About this property

An island style escape - Stunning oak A-frame Waterfront home Access by water

As a resident of the “island”, I am very lucky to have what I consider to be the best of both worlds. A truly amazing home with ocean views, river views, mountain views - a little piece of paradise only 45 minutes drive from Sydney. Near by car and far by experience.
Perched only 60 metres away from the private jetty, the home itself is an entertainer’s delight. It melds perfectly to be what you need it to be - fantastic fishing cabin for a weekend away with the boys, base camp for exploring local wildlife, beach house with plenty of areas to relax for a weekend escape, clubhouse with games, firepit, pool table and ping pong for a family tribe on school holidays.
My dream with this home is to provide a space which caters to anything you could wish to do in this pristine location. And, I have to say, so far, so good.
Originally from somewhere just a tad different to Bar Point (I’m from Joburg in South Africa), I still wake up every day in this extraordinary location pinching myself! I like to think of myself as a bit of an entertainer with an adventurous spirit - so I have designed the home and to include everything you require for Fishing, crabbing, kayaking, boating, exploring or simply enjoying some time relaxing with a wine or two enjoying the view.
I also live locally so am on hand (at your request) to assist with advice on the local caves, watersports, nearby secret beaches and all things marine. I can tell you where to get the best fish and chips (or where to catch the best fish!) or chart a course for you to explore the local waterways on our pontoon boat (no license required) or cruiser (with license) for the day.
The “Island”
When was the last time you visited somewhere without cars? There are no cars on the "island", just fun little buggies. Please also bring the kids bikes or scooters so they can explore.
The front yard is the river where you can fish, ski, kayak. The immediate back yard is enclosed and comes with an BBQ and a Huge fire pit. On the other side of the backyard is the Popran National park where you can hike, walk down the path, get some firewood or just take in the nature. If the bush is a bit rough for you then walk on the grassed reserve in front of the house which is more of an extended garden than a reserve.
Visit our little local post office. It’s open 24/7 - you can even fish from the post office when the postman has gone.
For our adventurous guests who love discovering secret spots, take a hike to the spectacular local fresh water dam or hike to the top of the mountain for incredible views of the Hawkesbury River. You can even use the kayak or take the boat to historic Bar Island (5 minutes across the water) to explore church ruins and some gravestones or travel down the river to uncover the HMS Paramatta1 shipwreck. How often have you gone shopping or to restaurant by boat? Now is your opportunity, as there are no stores on the “island” itself. Convenience shops and restaurants are all a short boat ride away. I do need to say though that the idea is for you to really enjoy your time at the house - so make sure you come well stocked. Bring marshmallows for the firepit, enough beer for your fishing trip and some tasty treats for the BBQ.
I am always excited to welcome new guests to Bar Point and to our stunning home. Architecturally designed, it highlights the best of the natural environment whilst bringing all the modern conveniences you require for a great holiday.

Guest access
The house may as well be on an island as it can only be accessed from the water. The nearest car park is at Mooney Mooney - Deerubbin reserve
Mooney Mooney is under 1 hour from Sydney, on the F3, just after crossing the Hawkesbury River Bridge. Turn left and proceed approximately 200 meters to a roundabout, turn left and proceed to the car park or advertised “rest area”. The newly renovated car park has plenty of parking for your car.
The car park is aptly labelled " Rest Area’. This is where you leave your car, all your stresses and worries behind. From here on it’s just holiday time... But you still have a beautiful 12 min boat trip to get to the house.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A BOAT/JET SKI or KAYAK
No Sweat you can hire a water taxi or catch the postman ferry at AUD 20 per person (Mon to Friday) from Brooklyn at 10:00 daily
Hire a boat at local hire shops or mobile vendors servicing the area (from Aud 200-1000 per day)
Consider the VIP package(see below)

IF YOU HAVE A BOAT/JET SKI or KAYAK
At the Mooney Mooney car park there is newly built boat ramp and plenty of space to leave your car and trailer.
If your boat is not on a trailer, then no sweat as well. The Hawkesbury flows into the sea with its mouth at Palm Beach.. A great trip from anywhere including Sydney harbor and the Parramatta river.
The house has a 2/3 ownership of a private jetty and can easily accommodate up to a 7-meter boat. for more than 1 boat or larger than 7 meters please contact owner for arrangements

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A CAR OR A BOAT
Catch the train to the Hawkesbury river station and catch a water taxi or the postman ferry 20 meters from the station. Hire a boat at Brooklyn or get in touch with me re the VIP package

Interaction with guests
As much or as little as you want. House is yours for the period of hire and guests are welcome to call or SMS me for anything.

VIP Package:

Great riverside family house
Great spot to explore the river for a family plus a dog. Using the boat was awesome as was fishing off the wharf. The house was spacious for a family of 5 plus a dog.

Excellent location
We had an amazing time, we enjoyed the house boat and Jetty. David the host was very helpful and accommodating. Location was great for all of us to get away together. The house was a good fit for 8 adults and well appointed, it is a little old and in need of maintenance but this didn’t detract from the stay

About the host

Semi retired Worked and travelled in many countries around the world. Fell in love with Bar Point soon after emigrating to Australia and finally broke down and purchased in 2014 as a holiday home.

Why they chose this property

I had to rent out to assist with mortgage payments, and pretty soon found out that my dream holiday house was being rented out almost every week end. So short of an holiday house I bought the house next door If you get the opportunity to come over you will easily see why I gave up my professional job in the city and now enjoy living full time on Bar Point

What makes this property unique

60 meters to water
Private Jetty
Near historic Bar Island
No cars, clean air open fire places Only 1 hour from Sydney 30 minutes from Hornsby or Gosford.
Great open spaces. Reserve (or more like a garden) leading to water and a Nature reserve in the back
