About this property
Spirit Level Mallacoota
Explore the heart of the wilderness coast in beautiful Mallacoota.
A true home-away-from-home this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom property is an original Mallacoota 60's beach house that has been thoughtfully restored to enhance the delightful retro features. The home has a unique nostalgic ambience that just invites relaxation!
Spirit Level also offers a boat mooring from the home's private jetty M33 on the lake, located about 200m from the house.
Just a short flat stroll to the town centre it is conveniently located yet very private, tucked inside established gardens.
Suited to boat owners & keen fisherman, there is off-street parking for car & boat, plus an outdoor sink with hot and cold water. We are located just a few hundred metres from the public jetty and boat ramp.
Decorated with a mix of contemporary & retro furnishings, there's a flat screen TV with Netflix, Stan, Google Play and Youtube and complimentary WIFI. Also a Bose Bluetooth speaker, old fashioned radio, wood fire for chilly nights, gas BBQ, outdoor setting, different zones to relax in, plus little extras to make your stay thoroughly memorable & enjoyable.
All bedding, linen, towels, beach towels, extra blankets & tea towels are supplied.
Open plan kitchen & laundry with plenty of kitchenware, plates, cutlery and sharp knives. Tea towels, dish washing liquid, salt, pepper and a few pantry staples are supplied. Check the pantry, you might not have to buy it! There's also a Weber hooded gas BBQ on the patio.
Although non-smoking inside the house, there is an undercover area on the patio to accommodate smokers.
One of the most enticing features is the large patio with perfect north facing aspect and total privacy for entertaining & relaxing. Outdoor setting for 6 and a couple of sun lounges are there too.
Bedding Configuration - Sleeps up to 7
2 Queen bedrooms
1 Queen bedroom with extra single day-style bed.
2 bathrooms, both with shower & toilet (note: they are not ensuites)
Linen, bedding, bath towels & beach towels supplied. Washing machine & ironing facilities are provided.
Perfect for 2 or 3 couples or a family and just a lazy stroll to the shops, pub, tennis, sporting grounds, skate ramp, lakes, beaches, cafes & restaurants.
Pet Friendly - Large Backyard
The home is outdoor pet friendly - there's an undercover section on the patio, large backyard which is fairly well dog-proof unless you have a real escape artist. BYO doggie bedding, some bowls are available for food & water and a couple of doggie beach towels for there for beach-lovin' pooches!
Mallacoota is an amazing place to visit with it's pristine waterways, forests & beaches. It would take days to explore the many arms & bays of over 300km of waterways & coastline. It is one of the last unspoilt places in Victoria. Nearby Croajingolong National Park is one of only 12 World Biosphere UNESCO reserves in Australia. The 87500 hectare park is home to 52 mammal species, 26 reptile species & 306 bird species representing half of Victoria's and a 3rd of Australia's total bird species. There are 40 species of migratory seabirds & waders and 6 owl species. Plus threatened wildlife including Ground Parrots, Eastern Bristlebird, Smokey Mouse, Grey-headed Flying Fox & the Australian Fur Seal. It is truly a very special place.
NOTE: We are a bit old fashioned - there's no air-conditioning! The house is breezy, being not far from the water and we have fans in the lounge and bedrooms.

About the host
Hosted by Sonia Grothe

Hi there. Your owners Dirk (signwriter & artist) and Sonia (photographer) hail from an hour up the road in Pambula, just over the NSW border. We are self-employed small business owners and love taking a drive down the road to visit beautiful Mallacoota. We renovated the property ourselves and a lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into it over the last decade. We hope to retire here one day. In the meantime, we love to share the house with our wonderful guests, many who have been staying with us 10 years.
Why they chose this property
Definitely the location, the privacy and the ambience set Spirit Level apart from other properties. This house has personality plus! Wander to the shops, to the pub, the lake or hook up with one of the many walking and biking trails that lead off in all directions. The beach is about a 20 minute walk or a 2 minute drive.
What makes this property unique
The first time we saw the property, even though it was slightly run down, we started giggling at just how cute it was. We later found out the home was previously owned by Mr & Mrs Nailer - he was a window dresser and she was seamstress at 'Georges' - a old style department store in Melbourne. The house has a genuine charm and we love the uniqueness of it. It's a little bit kitsch and feels like staying at your grandparent's beach shack. We have retained nostalgic touches, adding some modern comfort. It's a return to the days of the good old-fashioned Aussie beach holiday!
