Please note: There are 8 steps to the decked area and a small stream in the garden.. Kate’s Croft is a traditional detached stone cottage and barn conversion. Perched on a hillside overlooking the Moray Firth, it enjoys superb uninterrupted views across the Sutherland hills to the sea. Originally Kate’s Croft comprised a small, two-roomed croft house and barn. The cottage has been renovated by the current owner and now provides delightful accommodation that oozes rustic charm in a quiet and peaceful setting. It is situated on a small no-through lane that leads directly onto the open hillside. Just 1½ miles from the A9 and the renowned North Coast 500 route, it is easily accessible too. Wildlife is abundant in the immediate area and deer, golden eagles, otters, dolphins and seals are seen locally. The large kitchen/dining room in the converted barn area is simply stunning. With a farmhouse kitchen table, wood burner and bright, contemporary kitchen units with large range cooker, it makes a wonderful hub for the whole family to gather around. It is also extremely well-equipped. There are two separate living rooms, one with a large wood-burner, making this an ideal cottage for a two-family holiday or larger groups. The main bedroom is accessed via its own separate staircase. Located in the old hay loft and built into the hillside, the owner has cleverly added French doors which open onto a decking area with patio table and chairs where you can enjoy the morning sun, or if you are lucky, an amazing view of the Northern Lights. At the other end of the cottage a second staircase leads up to another double bedroom, a twin room and a single room. All enjoy the same wonderful sea views. There is a small enclosed garden with a picnic bench. From here, steps lead up to a small decked area behind the house which can also be accessed from the master bedroom.
Situated in the pretty hamlet of Gartymore, it is just over a mile to the attractive coastal fishing village of Helmsdale. Here there is a thriving small harbour and a good selection of small local shops and restaurants as well as a fascinating, award-winning museum detailing the area’s rich and varied past. There is a 9-hole golf course in the village and other championship golf courses at nearby Brora and Dornoch. The local shoreline is renowned for its fossils, which are regularly found along this particular stretch of coast. This region is also known for its unspoilt beaches, wild and rugged coastline, and traditional villages. Travel north to visit the Castle of Mey, John O’ Groats and the Orkney Isles. Golf, fishing, cycling, hill-walking, surfing, kayaking and pony trekking are all local pastimes. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¾ mile.
