About this property

Explore the Highlands from this unique, elevated, cruck-frame strawbale house with southerly views o

Explore the Highlands from this unique, elevated, cruck-frame strawbale house with southerly views over Loch Sunart and a hot tub on the large deck. . This unique, eco-friendly strawbale house has incredible views from its elevated position and is as spectacular as many featured on TV’s ‘Grand Designs’. Boasting a Green Tourism Gold Award, and facing due south with commanding views over Loch Sunart and the Morvern hills beyond, this detached property offers a huge upstairs with an arched roof and open plan kitchen, ?dining and living areas. It has floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors at the southern end which lead out onto the balcony where there is a small table and chairs for you to enjoy your morning coffee. A spiral staircase leads to the large lower deck with the hot tub, dining and sitting areas with a chiminea. Enjoy walks through the historic Ariundle oak woods, a temperate rainforest, and discover the old lead mines which are close by.
The rest of the peninsula has much to offer, including a number of ’Corbett’ mountains, the stunning Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse at the most westerly tip of the British Isles and the Ardmamurchan Distillery. There are pristine, sandy beaches along the coast, including Sanna Bay with its impressive white sand dunes and views across to Muck, Eigg and Rum. There is an abundance of wildlife, seabirds, seals, otters, deer, pine martens, as well as dolphin/whale watching and the Natural History Visitor Centre. It is possible to rent mountain bikes in the village and go for local kayak trips. You can also enjoy day trips to Glencoe and Ben Nevis (with skiing possible at each), and fans of Harry Potter can take the ’Jacobite Express’ steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, see the Glenfinnan Viaduct and so much more. This peaceful and tranquil place offers a truly ‘get away from it all’ experience and the views will amaze you - so come and relax. The local beach is less than ½ mile away and the stunning sandy coves at Ardtoe just a 12 mile drive. Shops, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The best VRBO property we have used in the UK
My wife & I stayed here for a week in June/July with plans to walk in the neighbouring countryside. The property was in immaculate condition and had everything we needed (including a hot-tub). It is indeed, an amazing construction (insulated with straw-bales) and gave us perfect privacy. The host was very welcoming and was on hand if we needed anything else. Top marks to him. He also had left details of over a dozen walks, with laminated instructions and maps. Just what we needed. This area of Scotland is off the beaten track and is well-worth visiting. We only lost one day to weather, but staying in the property made this a pleasure.
Stayed 7 nights in Jun 2022
