Uncork a bottle and relax at Wine Down, a charming 1924 riverfront cottage blending vintage character with peaceful natural beauty. Wood floors, custom cedar accents, and walls of windows create a warm, light-filled retreat overlooking the ever-changing Russian River.
The open living, dining, and kitchen areas make it easy to gather, with river views throughout. Enjoy cozy evenings by the gas fireplace or dine outside on the deck, where a hot tub invites you to unwind under the stars.
Follow the stairs to the smaller dining deck and seasonal river access. Birdlife is abundant, adding to the tranquil setting. Bedrooms feature comfortable Casper California king mattresses, and the living room offers plenty of space to relax.
Located just half a mile from Monte Rio, three miles from Duncan’s Mills, and ten miles from the Pacific Ocean at Jenner, Wine Down is the perfect base for your Russian River getaway.
Know Before You Book:
Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Wine Down is 6 people not including kids under 3 years old. Quiet hours are from 9:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at all times.
A Note About Our Cleaning Fees: Thank you for supporting our local business! When you stay with us, you are supporting local families at work. We think everyone deserves a decent living wage, and we make sure to set the rates and fees so that our cleaners and employees earn a living wage in beautiful Sonoma County. The cleaning fee goes directly to the cleaners and inspectors for their hard work in making sure our guests have a wonderful and welcoming space to call home for their stay.
Parking: The parking deck accommodates 2 cars. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.
Bed Sizes: First Bedroom: California King Bed; Second Bedroom: California King Bed; Living Room: Single Day Bed; Queen Sofabed.
Heat Source: Gas fireplace in the living room and electric wall heaters in the bedrooms.
A/C: Wine Down does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the nighttime temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.
Baby/Kid-Specific Items: A pack-n-play is provided.
Stairs: There are two steps from the parking area to the house. There are exterior stairs to the outdoor shower, laundry room and river overlook. Seasonal stairs to the river. Inside, the home is all one level.
EV charger: Level 2 EV charger. Please use during non-peak hours/overnight.
Docks, Boats, and River Access: These are seasonal amenities and only available when conditions allow. Expect docks, boats, and river access when the summer dams are in (mid-June to mid- September). Conditions vary from year to year and can change rapidly – use your best judgement to determine your risk level and comfort in the water/physical activity. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are underwater until late spring.
River Stairs: There's a staircase from the lowest level of the yard to the river in the summer months. It is (rarely) shared with one neighbor. There is not a dock – the stairs end at the riverbed or the water depending on water levels.
Boats: When available, there is 1 double kayak, 3 single kayaks, and 1 stand up paddleboard stored in the yard.
Rural Setting and Critters: We live in a rural area with ants, spiders, rodents, and larger critters from raccoons and mountain lions to bears. While we make the best effort to protect against them from coming into homes, we also do not use poison where it can harm wildlife, pets, and children. And keeping all critters out is simply not possible. We appreciate your help in putting tasty smelling items into refrigerators, proper disposal of trash, and understanding that ants (especially) come in without warning and may not have been present at the time of cleaning.
Cell Phones: Please be aware that many cell phones will not have service at this location. There is WiFi though!
Pet Friendly: This home welcomes up to 2 well-mannered dogs. If you have more than 2 dogs or other types of pets, please contact us to see if exceptions can be made before reserving.
Fencing: The main deck is fully enclosed and includes separate gates to the parking deck and stairs to the yard. The lower level of the property is not fenced.
Driving Distances: Proximity to wineries: Korbel Winery is 7.8 miles and an additional 5 minutes to Westside Road. Nearest River Beach: For a more traditional sandy beach and summer concessions, the Monte Rio Public Beach is 0.7 miles. Nearest Ocean Beach: There are many ocean beaches along the Sonoma coast, but one of the closest is Goat Rock State Beach just south of Jenner – 11.2 miles from the house. One of the beaches at Goat Rock is dog-friendly. Distance to Downtown Guerneville: The Safeway in downtown Guerneville is 5.0 miles. Northwood Golf Course: 1.9 miles. Distance to Santa Rosa Airport: 19.9 miles.

