Cabin in a Wooded Private Paradise - 7 Miles From Downtown Asheville! HOT TUB!
2 BR 1.5 BA Sleeps Maximum of 4 adults/children
This secluded getaway rests within a private 55-acre natural sanctuary graced with peaceful and relaxing hiking trails throughout. At the end of a half a mile gravel driveway, you'll have your own forest adventure just outside the the door. Yet only 15 minutes from the vibrant culinary, music, and arts experience in downtown Asheville to just 10 minutes from the funky West Asheville scene and 20 minutes to never-ending Pisgah Forest, it's the best of all worlds.
Inside your home, you'll find an open, inviting and artsy gathering area. This space includes a cozy living room, kitchen, dining area, and half bath. The well-equipped full kitchen has a refrigerator, range, and dishwasher with plenty of space to prepare food while enjoying an appetizer on the natural bartop. Beyond the dining table, relax on the cozy couch or chairs by the stand alone gas fireplace and view the never-ending wilderness out the windows.
Downstairs there are two spacious bedrooms each furnished with a queen bed, independent heating/cooling systems, and full closets with plenty of additional storage. A large bath consisting of a marble double vanity and overhead shower with pebble stone floor will ease your day's adventures. Along with a washer and dryer on the same level, there is a second living area with laid back chairs and lots of books and games. This area is a great hangout spot for kids in the evening.
Venturing outside, there is a relaxing and open patio with the forest beyond. It's the perfect place for a grilled evening dinner on the gas grill or morning coffee under the unique Mangolia tree. Make sure you use the propane gas fire table for evening stories and, of course, don't forget the smores...just keep an ear out for the whippoorwills and local owl.
As you continue outside, it's good to know that this property has been known as 'Shinn Gardens'. For years it was a top location for the Asheville Botanical Gardens to lead a semi-annual tour of the vast expanse of local plants and flowers only found in the Western North Carolina region, one of the largest collections in the state. The Shinns had spent over 30 years collecting and relocating local fauna to be put in it's natural habitat and create a sanctuary of local plants. Beyond these several short loops flooded with rare and native plants there are miles of traverses with an excellent camping spot at the top of the mountain...all within the private seclude of the property.
But we also know you are here for Asheville, so go enjoy. Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, Downtown Asheville, beautiful Pisgah Forest...all is within 15-20 minutes of here. And if on your way home you're not ready to settle in, check out Noble Cider off Leicester Highway. Only two miles from the house and on the way home, it boasts the best cider brewery Asheville has to offer.
If you're looking for privacy, nature and quiet solitude but still want to be minutes from a thriving downtown like none other, this is the place for you.

This was our 2nd time staying here. We had another amazing stay. We enjoyed the hot tub. The house had everything that we needed. Anne is very responsive. The location is great. It isn’t very far from downtown, Biltmore & downtown. We would definitely stay here again.
We loved our stay at the cabin and it was a perfect jumping off point to explore Asheville and the surrounding area. Clean with all the comforts of home and very welcoming. Surrounded by beautiful trees and lots of birds!
We thoroughly enjoyed this cabin . The setting was very private in the woods very peaceful. The cabin itself had everything that we needed was very clean easy to check in. We came up to Asheville to go hiking and played in a tennis tournament and we were able to enjoy both and come back to relax in the hot tub. Owner was easy to work with and answered all questions . We will absolutely look up this place to see if it's available the next time we are in Asheville, which we hope to be very soon.
The property was great. One of the nicest VRBO homes we have stayed in. It was cute, quirky, & very clean. We love the location on a wooded lot. The home had everything we needed for our stay.
Little House in the Big Woods was a perfect place for my daughter and me for a weekend getaway to Asheville. It was convenient to town, yet far enough away for us to be able to enjoy the slower pace of the woods.
The property manager was extremely friendly, informative, and accessible. The property is very private and cute. This was our first experience using this kind of rental and our experience was so great that we will definitely do this again.

Perfect holiday destination
What a beautiful place to spend thanksgiving! This wonderful house is perfect. Very clean, updated and easy to move around. The natural surroundings were great! Just minutes from downtown, this private retreat will reset your lives and bring the important things into focus. Thank you

We were looking for a place close to our friends in Asheville that would give us our own quiet space to unwind and rest after a long day of exploring and hiking. The bedrooms were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. Waking up early and walking the trails was a highlight for me. The woods and the view are beautiful. We were close to the mountains and everything Asheville has to offer. My kids appreciated the board games Thank you for the great stay!
We loved staying here! Check in and out were both super easy. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Code for the lock, so we didn't have to worry about losing a key. The property is located in a quiet, private and beautiful location. It's close to downtown Asheville, and also a quick drive to get to any of the outdoor activities in the area. We enjoyed the hot tub and cooked several meals in the kitchen. It had all the cookware one could need.Host is very responsive to any questions! The only reason I gave four stars was because the dehumidifier is located in the closet of one of the bedrooms. It would turn on and off frequently, and is pretty loud when it runs. We didn't sleep very well in that room. However, we will definitely stay here again!

Great location and nice home layout
I enjoyed this home with my family (wife and two kids). We really liked the layout of the home, the upstairs area with kitchen was very comfortable and accommodating. We had everything we needed. We also made several trips into and around Asheville and were pleased with how quickly we could go to and fro. I especially appreciate how remote the house felt, but, still close to the town.
Once piece of feedback for this home - the lower level had lots of moisture in the air. When we arrived we noticed a particular dampness and odor that never subsided. This really took away from the comfort level of the home.

Thanks for your review. We've never had any complaints about the moisture level in the home before but we will address the issue for the comfort of all future guests. It's likely the settings for the mini-splits (the heating and AC units) weren't set correctly. It would have been nice if you had contacted us during your stay so we could have addressed it at that time.

Great, new, isolated cottage in thw woods with all the modern conveniences
We spent five glorious days in the quiet isolation of the Little House in the Big Woods with our Service Dog. It was named well, is very well equipped and has comfortable beds, a great Wi-Fi signal, three flat screen TVs, and a fully equipped kitchen. It does not have cable TV, but it does have Roku, Netflix and Hulu, so it is not lacking in entertainment technology. If you can access your streaming xfinity account, you don't miss anything. The fire pit was great, and the gas grill was also great for grilling. It is a short distance from Hendersonville, and a great meal at Vinnie's Neighborhood Italian was all you need to make it a memorable break. Downtown Asheville and Chimney Rock were a short drive away.

What a gem this apparently newly built or renovated rental house turned out to be! We have stayed in several vacation rental houses, and this is FAR and AWAY the best appointed of them all. It has very nice design features, from the lighting to the pocket doors to the lovely patio. The kitchen is terrific and was provided with everything three people could want in cooking, cleaning, and storage. The isolation at the end of the road was scary at first and romantic at last. NOTHING but woods around and near neighbors that we could not see. Far enough away and close enough to town to be fine. Comfortable beds and maybe the finest bathroom we have ever experienced in a vacation home. A few minor negatives. Change the directions to read take the SECOND fork right. It would have been nice to have some firewood handy for the fire pit. We eventually found some in town on the third day. We also know the TV situation - no cable - and access to major network TV would have been nice.
Other than that, we had a delightful 4-night stay at this property.
