About this property
Private pool, & large garden - 100m from beach, tavernas & shops in Almyrida.
Villa Almarine is so close to the sea you can practically taste the salt! The only property of its kind in the northern coastal village of Almyrida, this villa contains two fully equipped self-contained apartments and is just steps from the translucent Aegean Sea. Encased in emerald lawns and shadowed by the imposing White Mountains, this spacious and versatile partial sea-view villa -- which is rented in its entirety -- sits at the lip of a short winding lane that expediently leads to a lovely horseshoe-shaped beach rimmed with charming tavernas, open-air cafes and bars and a selection of curio and convenience shops. Its distinctive “separate but equal” layout affords the unique opportunity for friends, single families, or two families vacationing together to enjoy a shared experience while maintaining privacy - making it a very popular choice for groups seeking independent living quarters in a communal environment.
Set on an expansive 2000 square meter plot laced with leafy grapevines, vibrant trellis-entwined rose bushes, lemon and ficus trees, its swimming pool is embroidered by a wood effect tiled patio laden with sun beds and umbrellas, picturesque peaks looming in distant grandeur. A large cypress wood vaulted ceiling summer house features a brick barbecue and a wood burning pizza/bread oven alongside a ten person dining table while the wraparound decks and wide balconies that skirt the home’s bi-level perimeter further encourage many hours of outdoor leisure.
Fully enveloped by a stone wall, an iron electric gate unveils a large parking area, whilst the adjacent decorative pedestrian entry gate opens to a grass-flanked stone walkway that precedes the home’s separate entrances. The two bedroom downstairs unit is fronted by a large tiled patio while a twelve step iron bannistered staircase ascends to the three bedroom top floor apartment which is also bordered by a wide and shady tiled veranda.
Inside, both wood ceilinged airy units are gifted with abundant natural light streaming through walls of windows and supplementary back and side doors, open-plan living/dining/kitchen areas, and comfortably-appointed bedrooms. Add to this the duplex home’s gracious outdoor living sectors and bountiful amenities and it’s clear that Villa Almarine exists as a most hospitable and convenient multiple or large family/group accommodation option.
*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.
The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
In 2024: €10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.
In 2025: €15.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.
The Vrbo system does not have a section for collecting the Climate Resilience Levy and we have, therefore, had to add it to the billing section as an extra fee which will show on the booking as a Host Fee or an administrative fee).
Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.

About the host
Hosted by Villas Crete Holidays
Almarine is exclusively booked by Villas Crete Holidays which is a registered Tourist Office, based in Hampshire, England and Almyrida, Crete. Whilst most travel companies/agencies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoronas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania. The Apokoronas (including the villages of Almyrida, Kalives, Kokkino Horio, Plaka and Gavalohori) has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort area that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. The area is renowned for its sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, stunning views of Souda Bay and The White Mountains, excellent tavernas, and many archaeological sites.
The Director of Villas Crete Holidays is Frankie Miles. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 20 years and has written the best selling guide book "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances.
Both the company itself, and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.

Why they chose this property
Villa Almarine is close to tavernas, the beach, and many shops. It has a fantastic garden and large pool. It is ideal for groups who like to holiday together whilst still enjoying some privacy.
What makes this property unique
All of our villa owners employ a local house manager who you can call should you need any help at the villa itself.
We, at Villas Crete Holidays can help you with all aspects of your holiday including good value, reliable car hire, airport transfers, local information about shops, beaches, tavernas etc, detailed driving directions or walking directions for many routes. We can also arrange private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. Our office staff speak English, Greek, and a little French, and have a vast list of local contacts, and our part time representative in resort also speaks some Italian.
Most importantly, because we handle many villas, in the unlikely event that there is an unforeseen problem at your villa, we can usually offer you an alternative villa (although this cannot be guaranteed in high season).
We have many years experience working in tourism on Crete, and most importantly this experience is specifically related to villa rentals. We use all of our knowledge and local contacts to ensure that your holiday goes off smoothly from start to finish, from first booking the villa that is most suitable for you, to your arrival back home.
When you are in resort, we remain unobtrusive but are available by phone during office hours for information, and we have an automated answering service should you have a medical emergency out of hours.
