Unique c16th two double-bed apartment in The Chilterns near Oxford and Henley
Pineapple Apartment is on the first and second floors of a unique 16th century terraced house in the centre of Watlington. There is even a view of Watlington Hill from the top.
It consists of two double bedrooms, a fully equipped bathroom, sitting room, a quiet working space and food prep/eating area. Please note that there is no conventional hob or oven. Rather a microwave and air fryer for hot food.
We are 10 minutes walk from the Icknield Way and the National Trust's Watlington Hill.
Henley on Thames, Oxford, Thame and Wallingford are all about 15-20 minutes drive away.
The property is cosy, (Bijou to our French friends, Gemütlich to our German cousins), and suitable for everyone fit enough to manage a few stairs.

We used this apartment as a base for visiting Highclere and Blenheim Palace, and weren't disappointed. It's a very comfortable, cosy, quirky apartment, with all the facilities you need for a lovely, enjoyable stay. It's a very unique and historical property, which enhances its attraction. Communication with the host was excellent; Martin was always on hand to answer any queries, and give recommendations for places to visit.
Thoroughly recommended. Thank you, Martin and Karla, for your hospitality.

A belated thank you for your lovely review. Hope we meet again one day.

Attractive and comfortable accommodation, but lack of oven and hob made it difficult for self-catering. Steep stairs and sloping floors could prove difficult for the elderly!

I was saddened to read these comments as details of the cooking facilities, the stairs and 16th century character, are all clearly highlighted in Pineapple property description.
A period property that has many quirky features aswell as all the modern touches.
Beds were super comfy as were the pillows (when you get to a certain age these are 2 of the most important requirements in my opinion)
We were staying in Watlington for a family birthday and this was the perfect base, close to the pubs, shops and parking just round the corner.
Bathroom was beautifully clean and the little kitchenette had everything we needed.
Martin has included plenty of little touches that really add to a stay like this. Mini cereals, pint of milk, tea and coffee, fresh fruit, plenty of toilet rolls, towels and cleaning/toiletry items.
Communication with Martin was great from start to finish, and I'm sure if we'd had any problems he would have sorted anything quickly. As it was, everything was just perfect!!
Would definetly recommend.
Martin was a fantastic host who gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful and considerate throughout our stay. The apartment is well set up, comfortable and has a lot of character. We would both definitely stay again and highly recommend the local food! Lots of nice restaurants, pubs and bakeries and obviously some lovely scenery too.

A charming, quirky, well appointed 2 bedroom period flat in the centre of England's smallest town.
A great location within easy walking distance to several pubs and good restaurants in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Perfect to savor English village life and as a base to explore the Chilterns by bicycle or on foot.

Wonderful quirky apartment in lovely village
A perfect stay from start to finish! Located right in the middle of Watlington, 2 minutes' walk from pubs, restaurants and shops but still super quiet, Martin's apartment was perfect for our relaxing weekend away. The bed was so comfortable (we slept almost 12 hours the first night), and is a lovely place to unwind and relax. It's an old house so the floors are uneven, the doors are low, and the stairs are steep - but that all adds to the charm of the place. We absolutely loved it and will be back for sure.

It was a pleasure to welcome Anya and her family to The Pineapple Apartment. Communication was good and everything was left clean and tidy.
We are pleased that they found our little town of Watlington, with its range of specialist shops and the variety of pubs and places to eat interesting, and with everything they needed. They were also pleased to discover how easy it was to get to Oxford and enjoyed their time exploring all that it has to offer.
We look forward to welcoming them again in the future.....Perfect guests!
About the host

We have lived in Watlington since 1981 so our roots are firmly in the ground here and here we will stay. We are lucky to live in this beautiful corner of England with quick access to both Oxford and London. Pineapple Apartment is located above our interiors business and we live in the house behind both.
What makes this property unique
Pineapple Apartment is in a c16th house in the centre of Watlington. We are ten minutes walk from the Icknield Way (one of Europe's ancient 'roads') which runs from Avebury to Ivinghoe Beacon. Oxford is 20 minutes drive away and London is an hour's bus ride (Oxford Tube runs 24/7 every 10-20 minutes) from J6 of the M40. We are 40 minutes drive from Heathrow and not much more from the other London airports.
