About this property

Secluded cabin in the mountains

Our secluded two story mountain home is private, on 6 acres of wooded land. It backs up to the Nantahala forest and includes a small creek. At a 3500 foot elevation, (4 wheel drive is not necessary) you will love those cool mountain mornings. Relax on our large wooden deck or enjoy a fire in the wood burning fireplace or outside fire pit. At 2000 square feet, it is spacious enough to accommodate the whole family. Watch for the wild turkeys, hummingbirds, deer, bears and coyotes.

There are 2 large king bedrooms and another large bedroom with 2 double beds. Two families traveling together can both enjoy their own 'master bedroom'. You have a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, living room with stone fireplace, dining room and loft. Beautiful tongue and groove walls and ceilings make you feel that you are really in the mountains.

Discover Franklin, a picturesque village in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Appalachian Trail is here as are breweries, outfitters, shops and restaurants. Franklin is known as the gem mining capital of the world. Panning for gems is a popular pastime. The Whistle Stop mall is a great source for antiques. Drive through the Cullasaja Gorge to the lovely town of Highlands. Stop and walk to many waterfalls on your way. Hiking, white water rafting, kayaking, tubing, canoeing and zip lining are short destinations that many love. The Biltmore House in the cultural city of Asheville is only about an hour and a half drive.

Welcome to the mountains!

Great house
Very peaceful, secluded and beautiful! Accommodated 4 adults easily. The house had everything we needed to cook meals, play games and NAP!! Great DVD selection and having Netflix was a plus! Beds were comfortable, rooms were very neat and uncluttered We had no trouble navigating the driveway. The detailed hand drawn map was very helpful Due to the weather, we did not get to use the fire pit. the fire pit area is a great space approximate to the house. Lighting was tricky, trying to figure out which switch turned on which light. Would have loved chairs on main deck . Overall, I would highly recommend this house and hope to return soon!!!

Beautiful cabin
Absolutely a beautiful home! We were taken by surprise of the dirt rock road to get up the mountain to the home given some of us were on motorcycles but once we got the hang of it we Absolutely enjoyed the small windy road to get up there we had fun for sure. The driveway is steep but take it slow and steady and it's definitely easy to master it. And the view going up and down is breathtaking. The cabin is very spacious and well maintained we did not want to leave hahahaha. It's very peaceful at night besides all the little critters talking to each other but that's mountain life and we loved it! The master bedroom was ours and so spacious. The beds were extremely comfortable. As a woman I loved the kitchen had plenty of room too cook for everyone😁 upstairs bathroom has separate tub and shower and both very spacious as well. I highly recommend this home the pictures do not do it justice much more gorgeous in person we will definitely be renting again whenever we go back up that way for vacation again❤️

Sweet mountain air
Our family had a great time at Hummingbird Hill. The house is really beautiful and had everything we needed for a relaxing mountain getaway. It's clean and spacious, with big bedrooms, a beautiful fireplace, a huge deck in front (and two smaller decks as well). The kitchen is fully stocked, which made it easy for us to prepare meals with our two teenage boys. The hosts really seem to have thought of everything their guests could need in order to relax and unwind. If you're looking for a remote getaway in the mountains, this is a really special place. In terms of activities, the house is within driving distance of some incredible hikes and attractions. We hiked Whiteside Mountain and Black Rock Mountain, went Ziplining in Highlands, and even made the 90-minute drive to Asheville a few times during our stay to watch minor league baseball and visit the Biltmore Estate. We also spent time in Franklin, walking the Greenway, picnicking at Parker Meadows, and sampling some local restaurants (we really liked Ms Lois' and Haywood Smokehouse). If you want a quiet, remote getaway in a beautiful home surrounded by breathtaking views, this is a perfect spot. If, on the other hand, you want to do a ton of activities AND don't want to drive a lot, you may want to consider something less remote. For us, this was the perfect balance - a quiet and secluded home base with access to several incredible hikes and other attractions.

About the host

We had this home built when our two boys were young. It gave us the opportunity to stay close as a family. Coming from South Florida, we wanted our children to see the season changes, and snow. They were able to learn to ski and snowboard and hike in the beautiful mountains. Our boys have families of their own now, and they still love to spend time at our home in the mountains. One of them got married on the property. There is a small photo of the wedding in the house.

Why they chose this property

We started vacationing in North Carolina in the early 1990's and loved it. We rented vacation homes and dreamed of having our own that we could make comfortable for our family. The proximity to our home in South Florida allows us to drive in one day.

What makes this property unique

We love this property for the feeling of getting away from it all. Sitting on the deck makes us feel like we are in a treehouse. It's quiet and at night the stars are so close and bright.
