Well appointed cosy cottage with good amenities. Warm and comfortable. Only struggle was parking our van. Streets very narrow and limited spaces in car parks. Lovely area for walks and gorgeous beach within walking distance.
This is the second year that we've stayed here and will continue to book in the futue. It is a beautiful accommodation, local to amenities and in walking distance to the beach.I couldn't recommend this property and Alison high enough.
We stayed here for a rock climbing weekend and had a great time! Beautiful cosy cottage and so comfortable! Loved listening to the seagulls in the evening over wine ans the best sunsets just down the road! Alison was great with her communication. Thank you
Property was very well equipped and clean, and we appreciated that some basic provisions were included. The location was great for walks, also good pubs/eateries nearby and the regular bus service into Weymouth.
Nice little cottage on a steep Portland Road. Cosy living/ dining room with steep stairs up to bedrooms. Parking right outside the door for not too large cars obstructs porch but almost guarantees you the space!
We had a nice stay at the cottage, it's cosy with a lot of character and it's a great spot just minutes from Chesel Beach. Also has easy access to bus stops for Weymouth Beach. Just beware of the steep roads and parking. We parked for free outside Chesel Beach.
Checkin and Out was very easy (First time doing self check-in and out!) worked a dream and very easyFull kitchen facilities, although we ended up eating out every meal (Except Breakfast) but there are all equipment that is needed to be used.Very steep stairs to go up to the rooms and to get to the top room, you have to go through the middle bedroom. Took me a while to work this out going around looking for the 3rd bedroom as thought the door in the middle room was a cupboard :) There are torches supplied in each room to use at night to go to the bathroom.Love the decor and had everything needed for a great breakI would definitely highly recommend this cottage and Alison was brilliant with communicating Hope to return sometime soon as love Prtland and surounding Dorset as did not get to see everything!
Me, hubby and my 6 year old son absolutely loved our stay at Kate’s Cottage. It’s perfectly situated, with local shops and chippy all within walking distance. The view is impressive! The cottage itself was very clean and tidy. Alison (the owner) has thought of everything! Its cute, quaint, beautiful and comfortable. She even went to the trouble of putting the dinosaur lampshade up in the living room area just for my son! Lovely. Lovely. Lovely.
We landed on the beautiful island of Portland by chance and were immediately enamoured. It's a very beautiful, special place and surprisingly also a good starting point for exploring the Jurassic Coast. The cottage is very lovingly furnished to a very high standard, but what we didn't realise (and can't be seen in the photos) is that it is really, really small. Not suitable for families with small children or people with limited mobility due to the narrow and steep stairs. But we are not, it was fine for us, we had a wonderful time. Many thanks to Alison, our lovely hostess! And folks, park your car right at the entrance to the village, where it says "pay here" - the only car park without stress and with enough space in the village - and free of charge.

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and trip Beate. Sorry to hear that you found the Fisherman’s Cottage very small. Families often stay, none so far have remarked on the cottage being a small space for their needs. Perhaps you might be used to large houses in Germany.

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Bad mould smells, unclean, unsuitable for children/ tall people.
Great location but unfortunately our stay was soured by unsatisfactory experience.
1) At least 4 kitchen cupboards gave off a strong odour of black mould and had visible staining. Cleaned black mould from back of plate & bowl cupboard but smell remained. Did not feel safe asking our young children to help out with kitchen chores.
In addition - cooker extractor fan was disgusting and smelled of greasy food as soon as turned on. Soaked and cleaned filter in sink which left water dirty brown and looked like never been cleaned. Smell better but still remained.
2) No suitable/ accessible for children or people near/ over 6 feet tall. One of us is 6ft1 and ended up hitting head on kitchen door frame, back door frame and sticking out cooker rim at least 6 times.
So much clutter and trinkets in the house too which would easily be damaged or damaging to small children running around.
3) On leaving owner sent a very blunt and accusatory message to us about a supposed "curry" stain left on a rug. We never ate curry or anything of a similar colour in property but owner insisted we pay £82 for a new rug and threatened to take our damage deposit.
Not the message you want to receive on returning home after a 6 hour drive.
Will not be staying again & would advise caution for anyone in booking before mould in particular is sorted out.
Super clean. Great for walking and catching bus to Weymouth. Not good for people with walking difficulties, my mum and Aunt found stairs and hill too hard to climb, which Alison pre warned us about. Great views from attic bedroom.
