We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Our hosts were very responsive and we liked the quiet setting. Plenty of room and very well stocked. Would recommend.
Stayed here for a bass tournament on the James River. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the amount of spiders/bugs in the house and it wasn’t very clean. Cool place to stay, remote and very well stocked in the kitchen.
Daughter's wedding at the venue next to this property
Property was remote but that was great for our stay. Everything was very clean and neat inside. I will say it smells a little musty at first but that goes away. Bruce was very gracious when we arrived. I would definitely stay here again if traveling to the area. Convenient to Williamsburg.
Beautiful property and wonderful hosts! Secluded setting on a quiet river. This is our second time staying here and will definitely be back! We have family in the area so great retreat for us to visit all our family in New Kent County.
The cottage was perfect to stay at for my son’s wedding. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed and location is so peaceful. I would love to stay there again.
We had a great time staying here its location was perfect for us going to Williamsburg and Yorktown. The cottage is in the woods but not too far from things to do and see. The cottage was clean and very welcoming as well as the hosts we didn’t really see them until the last day as we were leaving. Great people and cozy cottage with lots of room for us. The dock on the river was my girlfriend’s favorite park relaxing in the sun. We definitely recommend a stay here and we’ll be back when we’re in the area again
Wonderful cottage -- clean, well-stocked kitchen, nice back screened-in porch, comfortable bed. Very hospitable host. House is within a comfortable driving distance to golf, Williamsburg and Jamestown. Altogether a lovely 9 day stay.
We traveled through Williamsburg for two nights on our way to a beach vacation. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Everything was wonderful. The hosts were onsite and attentive and we had a great stay. Added bonus there was a remote pier on the property where our teens fished and swam. Very highly recommended this listing!
We found our stay at Myrlon Cottage to be perfect for us as we explored Jamestown Settlement, the American Revolution Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, and several wineries between Williamsburg and Richmond. Bruce was responsive to questions/concerns.
My wife and I spent the weekend of October 5th, 2024. The cottage had everything we needed and we had a good time.
While it might have some land to it, it's 20 yards from a major road. It was also very musty-- so much so that we opened the windows and wore our coats while eating dinner. I will pass on some suggestions to the owner about what to do.
It really was all we wanted for a weekend away from our normal lives.
If you're looking to get away from crowds, Myrlon Cottage is for you. Our drives to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Richmond were fairly easy. Well stocked, very quiet and private place located on the hosts property, nice dock on the river though the very short walk there is only for the sure footed. Hosts were responsive to our inquiries and periodically checked on us to make sure we had what we needed. Overall a good experience.
Once again my family met there for a family celebration, my mother's 89th birthday. The cottage was perfect for our needs and provided ample space for eating and celebrating. The fireplace was used constantly during our wet and cold stay and it made the room very cozy. highly recommend this house for anyone looking to get away or to have a family reunion. The house is well furnished and equipped and makes for a great destination. And the hosts are over the top.
My family and I went to spend some time in the Williamsburg VA area and visit the local amusement parks. This place about 25minutes North of Williamsburg was the perfect place to relax and unwind after the long days of dealing with lines and crowds at Busch Gardens etc. there is some lovely details in the cottage and amenities which put it above many other options for the price point. This rental may not be for everyone but if you want privacy and a nice quiet place to relax at night then you can’t go wrong. The cottage is beautifully updated and the owners very pleasant. Would stay again!
We visited with our daughters (4 and 8) and absolutely loved it! The house was clean and nicely furnished. It included little things that made our stay much easier (like laundry detergent, trash bags, and paper towels). The view at the dock was incredible (especially the sunset!) and was a short walk (which our kids had no trouble navigating). Bruce and Karen were very welcoming but gave us plenty of space. We spent the days in Williamsburg and Virginia Beach, but loved the peaceful house to come back to. We’d love to return!
It was my daughter's 49th birthday and her niece my granddaughter wanted bake her a cake, so we asked if they would have cake pans and a mixer, they said not to worry just come and have fun. When we got there new cake pans and a new mixer where waiting for us!!! As well as a very well stocked kitchen! We cooked a couple of meals and had everything we needed including a gas grill!! 5 🌟🤩 all the way!
Loved everything about the cottage, the internet was slow and even went out the last evening, but that is out of the landlord’s ability to correct. It was thoroughly explained upon check in, so we were prepared and understanding.
My only “complaint” is of a personal nature and that’s in regard to the temperature of the lighting. Please change to warm white led as the cool white was too intense for a cozy feel. There were some incandescent lights and I loved the blue bulb in my bedroom!
Highly recommend this one and will book again when in the area next!
Fantastic house! The house is well maintained with all the amenities you could think of. Everything is very nicely renovated and offers an excellent home for a little getaway.
The property is away from any city or town which we were looking for. Stairs down a little ravine or a small country road lead you down to a little dock and small shoreline. Great for kids to explore and put on their rain boats to truck through the mud and sand.
Two helpful insider tips. 1) It was a little unclear how close the owners home is to the guest house from the listing. Yes, the owners home is directly across and in eye sight from the guest house which we didn't mind at all. The owners are incredibly kind and helpful during our stay. And 2) the guest house name in the property description is "Myrlon Cottage", which is literally the name you have to look for on small signs on the side of the road to know where to turn. The car/phone GPS won't pickup the actual street so it's important to look for the name of the cottage to know where to exactly turn.
We loved our stay and are already looking forward to coming back in the spring. You won't regret staying here at all, an awesome gem of a house on VRBO and 100% worth the trip!
We absolutely loved our stay at this house. Nice little cottage with tons of room (especially for only two!). Fully furnished, nicely decorated, and snuggled back into a wooded area near the Pamunkey River. Thanks to Bruce and Karen for a restful and convenient stay. Two thumbs up!!!