Only here two nights, but it was just as described, and just what we needed. Well supplied and maintained. We enjoyed the hot tub and the river in our full day here, as well as some lovely close-by hikes.

Perfect spot to get away and just enjoy the fresh air and quiet. Parking is a little tight for a full size truck but doable.

Such a great spot. Hot as the weather was, we were happy as can be under the shade of the redwoods with an amazing breeze. House was very comfortable and the outdoor shower was delightful. Neighbors are all pleasant and we would love to return!

A very cute little cabin, perfectly situated on the Russian River with river access. There's a great island right down the hill that we hung out on all day. Water was running a bit too strong to go swimming, but can imagine it'd be perfect in late summer.

Hello Annie, We are elated you enjoyed your stay! Thank you being such wonderful guests :)
Property was on the Russian River and it was a bit cold during our stay to enjoy the deck and outdoor space, but a comfortable home that was close to coast and hiking for day trips. I really enjoyed the timely text reminders and check-in/ out. This feature made it easy to keep track of the guest details.

Hello Carol, Thank you for your review! We are so glad you had a wonderful stay. We appreciate you being such great guests :)
Cute, cozy cabin right on the Russian River. We enjoyed our stay over the New Year's holiday weekend in this comfortable home. Has a nice little kitchen that was perfect for our needs, and the large dining table was great for our family to gather around for meals and to play board games. We loved the hot tub on the deck where we enjoyed the rain while watching the river and wildlife. Beautiful spot! The only downside was the road is a bit busy with nowhere to really walk which made it difficult to walk our dog but otherwise, it was the perfect getaway spot!

Hello Lauren, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for being such great guests :)
Lovely house with many surprising amenities. Nice large hot tub with stunning views of the river. Close enough to the madness of Monte Rio Beach without being in it. And easy river access. Only minus was a close proximinity to neighboring rental, but it wasn't a problem. I will definitely be back!

Perfect relaxing home from home
Booked for a long weekend for our family of 4, and the house was perfect.
They have created a lovely relaxing place with plenty of light, home comforts, a large deck and direct river access. It's conveniently located just outside of Monte Rio, with many of the other towns a short drive away for breakfasts, activities, shopping, etc.
We'll be back for another weekend soon.

About the host
Hosted by Russian River Vacation Homes
We are Russian River Vacation Homes, a part of D&G Equity Management, Inc., a family owned and locally owned/operated property management company.
Our Story: In 1980, D&G founders and owners Michael and Patty saw a need in the area for habitable, affordable housing. At that time, many of the little cabins along the Russian River, originally built as summer cabins, were unsuitable for year-round occupancy. D&G assisted property owners with fixing up and renting their cabins. As the largest property management company in western Sonoma County, D&G Equity Management continues to be a staple in the Russian River community.
Russian River Vacation Homes is an off-shoot of D&G. One fine day in 1985, Michael's client, Bob, asked "Hey Mike, can you rent my cabin out just for the week or weekend instead of by the month?" Michael said "Sure!" and Russian River Vacation Homes was born. As renting vacation rentals became more popular, Russian River Vacation Homes grew into a full-time business with its own office. Today, Russian River Vacation Homes professionally manages over 60 high-quality vacation rentals.
We strive to make each and every stay the best one ever. If you have any questions or concerns about reserving or staying with us, please don't hesitate to contact us! We are here to help.
Why they chose this property
Welcome to vacation wonderland! Monte Rio has a great dog friendly beach along the Russian River that has seasonal canoe rentals. Visit The Rio, an historic quonset hut movie theater on the Russian River, including a cafe with great food and beer, and a sunny outdoor market on summer weekends. Monte Rio is home to the beautiful Northwood Golf Club, a 9 hold course amongst the redwoods designed by Alister MacKenzie, of Augusta fame. There is also a popular bar and restaurant on the golf course property. Monte Rio is just a short drive to the many Russian River Valley Wineries to the east, and is also a short drive west to the ocean where you’ll find scenic beaches and hiking trails. This is a great launch point for your outdoor and wine tasting adventures!
