. We called VRBO right when we arrived trying to cancel our booking For these listed reasons(minus the small bedrooms size) but they didn’t help us even after sending photos because it had to be in terrible condition for them to refund us. We contacted the owner and he sent someone out who didn’t really help with any of our concerns and denied a smell in the basement bathroom. We tried communicating with the owner after we checked out but he kept saying since we didn’t complain of everything during the stay, and that he won’t give us a partial refund, but we actually did complain to the cleaning lady when she came to check the property. The owner is a very nice guy but he needs more reliable staff so he can serve his customers better. The other reviews are amazing so I’m assuming this is just a glitch experience. I’m hoping the owner gets a new cleaning staff for the next customers!
Now for the good stuff. The house is spacious enough for 18 people to cohabit comfortably. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals. The bathrooms were updated which made the experience better. The upstairs bedrooms were a nice size and comfortable. The spiral staircase to the loft room is good for kids not for adults. The three balconies were amazing to have. When we went to the beach in September we were basically the only people there which was great. It was very easy communicating with the owner despite not agreeing on one major thing, I have to be fair because we still did have a good time despite the great stress of dealing with the uncleanliness.
Felt the property was clean, well appointed, just as we expected. Some exterior lighting on the deck would be helpful. Hard to see the stairs going down. Multiple deck boards broken and a safety hazard on the deck path to the beach. Overall enjoyable.
Amazing home on the beach! 5 bathrooms with shower or tub was a luxury for family and appreciate the communication with the owner. We will definitely stay there again!
Great property for our family get together. Easy foot path to the beach and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our group of 5 adults and 8 kids. We appreciated the amount of dishes, silverware, cookware, and utensils available in the kitchen. Check in was simple and property was clean. The spiral staircase was a bit tricky to navigate with luggage, and none of our kids were quite comfortable with climbing it, but I imagine older kids and teens would enjoy it. We would definitely stay again.
Our whole extended family enjoyed a wonderful stay at this spacious house with the beach just a short walk away!! It was perfect. The two fridges were a must for us as well as the outside shower and HUMONGOUS dining room table. It was awesome.
This is the perfect house for a large group. We had 16. You walk out the back door to the beach which was pristine and private. We all enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
