We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, there was plenty of space and the kitchen was well equipped.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, there was plenty of space and the kitchen was well equipped. I can recommend the LATHKIL hotel for food and friendly staff and it is less than 5 minute walk!!! There are a couple of negatives though, firstly the web site states that there is parking on site, NOT TRUE!! you have to cross the road and go down a short track to park in an insecure car park. If that was accurately stated on the web site I would not have booked here, very annoying especially when it is raining. Along with others we had a job to find the accommodation due to bad directions and no name plaque at the entrance to the courtyard, when you get in the village look for the Lathkil pub sign, stop and look to your right and you will see the entrance in a gap in the wall. If you want hot radiators and control of the heating then you are out of luck, the radiators were at best warm and seemed to run through the night but not until early evening. I did contact the owners but nothing seemed to happen. Apart from these little things we did have a good time but would not return as the area is for outdoor activities which we are no longer able to do. Nice cottage, small but well kitted
The property is definitely rustic. It is extremely hard to find and the directions are essentially useless. It is odd that signage and instructions havent been improved given all the reviews state this. The car park is not obvious at all and it is not made clear on the listing that it is a short walk from the property and that you may only take your car into the courtyard for drop off. We eventually found a note in the guest book but better to tell guests in advance. Some basic maintenance is needed, the shower room fan does not work and this was noted in the guest book a year ago!! The furniture in the lounge is a but tatty and could use updating. It leads to a lot of wasted space. The sofas are small but everything else is very oversized for a small property. You can control the heating yourself but there are no instructions as to how to do this so you have to just figure it out! There is an excessively large upstairs bath and a powerful downstairs shower. If you want a cheap base from which to go hiking, stay with friends and have some peace and quiet, this is a very good location. The bedroom furniture is comfy. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery. There is some good outside space. The house was well lit. The fridge is also a very good size!

Cottage is located in a lovely area of the Peak District, plenty of walks either on your doorstep or a short drive away. Bakewell is a beautiful village and only 5 minutes by car. The Rustic Barn is in a lovely courtyard, with parking just across the road. The cottage is clean, but a little tired. The kitchen area, dining and lounge are very small for a 3 bedroom. The beds were comfortable and the shower downstairs was a dream. Overall I gave it a 7/10 due to the tiredness of the accomodation.
