About Sonia Grothe
Hi there. Your owners Dirk (signwriter) and Sonia (photographer) hail from an hour up the road in Pambula, one hour to the north just over the NSW border. We are self-employed small business owners and love taking a drive down the road to visit beautiful Mallacoota. We renovated the property ourselves and a lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into it over the last decade! We hope to retire here one day. In the meantime, we love to share the house with our wonderful guests, many who have been staying with us 10 years.
Sonia Grothe purchased this house in 2009
Why Sonia Grothe chose Mallacoota
Definitely the location, the privacy and the ambience make Spirit Level stand apart from other properties. This house has personality plus! Wander to the shops, to the pub, the lake or hook up with one of the many walking trails that lead off in all directions. The beach is about a 20 minute walk or a 3 minute drive.
What makes this house unique
The first time we saw the property, even though it was slightly run down, we started giggling at just how cute it was. We later found out the home was previously owned by Mr & Mrs Nailer - he was a window dresser and she was seamstress at Georges - a old style department store in Melbourne. The house really has a unique charm, not everyone's cup of tea, especially if you like ultra modern. It's a little bit kitsch and a little bit like staying at your grandparents beach cottage. We want to retain the nostalgic touches and return to the days of the good old-fashioned Aussie beach holiday!
