A quaint little cottage, very well equipped, comfortable, clean and very homely. Good location in a quiet street. It is not new, but that is its charm. Loved our stay there.

A delightful pioneer cottage, clean, comfortable bed and a well stocked kitchen. We booked in late autumn and were warm, using a combination of dual cycle air and fire place. Lovely bath tub, nice bottle of wine, some port and chocolate to welcome us. Good supply of hot water. Local possum (not resident) scuttled across the roof each evening. Treasure chest of local family and settler history in the lounge cabinet. Enjoyed walks and restaurants up the road (need to book). Local tourist information centre helpful. Fascinating brick oven in back yard sunken cellar.

Thank you Vernon for your lovely review and great that you could visit many places in the Valley. Unfortunately possums do sometimes make their presence known with nocturnal hi-jinks on the roof. Every effort is made to relocate them prior to guests.
My husband and I were well overdue for a weekend of R & R. Norma's Place was perfect for this. Great location within walking distance of the main street and a short drive to the wineries. The cottage was well appointed, cosy and comfortable. Thanks for hosting us.

Wonderful old cottage that was cosy and welcoming. Wonderful touches like books, breakfast provisions, wine and even some chocloate to go with the port. Faye is s wonderful host and had thought of everything, we can't wait to return.
We had a wonderful experience at the cosy cottage with lots of character. Everything was well considered, from the thoughtful gifts to quality breakfast supplies and fresh fruits. We enjoyed the beautiful gardens and the fireplace was a real treat! Great location too. Highly recommend!

Great little cottage. Very cosy and close to everything you would want to do in Tununda and the Barossa region. The little added touches made us feel very welcome.

About the host

Although Norma's is a completely self-contained cottage on a large block of land, I live close by and can respond quickly to any requests or concerns you may have during your stay.
Why they chose this property
This unique German Settlers Cottage was the family home of several generations and Norma was the last of her family to live in it. Unfortunately she had no children, her husband dying within months of their marriage. The cottage has many original features including open fire. The most unique feature is the cellar/bakehouse in the large back garden. Once called The North Para Bakery it operated in the 1940's to supply bread to the American Troops who were housed at Sandy Creek. The bakehouse was restored and used by my family for special celebrations. (It can take up to three days to get the Scotch oven hot enough.) As guests you can view it but unfortunately cannot use the oven due to insurance/safety restrictions. If you have an interest in history there are numerous books on the Barossa area and various family histories of the early families.
What makes this property unique
Step back in time, when life was a little simpler. A basic four room cottage was generally the "norm" for families and families were generally quite large eg 12. Make Norma's your own private little tranquil retreat after a day of wine tasting and site seeing or just relaxing by the open fire (backed by RC A/c) and no WiFi! Also you are not sharing with other guests although wildlife occasionally like to visit.
