About Rick Storlie
Hello! My name is Rick Storlie. I have 4 kids- Ali, Lauren, Mason & Breanna. I live in Prior Lake, MN with my wife Rachel and I'm originally from Northfield. My brother Chip is a part owner with us. Both of us are alumni of St. Cloud State University.
Rick Storlie purchased this Townhouse in 2006
Why Rick Storlie chose Tofte
My family has been vacationing on the north shore since 1975. My father owned a Lutsen Sea Villa (which is coincidentally less than a mile from our cabin now) until 1995. I learned to ski, deer/grouse hunt and skip rocks on the north shore. Chip has hiked many miles of the Superior Hiking trail and loves to kayak along the shore of Lake Superior on calm days. We've swam in the lake (be careful it's cold), water skied (on a dare), fished and enjoyed bathtub like water (once) along with 20+ foot waves. One of the neatest things to do is sleep with the windows open and hear the waves crashing on the rocks below. The combination of Lake Superior and the Superior National forest has an indescribable calming effect on your soul. All I can say is- a trip to the north shore is guaranteed to recharge your batteries!
What makes this Townhouse unique
No matter what the season there are things to do on the North Shore. SUMMER Try the Alpine slide located at Lutsen Mountains. The Gitchi Gami bike trail now has been extended so you can access it in front of our home. You can hop on and bike the north shore for miles. Find Lake Superior fishing charters in Tofte and Grand Marais along with inland fishing lakes too. The Superior Hiking Trail is only a couple of miles from our home. I recommend the Oberg and LeVeaux loop- fantastic overlooks! Golfers will love Superior National and its 27 holes. Yes it's challenging but the views of Lake Superior and Moose Mountain will help you forget how many balls you've lost! Like to shop? Quaint shops are located right on the harbor in Grand Marais. Only 20 minutes away. WINTER Lutsen Mountains has the best downhill skiing in the Midwest. There are hundreds of miles of cross country, snow shoe and snowmobile trails accessible within 5 minutes. The clubhouse at Superior National turns into a winter recreation activity center. You can go on horse drawn sleigh rides and take dog mushing tours- just stop by. SPRING Spring time hikes along raging streams in the spring will give you countless photo opportunities. Perhaps the best spring activity is hanging our at our home with a good book. Cook some great food and take advantage of quiet time on the North Shore. Rates are lower too! FALL The fall colors in the Maple forests are second to none. Fall is still my favorite time to visit the north shore. I think the two things we may love the most are fires on the lake shore and coffee on the deck overlooking the lake. If you're an early riser you can see the sun come right out of the water!

Loved Loon Lodge -Aug 2019
This was an absolute perfect home for our group of 6 adults! We already knew we loved the North Shore, but this home made it even more enjoyable. Every amenity was thoughtfully supplied.
We were very close to the hikes we had planned and then could come back and watch the stars over the water in the evening.
Definitely would recommend this property!
The Loon Lodge was perfect for our two families! Our four teenagers had plenty of space and privacy. We appreciated the ability to cook at home thanks to the most fully equipped kitchen I've ever seen in a rental property, with literally every utensil, pots and pan you can dream of. The location is close to everything. and we loved the beach and cliffs in front of the property. Being Italian I am not easily impressed with shorelines, having seen magnificent beaches and cliffs, but this corner of lake superior is truly delightful. The colors of the rocks make them look like painted. The view from the house's two balconies is fantastic. The cleanness is impeccable and each detail has been carefully chosen to give this house personality and taste. Thank you Rick for sharing your home with us, and we hope to visit again!
Well stocked kitchen, fair price for the space and number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Beautiful master bedroom, beautiful view. The only downside is that you have to walk several flights of steep steps to get to the water, and then it's a very small beach front. Not accessible for anyone with limited mobility.
We loved the place. Amazing space, so beautiful right on the North shore.
Perfect family getaway home
This comfortable, nicely furnished home provided our family of six adults and a pre-teen with plenty of space to be together or to have a quiet place to retreat. The lake views and shoreline are spectacular and a treat to return to after busy days enjoying the sights and activities along the North Shore. The home included everything we could have asked for from a well-equipped kitchen to comfortable beds, a roomy main level deck with plenty of seating, and even a garage for storing the bikes we brought with us.
Great place: Surpassed all expectations
It was wonderfully furnished and comfortable with beautiful scenery and a lot of local things to do. We enjoyed foot golf at Superior National, and there was a nice little disc golf course nearby. We did not kayak this year, but that is always enjoyable. My family likes to take the gondola up Lutsen to do some exploring. This is a great place to escape the heat in the summer.
Cross country ski, Snowmobile and hiking trails (including the Superior Hiking trail) are accessible across Hwy 61 off the Onion River Road. The Alpine slide and Gondola Rides are very close and open in the spring, summer and fall.
The Gitchie Gami bike trail is accessible right from our driveway and connects to the Temperance River State Park, Tofte, Superior National Golf Course, Lutsen Resort and Ski Hill Road in Lutsen.
Grand Marais is 20 minutes down Hwy 61 for shopping, recreation and lots of dining options!
