Quiet Getaway

This sweet home is a great getaway if you want some peace and quiet. Located on the water, we enjoyed time with family. About an hour from Bar Harbor, but there are so many other places to hike nearby.

Great Maine experience

The property manager was very responsive to my email inquiries during our stay. The house was a perfect place for our family to retire to after our daily outings to Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Family together time

How can you get your adult children together with separate hotel rooms. The only downfall to this house was the extra drive back after a hard day of hiking. The serenity of the house location was worth the trip. The open concept gave us plenty of moving room and cooking together. The firepit was well used during our trip, great relaxing time around the fire.

Beautiful Location

This is a great home in a beautiful location! It was clean with ample room for a party of six (like ours). The huge back deck provided a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the bay (when the tide was in). But future renters should know this: 1. This place is 1.25 hours from popular locations like Bar Harbor. We spent a lot of time in the car. 2. The host provided a 'Starter Kit' such as 2 dishwasher soap pacs, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, small bar soaps, and trash bags. However, that 'Starter Kit' was used up within a couple days. If you have a group of more than 2 people, be prepared to buy more of these items. Also, be prepared to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, body and hand soap, and a hairdryer. If you like to cook, you will need to buy your own spices and fixings. I do want to note that the host provided cooking utensils and lots of plates, bowls, silverware, etc. which was great! 3. We would have liked our host to have been more communicative throughout this VRBO process. Unfortunately, we had to call VRBO at the actual check-in time in order to connect with our host for the instructions for entering the house. I did appreciate that our host had the lights on when we arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review Peter. We enjoyed having you stay with us. You are correct Bar Harbor is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away depending on traffic. Mount Desert Island and the first stop in Acadia is 45, and Acadia at Schoodic Point is 20 minutes. As for the starter kit, we have stayed at many places that provided simple toilet paper and a trash bag. We are not a hotel, out starter kit is just to get guests going. You are correct, we were missing the hair dryer and have since purchased one, thanks for the heads up! We apologize for the miss communication on the day of your arrival. My wife didn't hit 'send' on the info so I was happy to provide it to you before you arrived. We have this property listed on Airbnb and we have had 5 stars in all reviews. I am sorry we were missing somethings that you would have liked to have had. Again thanks for staying with us and your suggestions.

A little too new/ no waterfront/ not worth $

Lovely new modular home on a nice property but not waterfront-just muddy low tide. The private island is also misleading; there was another home directly through the trees next door. The house itself is well decorated and comfortable but needs some rugs, curtains and a table outside for dinners. For this much money, I would have appreciated the generosity of extra propane tanks in case of running out, and plenty of the necessities like detergent and dish soap. There was only 2 of us so we were fine, but 2 pods of dishwasher detergent was pretty meager.. I tried to get info ahead of time about what to expect but was told we would not get that info until the day of check in. Hard to plan in that case. Stores are small convenience types and not close by. There is a fire pit which was nice- the stars here are spectacular. It is really quite a hike to get to Acadia so if that is your destination- don't stay here. If you want a really quiet new-home feel kind of place to hang out and play games with a big family- this would be perfect.

Hey Noelle, we really enjoy having you. We sorry to see you review. I would like to address things in the order you wrote them. First you were water front. In Maine we have 10-12 foot tides, so things change, hence the ‘mud’. Private island is not misleading as this is a private island and a private road. No where did it state it was the only house. The grill was a generous bonus, most rentals charge $100+ for one. With that we have it so guests fill as needed. Again most rentals don’t offer a kit to get you started with your stay. Hand soap, dish soap, dish pods, laundry detergent, extra trash bags, cloth and sponge are things we offer as a way to help you get started with your stay. The only info we don’t offer before hand are extract directions and code to enter home, only for the safety of current guests. You booked in rural Maine, so a store with all your needs, only 10 minutes away, is pretty amazing! Like stated in the title, the house is 45 minutes to Acadia National Park, with Acadia at Schoodic point only 20 minutes away. Maybe you went long way. All in all the map shows where the house is location prior to booking. Sorry it wasn’t what you were expecting.
