About this property
IN MONTFERRER NOT ARLES! FARMHOUSE STUDIO APPARTEMENT WITH A VIEW TO LIVE FOR !
Our accommodation is situated directly underneath the main Catalan farmhouse where we ourselves live on a south facing terrace, giving stunning vistas across the mountains to Spain on left and the village of Montferrer perched above, right. The studio is a small but delightful self contained flatlet, comprising an attractive and comfortable sitting/dining room with doors opening onto terrace, an adjoining fully equipped kitchenette and bathroom with shower. Stairs from sitting room lead to cosy mezzanine with double bed. Outside there's a private terrace with steps leading to private garden area. BBQ and garden furniture provided. Plenty storage utility room.
Montferrer is a tiny village mountain in Catalunia, 7kms above the Tech valley. The area boasts cherries, apricots, peaches, good wines, cheese and plenty seafood on the coast which is approx 45mins away. The village has its own cafe, bread depot and restaurant .Free swimming pool open July and August. Nearby golf course.
Ideal for hikers and bikers .Many wonderful opportunities for long or short walks from the doorstep
Nearby Ceret has lovely regional market every Saturday morning and Figueres also has a huge bustling market on Tues, Thurs and Saturdays.
We are situated 4 kms down the hill away from the famous Gorges de la Fou purported to be the narrowest Gorge at least in Europe.Daily visits from April until October.
An hours drive away is the beautiful and extensive bird sanctuary of St Pere Pescador.A wonderful place to visit extending to the coast at Roses--lovely picnic areas and hiking for as many kilometres (or not!) as the mood takes you.
At Perpignan there is much summer entertainment including a streeet music festival every Thursday evening, cinemas with several 'version original' movies as well as French ones and numerous interesting and diverse restaurants. There are two theatres and an international Photojournal exhibition every September.
We have our own gold medal winning cheese producer in the village .Also a thriving cafe which sells bread and croissants and a small selection of groceries. Our restaurant is run by Micheline and Serge who are excellent chefs and produce great food prepared with love and care using only fresh and locally sourced produce.
The nearby lake at St Jean Pla de Corts provides a lovely setting for summer picnics and has a restaurant and a cafe.It also has pedaloes and canoes for hire, plus a very exciting high tree walk with several levels of difficulty to choose from. The lake restaurant also hosts themed musical evenings once a week.
There is a small daily market at Amelie les Bains (15 mins away) and a much larger one on Thursdays. In the small market place, an oyster stall functions twice a week so one can purchase a delicious plate of opened oysters or mussels and then sit enjoying them in the pretty square with a glass of white wine from one of the three bars surrounding the square.
The nearby coast provides a wealth of places to visit either this side of the border or in Spain . Collioure is renowned for it beauty and next to it is Port Vendres (a favourite haunt of Rene Macintosh --you can see the spots he painted when you stroll around the town ).Port Vendres has some lovely eating places overlooking the Port and the owner will be happy to advise.
This location is unbeatable for those who like to walk.An enormous choice of mountain or coastal paths.
