We spent six days at the property over Christmas to be close to family living nearby and it was the perfect base for our multi-generational group. Robert was a great host who ensured we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including a cake to welcome us. The location is stunning and the house is very well-equipped and comfortable.
Lovely welcome lovely accommodation in excellent order clean and inviting and very attentive host who makes a mean cake for his guest!! Couldn’t have asked for more. We thoroughly recommend this beautiful property.
This property is outstanding with every thing inside is of a high standard. It is very quiet location, with the only things you can hear are the sheep and the cows in the distance.

We loved our stay in the Big Broom Cupboard - a truly well designed and beautiful property. Our teens were thrilled with the Netflix and we were thrilled with the view, location and everything basically! Lovely owner too and there were lots of thoughtful touches which were appreciated. There was so much to do in the area that we hope to be back. Thank you for a lovely stay x

Accommodation was fab, hosts were too, and the location was perfect, set in rolling farmlands the garden was lovely with a great view for the sunsets. Surrounded by a number of lovely villages, it seemed each with their own 500 year old gastro pub! It’s a great base to explore Devon and Cornwall

Hi Natalie
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Big Broom Cupboard and thank you for a lovely review. You are always welcome to visit again.
Kind regards Robert
This great and modern vacation home offers everything for a family vacation. The rooms are spacious and top furnished, kitchen and the three bathrooms are perfect. Especially the welcome from the host and the beautiful flowers from their own garden were an exceptional surprise. The immediate area is very quiet and the location of the house is ideal for tours in southern Dartmoor.
The Big Broom Cupboard is a well-planned holiday cottage. It is fitted out to a high standard. (I loved the coffee machine particularly.)
The house is nicely presented and very well provisioned.
It is in a pretty location with lovely views. It is near the owner’s house, so it is not too isolated.
We all really enjoyed everything, even the lashings of rain! The Big Broom Cupboard exceeded our expectations, as did the stunning views, garden and surrounding area. Rob made a brilliant cake and was very helpful with any questions we had. There were lots of extras in the property which were very appreciated. It would definitely be a property we would return to if we were in the area again.

We can thoroughly recommend this property. Immaculate, fully equipped accommodation set in beautiful countryside. My mother (80s) loved the ground floor bedroom with wet room. Peaceful and “remote” yet handily placed for local services at Yelverton and a selection of pubs, eateries and attractions. Enjoyed looking at the wildlife, sheep and cattle in neighbouring fields. Owner Robert who lives next door was very pleasant and helpful when required and very respectful, leaving us to enjoy our break in privacy otherwise. Loved this place!
Robert is a great host. Everything was better than expected. Everything was clean and really everything we could imagine was available. We enjoyed our stay so much. It was so quiet there, besides the sheeps and singing birds. A really lovely place to stay. Robert is so kind, we even got a vegan cake and vegan icecream on arrival. Just because we asked for restaurants with vegan options a week before our stay. That’s amazing. Thanks for the great time.

Many thanks for your kind review and it was lovely to meet you all. Many thanks also for leaving the place to clean and tidy. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday. Kind regards Robert
We spent one week of our holidays in this beautiful house. On the day of arrival we were warmly welcomed: The table for tea time was already set and the cake was delicious. Often we sat on the terrace and enjoyed the great view or the beautiful, well-kept garden. The days were quiet and relaxing. We missed nothing. It was so lovely. Many thanks to Robert. We will come back soon.
We highly recommend a stay at the Big Broom Cupboard. It's clean, comfortable and very well appointed.
The property is well laid out with high quality fittings and appliances. Robert, the owner, adds some great touches including basic food essentials, flowers from the garden, cake and bowls of sweets. He is a fabulous host, being helpful but not intrusive.
Sadly we only had 3 nights at the property, which simply wasn't enough to explore the area, We will return, and when we do we will stay here.
Thanks Robert.
The house is everything as shown on the website and more!! Downstairs there is an exceptionally clean kitchen, full of everything you may need, a lovely lounge with a wonderful view and a king sized bedroom with a lovely wet room with a shower you never want to leave!!
Upstairs there are two further double bedrooms and a large bathroom.
There were so many personal touches which added to our stay, including a delicious homemade cake and flowers in each room.
We were unable to sit outside because of the constant rain but the house is set up to really appreciate the sunset each evening.
Robert is on hand to answer any questions you may have and to help with ideas for places to visit. Suki, his labradoodle, is a beautiful and friendly dog that I really wanted to take home with me!!
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will not hesitate to rebook if we are ever in the area again!

