About this property

The Van Zandt Raven in the Mt Baker foothills

The Raven is a beautiful 1100 ft. sq. custom apt. above our garage. There are two bedrooms, each with a comfortable queen bed. There is one bathroom with a 6 ft. tub and shower with a slate surround. The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher. There is plenty of parking and two stairways to The Raven. The main entrance is on the east side of the building while the west side has stairs from the deck. The deck is very private and has a great forest view. The Raven is a very tasteful and comfortable apt. with bamboo floors and birch trim milled from trees right here on our property. There is a TV with a DVD player. The heat is quiet, cozy and hypoallergenic radiant floor heat. There are lovely southern views of our valley from the living room and kitchen windows.
The Raven is NOT a party vacation rental. The only people allowed, unless by special approval, are those who booked the Raven. We do not allow smoking anywhere on the property and do not allow pets. Money from the damage deposit can also be used if a guest does not clean the Raven to a satisfactory condition (the expectation is clearly defined in the welcome note guests receive when arriving)
The Raven is located on a 45 acre paradise located on a quiet country road about halfway from the bustling small city of Bellingham and the world renowned Mt. Baker Ski Area and North Cascades National Park. Hiking abounds in the summer and fall with epic skiing in the winter months. Starting in later November and going thru January is the returning of the salmon with it lots of bald eagles nearby. It's only a five minute drive from the Raven to spectacular eagle viewing. Also in early winter you can hear great horned owls hooting while they start their mating season. Spring and summer bring many a bird and a literal cacophony of frogs in our wetlands. If you feel like a walk in the woods we have a trail thru our truly majestic forest with mature cedar, Douglas fir, hemlock, big leaf maple, birch, and red alder. Summertime is beyond description here in the Southfork valley with sun and the river to swim in. Because we live on a quiet country road with little traffic a stroll down it is a relaxing way to start or end your day and you might even meet some of our neighbors who regular;y walk, run or bike. Across the valley is a seasonal waterfall the is quite spectacular. Come join us for a country respite!

The location and housing were great.
Very comfortable and quiet. The only thing that was confusions was what thought was a conformation e-mail about the key and entry from Vrbo was actually something else. I had to call to get the information about how to get into the house. It all was fine in the end. I was just expecting a more clear communication.

A home away from home
The Van Zandt Raven was the highlight accommodation of our trip through the Pacific Northwest. I don't think we would have changed anything, even if we could. It was easy to find, very (very) spacious, clean, well equipped (especially kitchen supplies and utensils), isolated/quiet, and just cozy in general. We barely used the place because we were always out and about, but boy were we glad to return to it after a long day of hiking. The only downside for us was that it was slightly too far from the Mount Baker area and its various hiking trails, but this isn't anything we didn't already know, it just hit a little harder than expected after a long day. Apart from this, as we told Eric in person, it was definitely our best accommodation. We would highly recommend it.
