About this property

River front retreat in a quiet court only walking distance from cafes and Pub

Lovingly renovated cosy 2 bedroom 1 bathroom retreat ( please note - we have just redone bathroom completely for 2023) with full private Ovens river frontage at the end of a quiet court yet only 250 m away from Rail Trail Café, Porepunkah Pub and Punka Pantry at the base of majestic Mount Buffalo.

Enjoy your time in the light open plan living / kitchen area on our comfy couch or read a book on the Veranda or on a bench overlooking the river.
The expansive lawn out the back is a perfect place for kicking a footy with the kids or to play a game of Finksa.

Enjoy a glass of wine on the outdoor setting listening to the rippling sound of our own little creek cascading down to the river.
Or sit and enjoy your afternoon tea in the established garden at the front with stunning autumn colours that attracts a lot of native birds like Crimson Rosellas , King Parrots, Kookaburras etc.

In Winter enjoy the cosy open fire (wood provided) and stay warm in bed with an electric blanket (QS bed only). And there is always the reverse cycle aircon to heat up living area quickly and bar heaters are also supplied.

The entire property is for your own use and is on a 1560 m2 block

There is something to do for everyone in the beautiful High Country:

- swimming in the river or in some of the nearby water holes (Sinclair near Punka airfield)
- the area is a paradise for cyclists : we are only 200 m for the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail or the Mountain Bike park in Bright is only 9km away. There is also great MTB trails up in Falls Creek.
For road cycling its hard to decide what mountain to tackle first - Mt Buffalo just at our doorstep, Falls Creek over Tawonga Gap or Mt Hotham.
- in Winter choose to ski at Falls Creek / Hotham which is about 1 hr away or take the kids tobogganing / snow play up to Mount Buffalo
- If hiking if more your style there is endless opportunities at Mount Buffalo with waterfalls, Lake, rock boulders etc or in Alpine National Park with Mt Feathertop to name only a few
- Bright 18 hole country Golf Club is only over 1km away
- There is lots of great shops and cafes/ restaurants in Bright if you enjoy a browse.

Tranquil retreat

We were very fortunate to spend 2 weeks at this beautiful property and could have stayed a lot longer!! Super clean and had all the comforts and everyday essentials for a relaxing getaway. Set on a stunning, spacious property we enjoyed our time outdoors as much as we did indoors. The owners are exceptional and made our stay hassle free and truly memorable! Great little spot

Excellent location - easy to get to places like Bright and Mt Buffalo. Nice and private accommodation with pretty scenery nearby. Short walk to shops and cafes. The beds, however, were not very comfortable - they were firm but quite hard. The place was also very dusty in some spots like on top of the fridge or behind the TV cabinet. The cleaners need to be more thorough to make sure there's no dust floating around to create issues for people, especially those with respiratory issues.

Great family weekend

Everything you could possibly need in a lovely bush setting. Great communication from hosts. It’s obvious much love and consideration has gone into this property. Only feedback is overall cleanliness. The floors specifically needed a really good vac/ mop. Only really an issue with little ones playing on the floor! Overall however a great property. Thanks for having us :)

Fireplace with no wood

A fireplace without suitable kindling and smaller start up logs is useless. No ambiance. No warmth. Two nights booked . There should be two nights worth of wood with all the fixings to get a fire going.

Perfect Alpine road retreat

We loved staying at Judith's home in Porepunkah, very cozy and well appointed. Great location for heading out to Beechworth and Bright environs for day trips and biking. Judith is an amazing host!

Perfect!

Riverfront Retreat is true to its name. The location is excellent, perfect as a base for exploring the region and it is certainly a retreat; peaceful, comfortable, private and quiet. We were impressed with the presentation of the property; it was clean, well organised and generously stocked. The host, Judith, was great to communicate with; welcoming and helpful. A lovely property right on the river

We always loved the High Country and the endless outdoor activities the area has to offer - from skiing , mountain biking , hiking and paragliding...not to mention all the wineries and it is heaven for us foodies as well.

Why they chose this property

We owned a successful holiday rental in Wandiligong (6 km from Bright the other way)
and then had the opportunity to buy this property with full river frontage and near Pub and cafes from our friend ....especially our teenage kids love the river.