Hi Carol. Thanks you so much for your very kind review. You were fantastic guests and thank you for leaving the house so clean and tidy. You are always welcome to return anytime. Kind regards Robert
If you want to stay in a beautiful, spacious, comfortable, well-equipped home in the heart of the Devon countryside, with the most courteous and helpful host imaginable, then you want to stay here. The location is very rural, but with a couple of pubs and a National Trust property within walking distance. The house itself is only a few years old, so everything inside is sparkling clean and works perfectly, and someone put a lot of thought into furnishing the place (e.g. tasteful and co-ordinated colour schemes, beautiful soft furnishing fabrics, curtains and blinds that actually keep out light in the bedrooms, kitchen equipment and plates/cups/glasses that you might buy for your own home). There are some touches that you rarely find in rental properties, like a large supply of local maps, walking guides and leaflets, and some that I've never seen in any other rental - fresh flower arrangements in every room, little baskets of sweets in the bedrooms, a well-stocked pantry that works on the honour system, home-baked scones and cake from the host. It's like staying in a combination of your own holiday cottage and a luxury hotel, the best of both worlds.
Wonderful spot - pastoral setting with stylish and modern guest house
The Broom Cupboard has it all. Lovely views, a well designed and tastefully decorated house that is peaceful, but not isolated. The property is very near the Dartmoor National Park, but because there are several nearby villages, there are plenty of places to go out for a good meal if you don’t want to cook, though the kitchen is well equipped and has pretty views. The bathrooms are all very stylish, with hotel quality soaps, lotion and shampoo. Like a hotel but better! Excellent mattresses as well. We stayed during a warm and sunny week, and were really amazed at how cool the house got at night, due to the numerous windows, skylights and the floor to ceiling glass doors that really let the breeze flow through. It was delightful after the heat of the day. The entire property is landscaped and has colorful plants all around to enjoy from several different outside seating areas. It was tough to get motivated to leave the grounds! We had an amazing time and hated to leave. Thanks Robert for the hospitality and opening your delightful cottage to others to enjoy. Would definitely come back if our travel plans permit.

Hi Ann
Thank you so much for your super review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and many thanks for leaving the house so clean and tidy. You are always welcome to return anytime.
Kind regards Robert
My wife and I chose the property to take my mother who is in her 80s away for a Christmas break. We liked the fact that the property had recently been constructed and had a downstairs bedroom with ensuite bathroom that included a walk in shower, and was recently constructed and had under floor heating.
The owners themselves were away at the same time as our visit but made arrangements for us to be welcomed by their friends that were staying in the main building to show us around the property, which has wonderful views of the countryside with a picture postcard pond and stream. The lounge had a Christmas tree with some presents and notwithstanding the wet weather outside the underfloor heating made the property feel warm and cosy throughout our stay.
In advance of the booking we communicated several times with the owner in order to ensure that the kitchen had equipment and utensils that would cope with cooking the Christmas dinner. The kitchen did not disappoint including an excellent oven and a dish washer and table for 6. The kitchen was open plan with the lounge which meant that we could cook whilst watching the telly. The utility room, fridge and freezer were well stocked in case you had forgotten anything.
We stayed for 4 nights. Fortunately on Christmas day the clouds broke and we had a beautiful bright sunny day. We visited Buckland Abbey, less than 1 mile away, which was the residence of Sir Francis Drake for 15 years, as well as the market town of Tavistock which had a lovely riverside walk. On Boxing Day we also walked part of Drake's trail near Yelverton and returned to the property soaking wet.
We would definitely recommend the property and its location. We had a wonderful Christmas and look forward to perhaps returning some day.
We are retired teachers who live in an adjoining property on the family farm. We will be on hand to assist with any problems or queries.
Why they chose this property
The property was completed by us in 2018 so is very new and finished to a high specification. Located on the family farm with great views of the Devon countryside and distant views of Cornwall.
